I'm looking forward to it.

Exactly. It reminded me of the Scout leader in 'Ghosts'.

he is not dubious at all though. And that's what i think about Kit too in that outfit, genuinely a happy chap, who was thrilled to be doing the week's challenges, was astute enough to incorporate something into his m2m based on what they had done before in the show (which i think was marvellous, it really shows that he thinks carefully about what he makes)

But the cowboy outfit, while fun and i totally get his vibe - does not come across to everyone like that. These are, unfortunately the times we live in.

But. I do hope that he's in the final, i really enjoy watching the joy he has in sewing. Same goes for Caz, same goes for Órla and Jasmine. Gaynor clearly loves sewing, but she really seemed to think she was leaving the show based on what she said, and seemed to be a bit relieved. Maybe the filming etc is just too tiring?

Tourist29 · 21/08/2025 13:21

I think Gaynor is rightly feeling a bit downtrodden, her face fell when Esme criticised her design.
The cowboy outfit was a bit too Daffyd Thomas for me.

MyDadWasAnArse · 21/08/2025 13:59

I went to a quilting festival in Malvern years ago and met Patrick, he was lovely.

placemats · 21/08/2025 14:07

I love a quilted jacket. It's been adapted for consumer purchases but the essence of the jacket should remain the same. It's easy to find one to suit your budget and I have to say George, Asda are good at this.

Do you mean the dungarees? Would he have time between the pattern challenge and the M2M to make the tweaks to his design and plan? (I don't know how the filming schedule works).

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 21/08/2025 15:29

@LittleBitofBread Patrick was talking about it on a YouTube interview with the Foldline. They do two days for one episode, break for a day, then do another two days, then a week off. The m2m is on the second day, so he would have had overnight from the pattern challenge to think about the m2m.

I'm going to iPlayer to watch every season from episode 1.

ShoAndSew · 21/08/2025 15:48

yep, he said that he changed the design of the straps to incorporate the design element from the adaptive dungarees from the pattern challenge.

When the patterns were handed out, he said something like "yes, i knew it" or something. Which lead me to believe that he had done his homework and guessed what they might possibly be making. Which means he had practised dungarees. Which i thought was excellent research and guesswork, if i'm right.

MsFelicityLemon · 21/08/2025 17:37

Not sure if im just remembering a preview but I feel like Kit has said "yes i knew it" (in different phrasing) about the pattern challenge before.

He did.

Of course the contestants are going to speculate about what the pattern challenge might be. They know the theme for the week, they know what the pattern challenges have been in previous series, and what the made to measure is. So if it's - for example - nightwear week, and in previous years they've made flannel jammies, a nightshirt and a child's onesie, you could hazard a guess that it's going to be a bathrobe/wrap, or a cami top/shorts set.

MsFelicityLemon · 21/08/2025 19:10

Thought he had. I think, for me, this is what makes Kit harder to warm too. It just feeds into that irritation from school where the teacher's pet always smugly claimed (with no back up) they knew something and you know will always get gushing praise no matter what.

He just gives me that vibe. becoming a bit off putting that he wins the pattern challenge (though to be fair, he is talented!).

They are a nice bunch overall aren't they. Dan did seem to like Caz the most didn't he!!

Hiddendoor · 21/08/2025 20:22

I think Kit is a bit immature and earnest - he is young though and I think will be less "main character energy" about himself in a few years.

But he is excellent with his technical skills. He does very well with the technical challenges and executed the transformation challenges well. But the M2M is his downfall when he has to fit to someone not his size or shape.

I love Caz. She has an amazing sense of style and her M2M are excellent because she makes so many clothes for other people. I want her to win but wouldn't be upset if Kit or Yasmin won.

Gaynor's ballet outfit was very well made. I think she has, at this point, just decided to do her own thing. She is skilled and experienced and I think she would have done very, very well in one of the early series.

The Scout leader in ghosts was not in any way dubious.

Quite agree. Nothing wrong with Pat Butcher at all.

I agree. I just meant the costume and fit looked similar.

ShoAndSew · 21/08/2025 21:26

don't get me wrong, i really admire that Kit has clearly prepared himself for being on the sewing bee by "doing his research" and working out probabilities. I think that is a bloody excellent mindset.

I agree about Gaynor. I get the feeling that she’s decided she’s going to do what she wants, even though she knows it’s not what they’re looking for.

As others have said, I can’t warm to Kit, although I can’t deny it, his sewing is excellent. His outfit just made me think he looked like a really big toddler. Although Sarah Pascoe’s had a similar effect, it reminded me of when DD first started dressing herself.

I will miss Dan, he seemed lovely, and very genuine, although it was the right decision to send him home.

I like Caz too, I’d love it if she won. She was quite emotional about her Zandra Rhodes outfit, it clearly meant a lot to her.

I am perplexed by what Sara Pascoe wears on the show! Is it deliberately weird? Even Esme's outfits look odd to me, but I hate bows (even those tiny ones they put on bras). I am obviously a stranger to fashion.

Sara dresses like a clown, I have no idea why. I get that some people like lots of colour and pattern but to me, she's way OTT with it.

Castlerigg · 22/08/2025 09:01

I also hate bows! If I am ever fashionable, it is entirely accidental.

Sara Pascoe dresses in a similar outlandish way every week though!

But again - you are implying Gaynor has been unfairly treated. I don't think there's any evidence of that at all. Gaynor is feeling slightly outclassed because she's not as strong a competitor as some of the others. She's great, she's a lovely sewer, she's done brilliantly to get on the show and hold her own for several weeks. But she isn't thinking about what the judges are looking for, so she isn't getting unqualified praise.

I don't see that they are favouring "characters" in the judging. They definitely want some stronger characters on the show, otherwise it would be quite boring. But there are always lots of quieter characters as well. The very wacky characters who can't sew well - like Suzy last year - will go some of the way but not to the final. And the same is true for the more traditional sewers who can't be creative under pressure.

Interestingly, the person last year who grated on me (though I did come to like her later) was very different to Kit but had a similar "main character" vibe. Alex just had a similar way of "taking the stage" that made her seem very overconfident and not that likeable at first. I think I only warmed to her later in the series when she seemed a bit more vulnerable. I think it's an interesting dynamic about the British and reality shows - we tend to support the underdog and are suspicious of very confident, ambitious contestants. Whereas in America, everyone is expected to blow their own trumpet with huge confidence!

Yes, I think it was deliberate, and unnecessary.
