Esme is really negative about Gaynor. I’m not Gaynor’s biggest fan but the transformation I thought was quite good and her M2M was great.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 02/09/2025 21:56

And Orla is slightly annoying me tonight.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 02/09/2025 21:56

The two Garments of The Week are scary mostly because of the face part.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 02/09/2025 21:59

Yes, I agree that Gaynor’s M2M was great. It was better made than the doll dress. The scarecrow was a simple make, just a basic top and trousers with an added shredded edging.

Yes I think she was horrid in the M2M when it was lovely. Overly critical

Summeriscumin · 02/09/2025 22:10

The scarecrow was hardly a made to measure. Gaynor’s would have been perfect for the character. Horror is full of beautiful women in fabulous dresses. Hadn’t Esme seen a vampire movie? And it fitted and was beautifully sewn. Gaynor deserved another week.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 02/09/2025 22:27

I agree, @Summeriscumin

And yet Esme criticized Gaynor's seams but didn't say anything about the wonky collar and badly finished sleeves in the doll dress. Maybe it's down to the editing but Esme seems to just find fault with Gaynor's garments and not praise the good bits.

Unilaterallyinsane · 02/09/2025 22:40

Agree with everything everyone has said about Esme criticising Gaynor’s work.

placemats · 02/09/2025 22:46

There was never a Doctor Who film. Agree too that Esme was overly critical of Gaynor

Of course there have been Dr Who films. Google it. One in 1965 and one in 1996.

CorrectionCentre · 03/09/2025 13:31

I agree that Gaynors outfit was better sewn and fitted than others this week. But I do think the right 4 are in the semifinals.
Kit's ability to understand patterns, construction, fabrics etc is extraordinary and his sewing is quick and neat. Those are very important skills to have. I don't think his costume should have won garment of the week though. It was supposed to be made to measure and it would fitted pretty much anyone 🙄
I'm not sure the brief was clear, either. A character in a horror film doesn't necessarily look scary. The judges clearly were expecting a definite element of overt horror in the MTM but I'm not sure that was made explicit in the brief.

And a Steven Spielberg attempt before the reboot!

placemats · 03/09/2025 19:03

So looking forward to next week and the 1920s. Proper sewing.

berryberi · 03/09/2025 20:44

I feel there's a bit of favouritism towards Kit. His M2M wasn't very impressive IMO. My feeling is that he gets more than the benefit of the doubt at every turn.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2025 20:47

He is clearly extremely good at the pattern challenge.

it was pretty much a complete copy of the Doctor Who ep it referenced. Órla's was original. Gaynors was lovely. As was Caz's. I'd wear that.

Unilaterallyinsane · 03/09/2025 22:48

I just can’t warm to Kit.

While acknowledging that he's very good, I too feel that. It's putting me off the show, actually.

I didn’t know that Sara Pascoe’s dad was in a 70s boy band - Derek Pascoe of Flintlock

I know I’m late to this. I remember their song Dawn Is Breaking, they appeared on You Must be Joking with Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson etc long before Birds of a Feather. I used to love it

deeahgwitch · 04/09/2025 08:18

I agree re Esme’s attitude to Gaynor.
I thought Gaynor was a lovely sweet lady and an excellent sewer but that’s not going to win you The Great British Sewing Bee.
I too think Kit is being favoured.
But Caz will win, maybe.

doglover90 · 07/09/2025 16:55

Gaynor is an excellent sewist but she has form for consistently ignoring briefs. Even if we assume that the overt horror element wasn't made clear enough this week, there have been several tasks where she's ignored what the judges wanted, or produced something relatively simple leaving herself with time to just sit around rather than actually challenging herself. She also hasn't placed highly in pattern challenges for a while. I think it would have been unfair if another contestant had gone this week instead of her. That said, I did find Esme's constant nitpicking quite uncomfortable to watch, and I do think there is an element of favouriting Kit - Orla should have got GOTW by herself.

placemats · 07/09/2025 18:05

We are constantly told that the judging is on a week by week basis, which sadly is why Dan went out ahead of Stuart.

Eta It's not called the Great British Sewing Challenge. It's The Great British Sewing Bee. Each on their own through each round.

FlowerUser · 07/09/2025 19:05

These shows do take into account previous work though. I remember Raoul on Bake Off had a shocking week and really should have gone by they considered guys previous week. Then he went on to win it.

MyDadWasAnArse · 07/09/2025 21:22

Why are they favouring Kit?
