forgot to say, i never watch all the pre-credit stuff, and as soon as they say who's off i stop watching.

I am a bit torn about the m2m challenges. I did like this week's though, but how many home sewers have to make spectacular garments? (having said that, my mum made 3 or 4 ball gowns and countless cocktail dresses when i was young in the 60s, 70s and 80s, due to mess balls and so on. Can't wear the same dress twice and all that. Some of them really were spectacular)

It's not Project Runway, it is the Great British Sewing Bee and it is supposed to find the best home sewist. Not the next Stella McCartney. And i swear if next year's High Fashion Week (or whatever they call it) features Vivienne Bloomin' Westwood again i will be Very Cross Indeed.

Caz for the win - or is it too early to speculate?

Caz isn an excellent sewer and very creative, but I don't really like how her M2M's look. I can see how cleverly she has subverted the brief and how well she has sewn it - I just don't find the end results very attractive. The camo & neon lace did not work for me and I didn't like the Dorothy dress last week. But the judge's seem to love it so she probably will win.

ShoAndSew · 07/08/2025 10:10

i think the judging is a bit - meh.

For the pattern challenge: can they understand the pattern instructions, is the construction basically all in the right place, with topstitching, sink stitching, hems etc all in the right place. Are the buttons/ties on the right way. Was the type of fabric right for the pattern.
Are the seams bouncy, are the points all turned well etc etc. And then maybe colour choice and general look of the garment.

For the (in its current form) transformation: does it look very different to how it started, did it use as much of the transforming stuff as possible, is it able to be worn, taken off, go to the loo etc

for the m2m: does it fit the brief, does it fit the model, is it technically excellent (see above), right fabrics? and so on.

i should take over from Esme!

I’ve not liked either of the last 2 GOTW , they are not to my taste and I really don’t see how the Alice one fitted the brief at all but she can sew so it doesn’t bother me that much , they do have their favourites .

Did the preview show them having to make something out of tent material? That sort of thing really irritates me. Who would ever do that in RL?

I agree. Didn't they once make dog coats out of tent fabric?

Isn’t that rather the point of Recycling week, to give ideas as to how material can be sourced and reused beyond the obvious.

PickAChew · 09/08/2025 13:45

Your average old tent is likely to be stained, less than fresh smelling and probably sweaty to wear, even as outerwear. It's a ridiculous concept.

placemats · 09/08/2025 13:51

I would probably use an old tent or awning cover for outdoor furniture - way more practical use. You could make a cape or beach mat.

ChompandaGrazia · 09/08/2025 16:46

I’d love it if they would show practical fixes like how to fix a pair of jeans that have rubbed through on the thighs.

That'd be really helpful!

Watching it again and think Gaynor's dress would make a great wedding guest outfit.

MrsSpendTooMuch · 09/08/2025 19:39

I've loved Sewing Bee since the beginning, and I've been trying to get into sewing for a few years (with not a lot of success so far!). This episode has been my favourite of the new series so far, interesting challenges, some fantastic garments and I really liked Eudon Choi.

MsFelicityLemon · 10/08/2025 12:26

Only just managed to catch up on last episode. I was thinking something when they were getting the material for the pattern challenge. Do you think some contestants are quite "dominant" when they have to chose fabric or items - especially in the transformation challenge.

We often don't see them at the very start of the selection just them approaching then just as they have their selection. Do you think that's because Gaynors administering a few well aimed shin kicks and jabs to the ribs, and Kit and Caz come to fisticuffs?

I was just thinking along those lines recently. If they had challenges about repairing things in an attractive and creative manner, surely that would be right up Patrick's street.

They'd no doubt say that it wouldn't make good telly but they show more of the contestants' panic and 'humour' than actual sewing anyway so it would be a weak argument. And if it would stop even one tiny holed garment going to add to cloth mountains in Africa surely that would be A Good Thing?

2Rebecca · 10/08/2025 22:09

I hate the grabby frenzy part of the transformation challenge. I hate it when they talk about the colours looking good when that was probably just the sharpest elbowed person. When they have to “ find” a reused thing a lot of them look like they have cheated. The judo ( or whatever it was) belts were good as they all got the same

SabrinaThwaite · 12/08/2025 21:03

Zero waste pattern sounds tricky.

CrushingOnRubies · 12/08/2025 21:08

the maths in this sounds tricky.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/08/2025 21:10

Did Kit just go bright red when Esme called him cute?

SabrinaThwaite · 12/08/2025 21:13

They really haven’t been given enough time to do this challenge.

Pancakeflipper · 12/08/2025 21:15

Ooofff - no room for error.

Pancakeflipper · 12/08/2025 21:18

Love Orla's jacket

Oh Gaynor - the sleeves!
And Kit is dressing Mr Tumble

SabrinaThwaite · 12/08/2025 21:21

But a well tailored Mr Tumble.

HeadNorth · 12/08/2025 21:23

Kit really does seem to be an amazing technical sewer

ChompandaGrazia · 12/08/2025 21:25

No surprise that Kit won that. How did Gaynor manage to have sleeves that were too long?
