It’s been quite some time since we last saw Line of Duty (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a62947342/line-of-duty-season-7-release-date-cast/)’s Dunbar as police consultant Alex Ridley on our screens, with season one coming to an end two years ago.

But Ridley and co are back and the second instalment of the hit crime drama (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/g63850895/best-new-crime-dramas-uk/) sounds even more riveting than the first.

This time around, Ridley and DI Carol Farman (played by The Fall’s Bronagh Waugh) are tasked with getting to the bottom of a whole new slate of mysteries, with Ridley facing his most formidable challenges yet.

From shootings to disappearances and even a jewellery heist, retired detective Ridley certainly has his work cut out for him this season.

Here’s everything we know about Ridleyseason two.
Ridley season two: Plot
ITV’s synopsis reads: “In series two of ITV’s detective drama, Ridley, Adrian Dunbar returns to the title role to solve more crimes in the north of England.
“The retired detective turned police consultant resumes his partnership with former protégée, DI Carol Farman, who is now in charge of investigations. [In season two] John Michie joins the cast as Harry Bentham, a likeable and debonair self-made member of the jewellery trade who Ridley vies with for Annie’s attention…”

The broadcaster has also provided fans with an insight into the first episode, revealing: “In the first episode, Ridley starts to investigate when a jewellery heist turns violent, and the thieves take off with their stolen loot. After an interested party is killed in broad daylight, Ridley and Carol have a race against time to discover the identity of the criminal mastermind behind the whole operation. Will the team be able to bring them to justice before more blood is spilled?”
Ridley season two: Cast
• Adrian Dunbar as Alex Ridley
• Bronagh Waugh as DI Carol Farman
• Terence Maynard as Goodwin
• Georgie Glen as Dr Wendy Newstone
• George Bukhari as DC Darren Lakhan
• Bhavna Limbachia as Geri Farman
• Aidan McArdle as Michael Flannery
• Julie Graham as Annie Marling
• Tareq Al Jeddal as Jack Farman

Thank you. I can’t remember what I thought of series 1.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/08/2025 22:30

I think we all enjoyed the show but said his singing was dire 😂

Strange because Dunbar is a musician and fronts his own band. He was in the musical Kiss Me Kate. Anyway will be watching.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2025 23:10

It might have been the soulful or soulless music he played

The singing was just cringe in the extreme. It's not that he can't sing, it was more , why is he doing it?
I'll be watching though, so thanks for the heads up @Blondeshavemorefun

KillingEvesbestmate · 10/08/2025 15:53

Is anyone else hoping Ridley is going to get with his co bar owner? (Julie graham)

NewAgeNewMe · 10/08/2025 19:57

Watched S2 ep1 earlier.

BestIsWest · 10/08/2025 21:23

I’m just aghast at the way he pronounced ‘database’. I’ve never heard it pronounced like that in the UK. And I’ve heard it said a lot.

It's more like Jane MacDonald singing at the end of every cruise show. The obligatory show piece rather than a natural fit.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 10/08/2025 22:09

The singing tonight was dreadful. And then at the end when he was back at the bar again I thought he was going to sing again! Thankfully not.

Clawdy · 10/08/2025 22:45

Will be watching, tonight's was OK. As if Tash would've left her phone anywhere near that boyfriend though!

He needs to not sing. Cringe making.

moto748e · 10/08/2025 23:27

That was all a bit dull really, I thought. There were no great surprises in a fairly mundane story. The polis seem to give Ridley an unfeasible amount of latitiude.

BellaPommefritio · 11/08/2025 07:55

The singing makes me feel like I'm watching something lame like New Tricks aimed at the 8.00 BBC audience. We say exactly the same re Jane Macdonald whenever it's shoehorned in, and last night's was particularly awful- started like a bad version of Richard Hawley then morphed into rock power ballad.

Clawdy · 11/08/2025 08:13

Remember Shayne Ward singing at the end of Good Ship Murder episodes? That was more of a fun series though, and Shayne was a good singer!

Yes re the infeasible amount of latitude. Why on earth do the Police need a ‘consultant’. The Police do sometimes employ ex detectives as investigators but they certainly don’t employ ex Police as consultants telling them how to do their job. Several embarrassing moments with the supposed DI being surprised by some of his suggestions which were fairly mundane. I kept thinking if she hadn’t thought of that herself then she shouldn’t have been a DI. Also him as a civvy speaking to an undercover Police Officer? I was confused at first and thought she was an ex informant of his as that was the only reason I could see him speaking to her in that capacity.

moto748e · 12/08/2025 10:27

Yes, agree with all of that. Like you, I assumed she was an informant at first.

butterpuffed · 14/08/2025 15:39

Just caught up with this . Enjoyed it apart from the singing . Guess he has something in his contract saying he'll only do the series if they agree to him singing. 🤐

My live TV signal went weird the other night and I ended up going onto ITV X and finding all of this series, so watched tonight's. I thought it was better than last week's - although no improvement to the singing, I'm afraid!

NewAgeNewMe · 17/08/2025 18:27

Watched on ITV X yesterday, as family over this evening.
