I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

I was 17, it was the summer after I'd started at sixth form college and I had a brilliant gang of friends. We all piled over to Roger's house to watch it, there was probably cider and Liebfraumilch, and then squashed into his folks' caravan for the night.

I was the same age, we wer at our mate Dave's house and kept sneaking out to smoke a joint when the boring acts were on!

Not sure Roxanne is a stadium-pleaser.

Toilet break time!

Sting did this so that everyone would be happy to see Phil Collins

😁

HauntedBungalow · 12/07/2025 19:35

See what I mean about people pretending to like jazz?

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 19:35

Amazing that they could get Phil from UK to Philadelphia via Concorde! Now they'd just do a Zoom call!

Must admit found Sade boring then and still do now - just brought the washing in for that bit.

Littletreefrog · 12/07/2025 19:36

I'm watching but very behind. I have this on DVD but nothing to watch DVDs on! I was 2 years old. My parents were there. They both have dementia now but have called me to ask if I was watching it and have I seen them in the crowd yet?!

Not sure Roxanne is a stadium-pleaser.

It would be, in its original state, I think.

PhaseFour · 12/07/2025 19:37

Yeah - thst version of Roxanne was a strange one to start the set with.

EverardDeTroyes · 12/07/2025 19:37

Despite being 20 in 1985, I didn't watch much of Live Aid. Watching it now, I can certainly see why Queen's performance was so lauded.....

Oh that made me cry. X

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 19:38

That piano was a bit out of tune 😬

CatKings · 12/07/2025 19:38

I can remember it being being on when I was 8 and thinking it was a bit boring. I’m afraid I’ve come to the same conclusion. Sade is only woman though! (I know Madonna was on in Philly).

You can’t have seen much in the audience, I said Midge Ure in that grey overcoat must have been impossible to see.

HauntedBungalow · 12/07/2025 19:38

He really has got a whiney voice.

Raahh · 12/07/2025 19:38

Aww.

Whatever happened to Steve Brookstein?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/07/2025 19:38

Queen rehearsed for three days before this. I don't think most of the rest did. They were perfectionists. RIP Freddie. Was watching a retrospective on BBC 4 last night. What a talent, what a showman. Sad

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 19:39

40 years though! 😨

YourBlueSquid · 12/07/2025 19:39

They all still had a very long day ahead .

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 19:39

I was 20 when this was on, so I do remember what an exciting event this was.

He’s probably still trying to find Louis and kill him Grin

All of them seem to have such fabulous voices.

Nothing wrong with being a perfectionist (massive Queen fan here). Did you watch Live Aid at 40, the 3 part documentary that was on last week? Bob Geldof really didn't like Queen.... says everything i want to know about the man.

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2025 19:42

I couldn’t understand why Queen got all that praise either 🤷🏻‍♀️
