Yes, I think it was deliberate, and unnecessary.

Making clothes look attractive and fun is also 'unnecessary' if you are going to take that joyless approach to life. Of course Kit didn't have to dress as a cowboy for children's week, but it made me smile. Caz doesn't have to wear brightly coloured glasses, Esme doesn't need to wear statement necklances. It is all unecessary - but, so what? It's TV entertainment, not a philosophical summit on the virtues of ascetism Grin

I am perplexed by what Sara Pascoe wears on the show! Is it deliberately weird? Even Esme's outfits look odd to me, but I hate bows (even those tiny ones they put on bras). I am obviously a stranger to fashion.

Sara dresses to say "hey look at me aren't I funny and entertaining" - I find it irritating. Esme is stylish rather than fashionable - as you would expect from the doyenne of St Martin's. It isn't how I would dress but she is always well put together (and fun).

Sara Pascoe dresses in a similar outlandish way every week though!

So that's her style then 🤷‍♀️. So what?

None of it is necessary. What are you implying?

So nothing. I merely said it looked odd to me. I think we are allowed to comment on clothes here, seeing as it's a programme which involves a lot of clothes and even the judging of clothes (and not just the sewing aspect).

I wouldn't wear what she wears either, or what Esme wears but each to their own.

Just watching it now and disappointed the Adaptive pattern was for a child. Yes 1 in 5 people may have a disability but most of those will be elderly. Osteoarthritis and reduced hearing and eyesight are far more common than the conditions mentioned by the Sewing Bee. Instead of adult outfits being party fancy dress and trendy they should do more outfits for older people

2Rebecca · 22/08/2025 20:09

I am a dressmaker and bag maker

Sewist is poor grammar

Sewist is poor grammar

Pianist not pianoer
Stylist not styler
Typist not typer
Hygienist not hygiener
Dentist not dentaler

It's not grammar just what sounds better. In the case of 'sewist' it's what looks better written down as sewer (sewing) can differentiated from sewer (sewage) when spoken.

How? It's just a word.

rubbish.

also if you were paying attention (re your complaint about the adaptive pattern being for a child) it was children's week.

I assume 2Rebecca was saying adaptive pattern could have been in an adults week instead.

PickAChew · 22/08/2025 22:26

It could have been but it wasn't. Maybe another time.

Sarah's clothes often baffle me. Sometimes they're awful like the toddler style meringue thing she wore in week 1. Those checked trousers which were badly pattern matched were a very expensive abomination. Then every now and then she wears something genuinely lovely like the Edwardian style bloud with the patchwork yoke, a few series ago and the gorgeous silk shirt she wore last week. I ended up snapping a photo to find out more about that one. I had no interest in finding out about the hideous sequined trousers that didn't go with it at all, though 😂

ShoAndSew · 22/08/2025 22:27

well, yes, adaptive patterns could be included any week. But they weren't.

I don't like Pascoe's clothes, not my taste. I do think Esme always looks stylish.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 23/08/2025 08:25

I cant warm to Kit because even though he is a good sewer, in my opinion he didnt deserve half of the challenge wins. It came across like no matter what he made patrick and esme would have chosen him as winner.

I think he deserved every win. Why would they be biased? Also, you only see an edit and they see much more.

I think it's a shame that Yasmin hasn't won more, when she's been in second place so often. She deserved to win some of those over Kit in my opinion.

I agree with this. I can't remember which week it was, but I thought for sure she would win, but again it was Kit.

ShoAndSew · 23/08/2025 12:52

i think Yasmin just needs to be a bit more out there. And then she will win something.
But tbh, i would like her in the final with Caz and Kit. And then i wouldn't mind if she won if her sewing is good. So come in under the radar and BAM!

Thanks for this. I want one of those little wheel tools now. We had them at school.

ShoAndSew · 23/08/2025 13:51

what wheels? the rotary cutters? an absolute game changer.

placemats · 23/08/2025 14:59

I'm not a fan of the wheel cutting if you want a finished outfit in your own time - both scissors and wheels require a large space, the wheels obviously not on a surface you love and cherish.

I like the sound of good sharp scissors cutting through fabric.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/08/2025 15:25

Not a rotary cutter I have one of those which I use on a mat for quilting not dressmaking. It was a spiky tracing tool.
