Anyone planning on watching this?

Rob Brydon hosts as contestants are driven around Europe in a blacked out bus, trying to guess where they are. I’ve seen clips of the US Version, it might be good!

I’d love Daren to win too.

Briantheguitargod · 08/08/2025 09:16

i felt so sorry for Judith, they kept saying they would only share with the OG, then left her out. also poor Darren when he watches it back will realise they picked him because he doesn't seem a threat.
Darren or Judith to win for me.

Do tell us more 😁

Very boring in reality. We went up the mountain in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and at the top there are cafes etc. We got chatting to an American couple at the top and they recommended a restaurant up there. So we followed them and all had lunch together. It was then we realised we had gone into Austria. In fairness I don’t think you can get down the Austrian side.

Nick reminds me of a young Seb Coe.

Thank you. I couldn’t work out who it was.

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2025 11:51

Nick does look like a young Seb Coe.
The reason I like Daren is because he reminds of Harry Redknapp when he was in the jungle and loves his wife. He probably won’t win, but I hope he isn’t evicted by next week.

I just want to know what the "P" stands for! 😁

flightoftheconkers · 08/08/2025 12:16

the one that is closest to the centre

Not nit picking but isn't it closest to where the bus is? As in, they may be on the outskirts of the city. My DP is playing along on his phone and when he entered central Salzburg it said he was out by a fair few miles.

As for some of the contestants: Daren is lovable but doomed, Judith isn't sharp enough (nuclear scientist?!) atm but may wise up, Saskia needs to develop her poker face but is quite wily, Ashvin obviously doesn't take failure well and not too smart, Nick is on the ball. Not sure about Josh and Claire.

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2025 12:20

Jackie P ! Might be their surname or just a nickname or her previous maiden name surname or middle name initial ?
I can imagine Daren and Jackie P on goggle box a bit like the lovely couple who always hold hands.

bizzey · 08/08/2025 12:40

I wonder if they knew each other when they were much younger and hung out in a group before getting together and there were 2 Jackies in the group so she was always Jackie P ...and it stuck 🥰..

And yes Goggle box !

cakeorwine · 08/08/2025 12:50

So at the end, I presume that the 2 people could guess the exact town - but then it's who's closest to the bus?

There were lots of clues to Austria in the last show - and more clues to Salzburg. But they werejn't in Salzburg at the end. They were near Salzburg

TheFifthTellytubby · 08/08/2025 13:40

They were in Werfen, about 40 km south of Salzburg where Do-Re-Mi was shot. Hence the heavy emphasis on the film and that scene in particular towards the end.

TheFifthTellytubby · 08/08/2025 13:43

... and also the numerous clues with the name of the village earlier - obviously only helpful for anyone familiar with the area or Mastermind-level knowledge on the making of the film...🙄

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2025 14:22

I’d love to see Daren on other shows and meet Jackie too, I bet she is nice.
Id have probably got the sound of music clues as I was a bit obsessed with that film as a child ( and I don’t like musicals much , so goodness knows why , but I was only young )
Plus Rob’s brown suit was like the Von Trapp one he wears .
sad to see Chloe Anne go , she reminded me of Liz Hurley , I think it was her accent tbh

Indeed! I have been to Salzburg, and even been on a Sound of Music tour, but Werfen meant nothing to me…

Choux · 08/08/2025 15:27

Is the American version available to watch somewhere? Because these Brits don’t know that much about European geography and I imagine the Americans would know even less. I would like to watch it even if it is the same clues and challenges.

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 07/08/2025 22:07

Switzerland is in Schengen, though, so perhaps there aren’t checks

I travelled from France to Switzerland on a bus a couple of hours ago, no checks at all. Also did it by train recently, also no checks.

That’s my guess. I’ve got friends in their 50s known as First -Name Initial because originally there were two Steves, Julies or Sarahs.

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2025 16:17

Ha ha! A bit like ‘Japanese Margaret ‘ on Gavin and Stacey as she liked all things Japanese.

cakeorwine · 08/08/2025 18:36

Anyone placing bets for next week?

I am going for Verona. They should go over some nice passes in Austria and then get warmer in Italy.

Venice is a maybe...

TheFifthTellytubby · 08/08/2025 18:42

I'm thinking Venice - not sure any of this lot would make a connection between Shakespeare and Verona ... with the possible exception of Nick and/or ex-policewoman,

cakeorwine · 08/08/2025 18:47

Venice - would be gondolas, Leonardo, canals, masks,
Verona - Romeo and Juliet clues,

LidlAmaretto · 08/08/2025 19:58

TheFifthTellytubby · 08/08/2025 00:29

It might have just been a bad edit, but when the players were asked how many sets of antlers were on the wall at the castle, the next shot was of him in the camera chair claiming that he didn't understand the question! 😂

He said that a lot! I got the feeling Chloe Anne was too clever and was covoluting the questions too much but Ashvin was just a bit dopey. ( although Chloe-Anne was a historian who didn't know what country Henry Vii's wife, Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV was from!)

Piknik · 09/08/2025 00:24

Darren is like a cross between my BIL (taxi driver from SE London) and Danny Dyer's long lost older brother. He talks about Jackie P a bit how Harry Redknapp talked about Sandra when he was on I'm a Celebrity - it's Love but also Dependence. Cute and PERFECT for Gogglebox!

Ashvin, thus far, seems thick as pig shit.

Was sorry to see Chloe Ann go. I reckon Italy next.

Piknik · 09/08/2025 00:48

also, the VR goggles seem to have been completely abandoned

This episode gave a Traitor Vibes and I enjoyed that they were in a castle and off the bus, But I’m still not sure if it’s working…

Verona - Romeo and Juliet clues,

Venice would be hard logistically. I like the idea of Verona. Bologna might work- and then Dubrovnik and the Game of Thrones theme. I can’t think what would be themed for Slovenia (? White Horses?).

im guessing Greece and perhaps Olympia would be easy to theme.
