I'm not a fan of the wheel cutting if you want a finished outfit in your own time - both scissors and wheels require a large space, the wheels obviously not on a surface you love and cherish.

I like the sound of good sharp scissors cutting through fabric.

obvs you need a cutting mat for a rotary cutter.

didn't see that one @CaptainMyCaptain i have one of those, it's brilliant with the carbon paper (the sewing stuff, not the typewriter stuff) for putting the markings on the fabric

MoltenLasagne · 23/08/2025 19:09

I love a tracing wheel, I use them to mark the exact seam line when doing finickety sewing. It's very satisfying.

I have two of them already. Love my scissors better.

Me too. I've never really got on very well with my rotary cutter. I have different sized scissors that give me more control when I'm cutting out "fiddly bits".

PickAChew · 23/08/2025 21:23

I use rotary cutters quite a lot due to an arthritic thumb that objects to more than the odd few snips with scissors. Not in the slap dash way they do on GBSB, though! I like the rest of my digits too much

ShoAndSew · 23/08/2025 21:51

Rotary cutters are great for long straight bits. I use shears sor other parts

Victoriawould24 · 23/08/2025 22:17

I am very much a fan of Kits sewing but I thought he messed up the transformation challenge this week on purpose to avoid looking like the goody two shoes always winning everything. He even said ‘I deserve to be in the bottom with this’ like that was is aim - he could afford to lose.

PickAChew · 23/08/2025 23:04

I have some lovely shears and can't even open them properly :(

2Rebecca · 23/08/2025 23:15

I haven't looked back since getting my rotary cutter. I have a large one and a small one and 2 cutting mats that I place on the dining table and I place weights on the pattern. It is great for slippery fabrics like silk satin. I use my scissors for fiddly bits but >90% is rotary cut

OrangeAndPistachio · 23/08/2025 23:48

@2Rebecca I love my rotary cutter too. I use a very small one (on an A0 cutting mat) for jersey fabrics. I initially bought the classic larger cutter but was recommended a smaller blade which has been game changing for accuracy. Scissors lift the fabric which is the last thing you need when you've spent ages placing some viscose jersey on the foldline!

I thought he looked a bit miffed about it, also about not getting Garment of the week. But credit to him for accepting that his transformation challenge was quite crap.

I agree that Yasmin's wasn't obviously 'fun' for the age of the model. But it made me smile seeing a mini politician Grin It reminded me of a current advert for a bank (can't remember which) where there are young children dressed as adults having adult conversations about finances, like splitting the bill in a restaurant.

I thought the same, I love those adverts, they're really funny.

PickAChew · 24/08/2025 13:00

Yasmin's model was no doubt acting serious, as a politician would in the eyes of a 9 year old.

Oh missed this comment. Totally agree. It's a great advert.

Orla's beekeeper outfit was my favourite this week. Caz is my favourite of the contestants, I don't always like what she makes but I love her approach to the challenges and she seems a really fun and genuine person who loves sewing. Kit is clearly very creative and talented, and will probably win. I was sad to see Dan go because I like him.

The person I'd like to have seen more from was Saffi. It was the right decision to send her home in episode 2 as she hadn't finished her made to measure, but she had some really interesting ideas for garments.

Urgh. No pics of Grayson Peery at children's events with a prosthetic willy?

LIZS · 26/08/2025 21:07

This is a bit fussy for my taste

PickAChew · 26/08/2025 21:08

Sarah's jumper looks like me when I've been doing a lot of seam trimming!

BishyBarnyBee · 26/08/2025 21:08

Looks really quite tough to sew.

Gaynor looking astonished at the very idea of being a bit more radical this week!.

Pancakeflipper · 26/08/2025 21:09

Ooh these collars and frills must be time consuming.

Sausagenbacon · 26/08/2025 21:09

Yes. Grayson Perry creeps me out. I can't understand why he's the nation's darling

I feel I missed something grim regarding our "cultural guru".

BishyBarnyBee · 26/08/2025 21:13

Might be just the editing and it'll come together in the end, but this is looking a lot like the production team have set an impossible challenge in the time.

murasaki · 26/08/2025 21:14

He's openly admitted getting a sexual kick from dressing as Claire.

I do like his pots though.

2Rebecca · 26/08/2025 21:14

I vaguely know him as a female impersonator who has a creepy view of feminine attire but hadn’t been interested enough in him to know about the “ baby doll” connections although it figures. Shame no real artist as an inspiration
