I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

Madonna was always more than just the vocals, which is the aspect of her performance she had the least control over. Everything else she worked at with phenomenal discipline eventually achieving great mastery. Her tours in the 80s and 90s were spectacles, like no one had done before and she utilised every aspect of her physical self to an extraordinary degree, for years, creating them. I do think that like many visionaries she's lost her way but my god what a legacy she has behind her. Fascinating to see her on LA, near the start of this process.

His backing singers are having the gig of their lives.

It's Pepsi and Shirley

Been out to walk the dog so missed Queen (great timing as neither of us like them) but back just in time for Bowie ❤️

I'm not a Queen fan, never was. I can appreciate he can sing, but I just don't 'get ' it really.

But-music is subjective.

I hated the Carpenters too. Grin.

To be fair, they ARE just standing there singing. She moved around quite a bit.

You shouldn’t do stuff which affects the quality of your singing that much. She’s always been pitchy (though a great performer).

JenniferBooth · 12/07/2025 22:17

I love the long blue chiffon shirt the backing singer is wearing 80s fashion wasnt all bad

tobee · 12/07/2025 22:17

Loved the outfits the backing singers were wearing in 1985 and love them now in 2025!!

Tudorduxbury · 12/07/2025 22:17

I love the fashions, hair, everything, I would go back like a shot

tothelefttotheleft · 12/07/2025 22:17

I'm really confused. I've put the concert on and Queen are first. I thought status quo were first?

Those who were at Wembley - did they show any of the Philadelphia concert on screens? Between set changes maybe? Or did you have to wait until you were back home at watch it on TV.

I assume Phil Colllins has done his Wembley bit by now and is on his way to Philadelphia on Concorde? Or has he done his Philadelphia stint already?

As I said earlier in the thread I was at Live Aid and remember next to nothing , strange because I remember loads about Queen at Wembley the year after .

MichaelandKirk · 12/07/2025 22:18

It's in two parts on iplayer

tobee · 12/07/2025 22:19

I wasn't really a Queen fan at the time, thought they were a bit uncool but loved them from this concert on - they gave the crowd what they wanted; that was the moment Live Aid really meant something.

Middlemarch123 · 12/07/2025 22:19

My son’s a session drummer, worked with a lot of current bands. He says these musicians are the real deal. Craftsman. How lucky were we to witness this talent?

They split it into two halves so I guess you put the second one on?

MichaelandKirk · 12/07/2025 22:19

Could you imagine him giving you away as Father of the Bride.

Wasn’t all bad? What are you saying? It was amazing. All of it. I won’t hear any criticism…

JenniferBooth · 12/07/2025 22:20

I love Madonnas songs. She has done some beautiful ballads.
I remember singing along to Live To Tell on the coach on the school trip to Switzerland

One of my biggest regrets is never going to see Bowie in concert

I was luckily enough to see him twice. He was amazing.

Thejackrussellsrule · 12/07/2025 22:20

According to Google, the backing singers are Tessa Niles and Helena Springs.

piscofrisco · 12/07/2025 22:20

I was 4. So my Mum would have been 43-two years younger than I am now. I don’t remember it but she said it was brilliant.
Just put this on now and I’m really enjoying it. Im struck by how good the singing is. Just shows that to be a pop star in the 80’s you had to have actual talent! I thought the young Madonna was great. And she looked gorgeous.
Have I missed Wham?
