Ridley fans rejoice! The Adrian Dunbar fronted show will finally return for its second season in a matter of days, premiering on ITV on 10 August.

Some loved this. Some not

This is the one where he sang at the end of every episode

It’s been quite some time since we last saw Line of Duty (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a62947342/line-of-duty-season-7-release-date-cast/)’s Dunbar as police consultant Alex Ridley on our screens, with season one coming to an end two years ago.

But Ridley and co are back and the second instalment of the hit crime drama (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/g63850895/best-new-crime-dramas-uk/) sounds even more riveting than the first.

This time around, Ridley and DI Carol Farman (played by The Fall’s Bronagh Waugh) are tasked with getting to the bottom of a whole new slate of mysteries, with Ridley facing his most formidable challenges yet.

From shootings to disappearances and even a jewellery heist, retired detective Ridley certainly has his work cut out for him this season.

Here’s everything we know about Ridleyseason two.
Ridley season two: Plot
ITV’s synopsis reads: “In series two of ITV’s detective drama, Ridley, Adrian Dunbar returns to the title role to solve more crimes in the north of England.
“The retired detective turned police consultant resumes his partnership with former protégée, DI Carol Farman, who is now in charge of investigations. [In season two] John Michie joins the cast as Harry Bentham, a likeable and debonair self-made member of the jewellery trade who Ridley vies with for Annie’s attention…”

The broadcaster has also provided fans with an insight into the first episode, revealing: “In the first episode, Ridley starts to investigate when a jewellery heist turns violent, and the thieves take off with their stolen loot. After an interested party is killed in broad daylight, Ridley and Carol have a race against time to discover the identity of the criminal mastermind behind the whole operation. Will the team be able to bring them to justice before more blood is spilled?”
Ridley season two: Cast
• Adrian Dunbar as Alex Ridley
• Bronagh Waugh as DI Carol Farman
• Terence Maynard as Goodwin
• Georgie Glen as Dr Wendy Newstone
• George Bukhari as DC Darren Lakhan
• Bhavna Limbachia as Geri Farman
• Aidan McArdle as Michael Flannery
• Julie Graham as Annie Marling
• Tareq Al Jeddal as Jack Farman

I'm still watching, and half-wondering why I'm bothering, it really isn't that good. Or that funny.

Clawdy · 25/08/2025 08:19

Still watching, still rather enjoying it. Another episode tonight, final one.

butterpuffed · 25/08/2025 18:14

I don't mind the stories but the singing is still annoying me . Have to clench my teeth while it's on as slow old fashioned jazz songs don't go with modern day drama !😅

Oh, it's on again tonight , just saw the post above .

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2025 18:15

Yes last one or tech 2 tonight

Well that was a bleak tale! If only they did more of that Misfits-style litter-picking in real life; we do do with it round here! It struck me that there wasn't really much sense of place, other than Oop North somewhere. I spent most of the programme thinking it was set in Yorkshire, but it was actually set in Lancashire, but either way, there weren't really any Lancastrian or Yorkshire accents that I noticed.

butterpuffed · 26/08/2025 09:10

This one was better ,and it was easy to guess the main character [can't remember her name] hadn't been murdered as the victim is normally found at the beginning !

I didn't get the point of the copper asking Ridley to lend him £5k when it was the last one of the series, so nothing more came of it. Perhaps it'll be explained in the next series , but that seems a bit silly as he's not a main character , and most of us will have forgotten [well, me!] about it .

I assumed it was to show he had a debt problem which seems to stem from a gambling addiction. I suspect it’s paving the way for a bent cop scenario where he provides information to a criminal for cash.

moto748e · 26/08/2025 11:59

Thought the same, altough it was pretty daft of Ridley to just hand the money over. In fact, probably the 'right' thing to do would have been to snitch on him and tell Carole. Ridley knew he was in debt. How does he think that debt is going to serviced?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/08/2025 12:12

He’s a gambler so will lose the £5k

i felt sorry for the woman as all down to mh and her childhood /mum

Tara was appalling. She cheated on her husband, was prepared to see an innocent (ish) man sent down for a murder he didn't do, abandoned her own son...

Hardly Mother of the Year.

Ah, that makes sense . Ridley's not helping by giving him the money.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/08/2025 13:30

He was watching a horse race in the station on his phone. Assume it lost

I’m a bit behind, I have just finished Episode 1 Series2 so will read the whole thread when the series finishes on Virgin Media One in Ireland.
My goodness that heartless mother killing her own son 😮
I thought Liam was easy on the eye.
i’m with you all re the singing. 😂
I hate jazz.

mum2jakie · 06/09/2025 19:50

Watching first episode - don't think i can be bothered to watch two hours of this 😕

moto748e · 06/09/2025 20:10

Agree it's slooow. Even if you've recorded it, and FF through the ads, it's still slow.
