Thought I’d sound the KLAXON and round everyone up for some Strictly chat about possible/rumoured contestants. They usually start announcing soon!

Wow, what a great cast! Have actually heard of at least 12. I assume Stephen Fry won't make it very far because everyone will think he's clever and therefore a traitor.

Can’t wait for celeb traitors.

but it does make you wonder how have they got a much better calibre of celeb on Traitors?

is it a money thing, a I want to do challenges not learn how to do dance thing? Or maybe it’s a fresh new show and they want to be on it and it might be a flop and only last a season.

Well, Traitors has been a huge success/got Claude a BAFTA and - as it is new - hasn't got the has-been/Z-list connotations that some attach to Strictly.

They are all being paid 40k to participate, according to Marina Hyde.

The 100k prize will go to charity.

So 760K spent on celeb earnings
860K in total
Before you start the £££ of crew, food, hotel, Claude's wardrobe and other production costs.

Strictly, the blanket fee is 25K each then goes up in increments.

I'd do Traitors over Strictly if I were famous.
Less tabloid interest in personal life/marriage, curse etc Better thought of as not being seen to be on the way down/desperate to do reality.
Fun to shoot, as similar to an outward bounds/activity holiday and you work in teams.

I would imagine it is a combination of maybe time,location money and seeing traitors as a quiz/puzzle/intellectual thing so not beneath some people.

All very good points. Also think maybe as it’s prerecorded so apart from a bit of promoting, if you just want to slink off whilst it’s being aired for a month or so you can.

I just think it’s the buzz around Traitors that has provided a much better cast. Who doesn’t want to have a go?

A lot of very famous celebs admit to being Strictly fans. They might be happy to accept tickets for the VIP section of the audience but know the lack of kudos in doing the show isn't right for their particular career.

Then there's the fact that, compared to other celeb TV shows, Strictly is one of the least well-paid and yet requires the most time and skill, coupled with a nerve-wracking weekly live performance. It also means you will be splashed all over the papers; great for some types of celeb, not so much for others.

Then there's the fact that Strictly clashes with the prominent UK sports seasons, with panto season, with the time of year when soap stars and actors are recording their Christmas Specials, with the time of year when musicians and comedians are doing lucrative corporate Christmas gigs or promoting whatever it is they are flogging for the Christmas present market. It's basically the time of year when most celebs are at their most busy.

I still don't fathom the male to female ratio thing. It used to be said that Strictly struggled to sign up male contestants as women felt more comfortable about doing a dance show. Is it really the case that female celebs now worry the show is toxic? Do the producers no longer care about diversity when it comes to women? Is it a deliberate strategy to sign up more men? I think it's definitely harder for a woman to win over the public, due to the aforementioned assumption that men are the underdogs when it comes to dancing.

IMHO, the Strictly women winners have been of a far higher standard than the men.

As to your other points, I do agree that the show has lost the pull it once had

Many Christmas specials are filmed in June/ July
time. Lots of fake snow and wrapped up in woollens in a heatwave.

Soaps and ongoing dramas are recorded about six weeks in advance of broadcast, meaning the big Christmas storylines are recorded slap bang in the middle of Strictly. When Jennifer Gibney was on Strictly she said how impossible she found it to be rehearsing her routines and recording the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas and New Year's Specials.

Every year I think I’m not going to watch and then get sucked in:) this year I’ve got so many birthdays on a Saturday (friends turning the big 60) that I’m not sure I’ll be able to watch anyway!

Can I put in a request for the video from a training session (I think) with Shirley Ballas and a slightly overweight dancer who is superb? It’s a well known video, I’ve seen it here a few times already.

Well, now it's being reported that the producers have called in the police to investigate some nebulous matter on Strictly. Finally we get some justice for AustinWuzRobbed!

I have a friend who works in a behind the scenes TV role the earliest she has recorded a Christmas show so far is early April!

House of games wrapped filming of their Christmas specials back in June. And call the midwife film theirs in June/july too

If the police investigation is linked to the legal investigation re the drugs I guess it’s linked to drug dealing/supply source.

I mean taking drugs openly at work you have to ask questions.

Hello! So excited for strictly to start. I get so engrossed in it every year I just love it!
I was a little disappointed but the line up. Like many others keep saying… I just don’t really know any of them 🙈
Bur I don’t really think it matters! I always end up voting for my favourite professional anyway 😂
I really hope Nikita, Vito, Diane and Karen get good couples this year. Although V and D have smashed the last two years and not been overly active about it on their socials compared to others so I feel like they might get a dead wood partner!
