I'm looking forward to it.

Novello is a bit how I would imagine Patsy from AB Fab would be like doing sewing bee

At one point I thought her expression reminded me of Joanna Lumley so I agree.

HeadNorth · 05/08/2025 21:56

Caz has done a great job in the made to measure. Caz and Kit are the best at the moment - they are both so lovely and positive too, they seem to really love their sewing.

Oh yes! Just needs a Stolly Bolly (but she’s much nicer than Patsy).

Fandangoes · 05/08/2025 22:00

kaz’s dress was amazing! Well deserved win

MoltenLasagne · 05/08/2025 22:02

I loved so many of those mtm outfits, I think they did a great job. Kit gave himself a hell of a job trying to self draft a pattern that complex.

placemats · 05/08/2025 22:02

I shall miss Novello's hats too. It's been a very tough week and sadly I do agree with the decision.

Great and deserved win for Caz. They were all good in made to measure and I liked the elf outfit 😂

PickAChew · 05/08/2025 22:05

Caz's MTM was quite impressive. She has great sewing skills and is so good at thinking outside the box.

Dan was lucky that Novello had more of a stinker of a week than he did.

BestIsWest · 05/08/2025 22:15

Kit is an excellent technical sewer but so is Caz. I really would like her to win as I like her MTMs but they both deserve to be in the final.

Summeriscumin · 05/08/2025 22:16

I really didn’t enjoy last year’s and thought the wrong person won above better sewers and designers. I expected them to leave around week 3. But I love all of this year’s group. All such lovely people and very good technicians which was missing last year. I agree it’s between Kit and Caz but have a soft spot for Gaynor.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 05/08/2025 22:22

I really liked the guest judge. He managed to say something positive about every garment, I think, and came up with some unexpected remarks. We can predict what Esme and Patrick will look for and comment on (and rightly so, they are basic techniques): it was good to have something else as well.

in particular, I think it was about the red and green quilted outfit, he made a historical reference (these were the colours used in a somethingth century wedding outfit) but said they were also Christmassy/elf-like or similar.

Does Novello make her own hat patterns? I especially liked tonight’s.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/08/2025 22:27

Both this week and last week Caz's fabrics and vision for the final challenge have made me go 'hmm, not sure that's going to work' and both times she has just knocked it out of the park.

I would love to go shopping with Caz. She certainly knows how to put an outfit together.

OrangeAndPistachio · 06/08/2025 05:55

I think Jasmin is one to watch. She's quietly producing good quality garments and is very much a potential winner. I can see her kit and Caz in the final.

I agree. Not so much about Gaynor, I think she struggles with the speed and will go. That's not really a criticism as I would struggle with the speed too but it's a drawback in terms of the competition.

plinkityplink · 06/08/2025 08:06

Who comes up with the timings for these? I mean 3.25 hours was obviously way too short a time for the pattern challenge and I thought this was a competition to see who the best sewer is, not a race. Would love to know how long it took the expert to make the display garment, I bet it was a darned sight longer!

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/08/2025 08:20

I am an experienced sewer and I generally spend a couple of hours on the cutting out stage. It's important to get that right imo.

LIZS · 06/08/2025 08:57

I thought it was a bit of a cop out that some of the mtm were basically elongated versions of the pattern challenge.

I don't think the contestants could have known that. They plan the mtm ahead of the competition so they have time to plan, practice it and draft it if necessary. They only see the pattern challenge when it's handed out.

I think it will eventually be between Caz, Kit , Orla and Jasmin but it is so much better than last year

BippidyBoppety · 06/08/2025 10:09

Was really entertained by last nights programme. I was out with friends last night and we were discussing how random it is to have a primetime BBC show based on 12 people sewing. It is a shame the makeovers aren't more user friendly, maybe to inspire general public to reuse more rather than bin clothes.

Loved the Korean guest judge, what a lovely guy. Interesting challenges, great results from pretty much all of them.

I really liked Gaynor's MTM, looked workable for high street fashion, lovely colours and nicely put together. She's a competent sewer.

Kit and Caz have vision and will do very well.

BestIsWest · 06/08/2025 10:21

Gaynor’s MTM was lovely. It was a good show last night.

placemats · 06/08/2025 10:39

Yes agree that Gaynor makes very wearable clothes and she clearly practiced her mtm, so I do wonder why she ran out of time on the pattern challenge. Eudon Choi was so lovely and kind.

Castlerigg · 06/08/2025 12:30

I really enjoyed last night’s program, the Korean judge was really nice. I sometimes think Esme in particular forgets to compliment good work, and focuses on faults.

I liked Gaynor’s mtm, it looked very wearable.

Agree that Dan dodged a bullet, Jasmine is one to watch, and Caz and Kit in the final. I like Orla too. Couldn’t stand Novello’s hat!

We aren't shown everything the judges say, though. It may be the production company wants to give that slant to her comments.

I didn't like it at all at first, but enjoyed it more as the programme went on. It reminded me of the national dress of somewhere, but I can't remember where and a quick internet search isn't helping.
