Does anyone else think that Stuart and Patrick look alike?

Yes, a bit. But only frontal, in profile I think they look quite different.

Man in tie at sewing machine makes me nervous - he could get tangled.

I had my H&S hat on for that one too - entanglement 🫣

FitAt50 · 29/07/2025 22:26

The man in the dress, WHY

pastabest · 29/07/2025 22:26

OrangeAndPistachio · 29/07/2025 22:12

Agree with @pastabest re Minerva. That blue print fabric was around a lot last year!

I'm still very impressed by this lot. Their stretch sewing skills are pretty sound , so many contestants in the past have lacked that skill. Even the lower end wrap dresses were very wearable.

I'm happy for Caz , but Yasmin's m2m was my favourite. I had a big grin on my face when I saw her creation. It was so good.

Glendora did so well , all it takes is one tricky week and you're out. She's clearly a very knowledgeable sewist.

Another great episode and I still have no idea who will win.

Edited

I think they have provided the fabrics for quite a few years but it's much more obvious now that they have launched their own design line as those ones can only be from minerva.

To people outside of the sewing community I assume it's just pretty fabric 😆

I've a few items I've made in Minverva own fabrics and I really hope one of the contestants use one of the designs I've got at some point just to see how it looks on TV.

Yes. DH (who doesn’t watch it of course) thinks they are brothers.

OrangeAndPistachio · 29/07/2025 22:30

@pastabest they have a lot of fabric godmother prints too don't they? Also very distinctive designs. Beautiful quality also.

Ooh maybe.

I'd really like it if they could list where the fabric and patterns were from but understand with it being BBC they can't.

But how great would be to get people into sewing

'Rachel is sewing the Friday Pattern Company Patina Blouse in Liberty Tana Lawn'

Or 'Monica is making the Tilly and The Buttons Lyra Dress in a Viscose Twill from The Fabric Godmother'

I don't understand reusing a perfectly good quilt unless it's for a quilt jacket. Sadly item linked below no longer available.

He seems nice but for some reason he's triggering the Trainspotting parts of my brain, but that might just be the accent.

Dan’s from Durham - Trainspotting is set in Edinburgh!

OrangeAndPistachio · 29/07/2025 22:40

@pastabest I'd love that. It's great when they're allowed to tell us on Instagram once the show has aired. I thought the jumper that Jess made last week was a Drew by tatb , but I don't think that pattern was released at the time of filming.

I'm in Ireland, even so I should be able to tell a Scottish accent from a northern accent, but clearly can't. Grin I actually don't think I could reliably place the origin of any of the contestants.

Well you have Patrick’s broad Scottish accent to compare it with……

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/07/2025 22:53

I'm not great with accents, even in Ireland I can mostly identify Dublin or Not-Dublin. I lived in London for a bit, and it was similar there I could indentify London (mostly) or not London. I worked with a woman with a Spanish name and an accent that I assumed for years was a Spanish accent, she was from Wales. Grin

🤔🤣

That’s Posh Scots (cf Tony Blair).

If it was Peterhead or the Broch you’d be lucky to catch one word in three (I remember the BBC Scotland programme about the Peterhead fishermen having subtitles - for Scottish viewers).

I really liked the wrap dress and need to rewatch the beginning to see if it’s real wrap or faux wrap. I think the former as they had holes in the seams. Interesting using a cover stitch which I never have. I made a cotton wrap dress and deciding how to finish the edge was tricky. Not a Versace fan. Some interesting dresses. Pleased Kit can put a man in a dress without saying that makes him a woman and is a trans/ drag thing, he’s just a man in a dress because he thinks wearing a dress can be fun.
why does Esme say “crutch” when she means “crotch”?

Why not? Women wear trousers. A kilt is just a type of skirt, and it's a beautiful garment on a man.

Really enjoying this series. I'd love Kaz to win, but they are all good!

Suntree32 · 30/07/2025 07:57

Can I ask a question about putting a man in a dress without getting jumped on? In previous series (maybe way back) they definitely used to talk about how it was easier to fit garments to men rather than women due to women's shape. Is making a dress for a man a bit of a copy out? Genuine question as I can only sew a tablecloth!!

People of that generation do say “crutch”, my granny did.

Do you follow vibes and scribes on sm (huge craft shop in Cork, online and b&m) they claimed Dan as their own at the start of the series, don't think they said on what basis? I assumed co-worker, but maybe it's customer?

I think it would be easier to make a dress for a flat-chested person, no matter what sex they are, just because there are fewer curves. But I guess it might be harder to adapt a bought dress pattern to fit a man as you'd have to widen the shoulders and change other proportions.

SpeculatingRooks · 30/07/2025 10:16

I was very proud last night when one of my cushion covers was used in the transformation challenge! I was pointing going that's my cushion!! Dds were unimpressed.
I loved the Dorothy dress Caz is my favourite but also like Gaynor. Gaynors versace dress was the most wearable!

I agree. I am an experienced sewer and think taking out the curves would be as difficult as adding them. I've made my own clothes since the 1970s but am fortunately fairly average shaped so I don't need to make many alterations to fit - maybe enlarge the waist on skirts and trousers and take in the shoulders on one shirt pattern I have.
