I’m sure Steve didn’t use to have that dreadful fake Brooklyn accent in the early episodes. It got more and more ludicrous as the seasons went on.

Piffle11 · 29/07/2025 19:53

I think they deliberately made Steve as annoying as possible in order to justify Miranda‘s affair. The scene where Steve met Nya for the first time: I remember thinking, what on earth is going on with his accent? He was so weird and embarrassing… Steve was always kind of sweet and friendly. I know we change as we get older, but I think they deliberately made him into an annoying prick.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2025 20:21

And his deafness -hearing aids

Doubleraspberry · 29/07/2025 21:56

The actor is deaf so that bit is not the show’s choice.

I know everybody hates Steve but I like him apart from the skidmarks and the affair. ( But all of them have had affairs).

I remember being so pissed about Steve's affair in the first movie. It was so out of character for him, and felt shoe-horned in to give Miranda a storyline. He was one of the best guys in SATC.

I don’t think he is. He has some hearing loss and that’s why they wrote it into the show.

I agree, and to make it even worse, everybody blamed Miranda for it!

Edited

Sorry, I shouldn't have said deaf. But yes, those are his own hearing aids because of his hearing loss.

But why is the kitchen so small for a house of that size?

I think Carrie only has two floors so probably the kitchen would have been in the basement and that small kitchen would be a servant’s serving kitchen. But you’d think with a conversion and rooms of that size, you could easily lose a bit of dining room!

greengreyblue · 30/07/2025 14:30

The video says they didn’t build the upstairs set until series 3 . Interesting to see how it will be furnished going forward and what they call a butler area as you enter the kitchen. Don’t think we’ve seen that yet.

For sure, the bit where Duncan lives which has its own entrance etc was the kitchen/servants quarters and there would have been no kitchen at all in the part where Carrie lives. Servants and staff would have used the basement entrance to enter and exit and greet guests at the main door. If you think of that Grammercy Park house as like the one in The Gilded age where Ada and Agnes live, the family are always on that ground floor level reception, and the servants cook and manage everything via the basement and try to avoid contact with the household (minus personal staff). Certain staff should not be seen or heard at all unless specifically requested. Like house elves, to bring another series into the mix!

We saw it during the party? It was fully of dark wood cabinetry. Scenes where Harry/Charlotte enquire about who knows about the cancer.

I don't think Carrie is worried about the size of the Kitchen as she never cooks. Big did all of the the cooking and she did a tiny bit of prep when they were talking about getting married in SATC movie 1.
Big cooked osso busso in SATC movie 2 when they were celebrating thier anniversary. I only remember this as I watched both movies last week.

'We finally reached the end of the first series of Succession at the weekend'

Oh you have so much good stuff to come! It's one of my favourite TV shows ever. The writing is at the polar opposite end of the spectrum to AJLT

I couldn't even finish "Succession" My ex (son's dad) had a 4 hour podcast in real life with me, mansplaining it all despite the fact we never watched it together & had broken up many, many years prior.. he just can't help himself, another timely reminder of why he's my ex 😊

I agree the English characters are one-dimensional, perhaps because they barely feature so we can't 'know' them yet. I don't think having these short episodes - 27 minutes this week - was a good choice.

Episode nine was another mostly forgettable one. I can't get invested in Aidan and Carrie because they're so ill-suited. The most interesting thing was the way Carrie had her hair in the last scene.

Anthony and Gia's relationship is tedious and predictable, and I get the feeling Patti LuPone's heart isn't in this really, she seems a bit underpowered or vacant. But now that Gia has threatened to financially cut off Giuseppe, I wonder if Anthony will soon get his heart broken - Giuseppe's facial expression seemed to say he's going to take the money and run.

I'm kind of glad there's only three episodes left until it finishes.

Hard agree... & I NEVER say that!

Dita73 · 31/07/2025 03:58

If a man spoke to me the way Aiden snapped at Carrie to take a shower,he’d be nursing a set of bollocks that hurt more then Harry’s

Too right!!!

The way he said, urgh, get away from me. In her own bed! I know smoke stinks, but there’s nicer ways to go about it.

This is the thing with the writers though: they clearly wanted a reason to split Carrie and Aidan up, but they’ve been so heavy-handed about it. That is got to the point where we’re all thinking, why the hell is she with this dickhead?

I still maintain that the story arc concerns what happens when you are lonely, you are a youngish widow, and someone you treated badly gets back in touch with you and you have an opportunity to rectify your own wrongdoing. Carrie always knew that Aiden detested smoking so that did ring true for me, and I think she was so keen to please him so that she was no longer on her own that she overlooked some serious red flags.

Maybe … I think she put up with more because she probably felt guilty from cheating on him previously.

I just felt like they made him into such a twat that he got to the point where it didn’t ring true anymore. The thing with Aiden, for me, is that he was never a bad person. They weren’t right for each other, and she used to get annoyed with him for eating fried chicken in his pants while she was out clubbing. And now she’s prepared to put up with him sleeping with his ex, telling her what to do in her own house, attempting to control her interaction with Duncan, dictating how their relationship will go.

I remember listening to John Cusack talk about the film Serendipity: Both men characters are engaged to other people – ironically John Corbett and Bridget Moynahan - and he said that if they hadn’t been good people then it wouldn’t ring true. And that’s the thing with this Aiden: there’s nothing likeable about him. They’ve completely erased the old Aiden.

but I guess if she dumped Aiden six episodes ago, we wouldn’t still be so invested 🤣

Newgirls · 31/07/2025 13:53

I think Aiden was likeable in some ways - light hearted, big hugs, good looking, family man, turns up to her mates dad funeral etc so not a terrible person but not right for Carrie. It’s more interesting that way as we see on threads here there are usually redeeming qualities which is why they dont get binned fast enough

workshy46 · 31/07/2025 17:27

What I don't understand is apart from Carrie and Anthony all the others have totally forgotten how to act. The script is rubbish but Charlotte and Miranda were good back in the day, they are just so bloody awful now. Even in the movies they were miles better. Cant see how it can go on, they simply have zero stories to tell.

ILoveBrum · 31/07/2025 17:48

There was nothing likeable about the old Aidan either though @Piffle11 - he was always trying to change Carrie & was never able to accept her. Plus he was so self-righteous! He didn’t deserve to be cheated on but otherwise he was not a guy you’d want to be with.
