I'm looking forward to it.

I love Caz - she has great imagination and is a wonderful sewist to boot. Really impressed with her the last couple of weeks.

I liked Glendora, but I think the programme has moved on from the "traditional" sewing that she said she feels she is, and is going towards more of an "out there" vibe. Which i do like, i get a lot of inspiration. Makes it hard for contestants though.

Dan definitely reminds me of someone. I think it might be Lad Baby (the face) but maybe not...

Looking forward to Korea week!

Yes - and imagine if he went on to talk about 'slutty' clubs etc!

That was my exact thought. The mandatory gender benders get a free pass to this kind of guff. I don't want to hear the word 'slutty' on a sewing programme thanks very much.

My take so far is that the tall guy (Paul?) was robbed last week, he had so much potential. This week's Dorothy dress was an absolute star turn, I hope she can auction it for charity or whatever after the series finishes.

The fake J Lo dress was blimmin awful, like the worst Shein cheapie. Not nearly enough fabric used.

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/07/2025 10:59

Paul's made to measure didn't fit, didn't fit the brief and was badly made. He was arrogant and deliberately ignored advice. I had high hopes for him after Episode 1 but he deserved to go last week.

HotCrossBunplease · 30/07/2025 11:17

The sewer cut a huge chunk of fabric off the JLo dress at the last minute, I didn’t understand why he did that! It was indeed sub-Shein. And the Grecian dress was like a bad Amazon fancy dress outfit.

OrangeAndPistachio · 30/07/2025 12:16

Yeah , the way Dan made the front split of his jlo/geri dress was very concerning! I can only assume that he was running out of time after finding the bodice challenging and panicked. I hope he's calmer next week.

upinaballoon · 30/07/2025 13:15

Why does Esme say 'crutch'? Maybe because she belongs to my generation.

From an earlier generation, one woman, born 1916, looked at her aunt's bloomers hanging on the washing line, and said to her cousin, also born in 1916, "Gold dust in the crutch." I was in the same room and heard this so I can vouch for the fact that two women at least, both sewers at home, used the term 'crutch'.

Edit to say that I have now seen that someone else answered this, too. Just generational, I think.

Nara2k · 30/07/2025 17:44

I thought there were a lot of really nice garments this week, I'm curious whether Kit made his own skirt - I liked it a lot (his comment about it did make me think of the HP character who liked the 'air round his privates') 😂

BestIsWest · 30/07/2025 18:01

Kit did make his own skirt. He’s put something on insta about it as someone asked him about it. I liked it a lot too.
I like men in skirts in general.

HotCrossBunplease · 30/07/2025 18:23

Men in skirts is really normal if you’re Scottish. I mean, most kilt-wearing men would not wear any other sort of skirt but the concept of a man in a skirt type garment isn’t really a big deal. Kit’s denim one was quite masculine anyway. His model’s dress was a bit more out there, with the hairy legs under the ruffles!

HotCrossBunplease · 30/07/2025 18:24

His fur coat thing was an abomination though!

It absolutely was!

Why not? Women wear trousers. A kilt is just a type of skirt, and it's a beautiful garment on a man.

Really enjoying this series. I'd love Kaz to win, but they are all good!

But this wasn't a kilt, it was a full on party dress on a bearded man and he look ridiculous,

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/07/2025 18:54

Well, we'll have to disagree on this. I feel very strongly that if we as women want to be free to wear anything we like we should accept the same from men. In the end, it's all just pieces of cloth cut up and sewn together in different ways.

LadyAddle · 30/07/2025 19:23

HotCrossBunplease · 30/07/2025 07:58

People of that generation do say “crutch”, my granny did.

I say crutch for clothes, but crotch for trees. Granny age, and Scottish - could it be regional too?

Yes - also regional. I'm in the Midlands and would usually say crotch for clothes but 'crook' for tree, same as the crook of your elbow. I think they all share an origin.

FitAt50 · 30/07/2025 18:49

But this wasn't a kilt, it was a full on party dress on a bearded man and he look ridiculous,

Lie down in a darkened room with flannel over your head then, to recover from the abomination of a gentleman in a skirt.

The rest of us can enjoy a flamboyant dresser and creative and skilled sewer in an enjoyable and lighthearted a programme that doesn’t dictate who is allowed to wear certain garments. Men in skirts can absolutely rock - I’ve seen plenty of women look more ridiculous in a skirt.

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/07/2025 21:25

FitAt50 · 30/07/2025 18:49

I think that dress looked completely wrong but Kit's skirt was fine.

Piggywaspushed · 30/07/2025 21:40

I, too, am not bothered by the dress or any of it but , just asking, was Kit hamstrung at all by having a male model? (or two!) ? He may well have chosen a skirt or dress anyway (and I quite liked the top, actually ) but the look would have worked better as a Westwood or Gaultier thing with a kilt perhaps (the redheaded model would have looked brilliant in a kilt get up!). Did Versace ever design for men? I've only ever seen Versace on women.

Victoriawould24 · 30/07/2025 21:49

I’m glad PP also noticed the tie man looking like Patrick.
It was making me cringe a bit because I thought he was dressed in a shirt and tie to highlight it more hoping it’d get noticed 🥴

Victoriawould24 · 30/07/2025 21:57

I’m predicting Kit and Caz in the final.
Kit reminds me of a small child that’s been AI’d into a man (I mean this in an endearing way).

Nara2k · 30/07/2025 08:30

Do you follow vibes and scribes on sm (huge craft shop in Cork, online and b&m) they claimed Dan as their own at the start of the series, don't think they said on what basis? I assumed co-worker, but maybe it's customer?

I order from them online a fair bit, they carry a vast range of all sorts of stuff, but I haven't followed them on social media. I'll have a look.

Crutch is the English traditional pronunciation. Crotch is the American way. But the edges of our languages has become blurred.

Hiddendoor · 30/07/2025 22:30

I think the problem with Kit's made to measure was that the skirt was either too short, or if kept that length was too plain.

Having a plain short skirt plus black school shoes meant it looked like the model was wearing someone else's clothes rather than something made for him.

I think some tucks like caz's skirt could have elevated Kit's skirt and possibly brought some of the gold out to prominence too.

I’m fairly sure Elton John wore a lot of Versace. Heavily embroidered jackets, that sort of thing.

BotterMon · 30/07/2025 23:01

Has Esme always been so negative with her comments? Caz is brilliant!
