Ridley fans rejoice! The Adrian Dunbar fronted show will finally return for its second season in a matter of days, premiering on ITV on 10 August.

Some loved this. Some not

This is the one where he sang at the end of every episode

It’s been quite some time since we last saw Line of Duty (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a62947342/line-of-duty-season-7-release-date-cast/)’s Dunbar as police consultant Alex Ridley on our screens, with season one coming to an end two years ago.

But Ridley and co are back and the second instalment of the hit crime drama (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/g63850895/best-new-crime-dramas-uk/) sounds even more riveting than the first.

This time around, Ridley and DI Carol Farman (played by The Fall’s Bronagh Waugh) are tasked with getting to the bottom of a whole new slate of mysteries, with Ridley facing his most formidable challenges yet.

From shootings to disappearances and even a jewellery heist, retired detective Ridley certainly has his work cut out for him this season.

Here’s everything we know about Ridleyseason two.
Ridley season two: Plot
ITV’s synopsis reads: “In series two of ITV’s detective drama, Ridley, Adrian Dunbar returns to the title role to solve more crimes in the north of England.
“The retired detective turned police consultant resumes his partnership with former protégée, DI Carol Farman, who is now in charge of investigations. [In season two] John Michie joins the cast as Harry Bentham, a likeable and debonair self-made member of the jewellery trade who Ridley vies with for Annie’s attention…”

The broadcaster has also provided fans with an insight into the first episode, revealing: “In the first episode, Ridley starts to investigate when a jewellery heist turns violent, and the thieves take off with their stolen loot. After an interested party is killed in broad daylight, Ridley and Carol have a race against time to discover the identity of the criminal mastermind behind the whole operation. Will the team be able to bring them to justice before more blood is spilled?”
Ridley season two: Cast
• Adrian Dunbar as Alex Ridley
• Bronagh Waugh as DI Carol Farman
• Terence Maynard as Goodwin
• Georgie Glen as Dr Wendy Newstone
• George Bukhari as DC Darren Lakhan
• Bhavna Limbachia as Geri Farman
• Aidan McArdle as Michael Flannery
• Julie Graham as Annie Marling
• Tareq Al Jeddal as Jack Farman

Just started to watch tonight's. Bloody hate the singing, puts me right off watching the whole thing. Thank heavens for fast forward!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/08/2025 20:37

Seems the singing isn’t appreciated again same as wasn’t in s1 😂

Shoe-horning the singing into each episode comes across as rather self-indulgent IMO, like it’s some kind of vanity project. I assume AD is a producer and that’s why it’s there?

moto748e · 17/08/2025 21:19

50 odd minutes in, and I'm thinking, looks like Jean really is a crap detective if she hasn't realised how shifty her fella is!

ETA: typo

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/08/2025 00:57

Reading recaps they’ve joined 2 episodes per viewing

so 2 is actually 2nd part of last week Jewellery theft

E1 part 2

So tonight’s is 3&4 under recaps

shame they didn’t leave it for 8 x 1 hr as my concentration wanes after an hour of a programme

Also, the charmless Andy seemed a very implausible Lothario! 😀

Clawdy · 18/08/2025 08:09

He certainly did! Can't see many women falling for him.

BestIsWest · 18/08/2025 08:28

I thought this one was better but we agree that two hours is too long.
I love Elizabeth Berrington as an actress. I hope we see more of her.

butterpuffed · 18/08/2025 08:49

This could have been done in an hour . The last 30 minutes was wasted on Jean, as it wasn't the main story at all.

Wondering if she's going to be a regular member , am hoping not but think that may be why she was brought in ,

DH turned the TV over at the ad break 20 minutes before the end because he assumed it had finished.

Better, yes, but still followed the template of gradually getting dafter and dafter. Is Ridley now looking to set himself up with a choice of two women?

BuntyBeaufort · 18/08/2025 13:01

I had high hopes of this, but having seen both episodes of this series I won’t bother again.
The self-indulgence of Adrian Dunbar’s lousy singing sets my teeth on edge. The plot was implausible (what woman on earth would have an affair dreary Andy), and if there’s a troubled teenager involved they’re almost always guilty.
Must do better.

Clawdy · 18/08/2025 13:03

Some quite good twists last night though. And I did quite like him singing Wild Mountain Thyme!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/08/2025 19:07

@Clawdy you may be the only lover of his singing

LOL at the singing references! Whoever thought it would be a good idea? It just makes us think of the Little Britain sketch of Dennis Waterman asking if he can sing the theme tune.

It's not awful, good cast, but there are so many silly and weak plot devices. As PPs have mentioned, the consulting detective schtick is absurd.

The plot in this series is better than series 1 I think.

moto748e · 18/08/2025 23:34

I can't remember the story arc. Is Julie Graham his ex-wife?

Yes love her
didn’t love the creep of the man she was with

was it her husband or just new partner

he was horrible to her daughter and a right controlling man
