Anyone planning on watching this?

Rob Brydon hosts as contestants are driven around Europe in a blacked out bus, trying to guess where they are. I’ve seen clips of the US Version, it might be good!

I'm going for Verona.

And clues to Romeo and Juliet....

Switzerland is in Schengen, though, so perhaps there aren’t checks

That's true. I've been twice for day trips and they were extremely hot on questioning us but we were in cars both times. First time might have been pre-Schengen, tbh.

Choux · 07/08/2025 22:11

Two passports? Is that legal?

I know that on Race Across the World the contestants have two passports and the production team, use them to sort out visas and the like.

Oh, wow, interesting.

We actually drove into Switzerland not on the motorways and there were no border controls.

We didn't want to get the Swiss vignette for the motorways - as it was just a day trip to Geneva

KassandraOfSparta · 07/08/2025 22:13

they've already "done" switzerland though with the Matterhorn. they won't go back.

I’ve only ever been pre-Schengen and remember them being really hot on checks, so no idea what they are like now - presumably it’s less onerous!

Surprised because they make you pay road tax even if just a day trip.

Only if you use the motorways

We didn't use the motorways

LIZS · 07/08/2025 22:16

Iirc you only face border checks at the main road crossing points into Switzerland.

That’s what I wondered but it’s how they do it I understand.

Yes, you get your employer to write a letter supporting your requirement for a second passport, which i assume the BBC do for those on travel shows. I used to do a lot of travelling with my job and had two passports. I'd be overseas with one passport whilst the second was at whichever embassy getting a visa for my next trip.

cakeorwine · 07/08/2025 22:18

Can you imagine explaining who's in the coach at border control?

There's 10 people in there. But you can't come in as it's a game show and they don't know where they are...

SwedishEdith · 07/08/2025 22:19

Thinking about the first time we went, it felt like we were using small back roads but still got stopped and searched by two armed border guards. That was 1991. Quite scary at the time 😄

ChompandaGrazia · 07/08/2025 22:22

I once went from Germany to Austria by accident.

I did not know that. Thanks.

I spent several months in Switzerland in 1992/3 and we would drive often into France and also get the train there sometimes. I don’t recall ever being stopped by border control. I vaguely remember a sentry box on the road with someone in who could stop you if he chose to. In fact I am not sure I always had my passport on me as I wouldn’t always have known we would end up in France.

Or maybe I have a very bad memory!

Oh, that might have been what it was, now you describe it. Definitely wanted us to open the boot and they had a quick rummage.

I can't imagine Ashvin would have watched the Sound of Music but he seems to not know much despite how intelligent he claims to be.

It might have just been a bad edit, but when the players were asked how many sets of antlers were on the wall at the castle, the next shot was of him in the camera chair claiming that he didn't understand the question! 😂

TheFifthTellytubby · 08/08/2025 00:44

Choux · 07/08/2025 21:56

There was a book in one of the castle rooms with the word Werfen on it.

Turns out Destination X was actually Werfen, about 40 km south of Salzburg where the famous meadow scene was shot. So even a guess at Salzburg was still some distance away, but anyone guessing Vienna would obvs be a lot further. Chloe-Anne and Ashvin both guessed there, but she just happened to be further away. Can't believe she let herself get swayed like that!

bizzey · 08/08/2025 01:10

I am so rooting for Daren to win this !

CrewOfTheRevenge · 08/08/2025 07:03

Nick reminds me of a young Seb Coe.

Tourist29 · 08/08/2025 07:46

I was amazed that Ashvin is 23 - he could have had a role in Grease
