Have you been watching AJLT long?!

Sadly, yes. More out of loyalty to SATC than anything else. And your point is…?

ETA I get what you’re saying now…

That querying why we have a storyline that is a bit odd and not entertaining felt like someone with higher expectations than many of us!

westisbest1982 · 25/07/2025 21:22

I suppose I want to like it more than I do, given how invested I was in SATC. But the writing is always so lame - maybe HBO have spent much of the budget on other elements.

Doubleraspberry · 25/07/2025 21:27

The writing is appalling. I think there are some decent writers on it but there is so little continuity from the SATC characterisation and the storylines and new characters are just so often weak. And Michael Patrick King is too convinced of his own brilliance. How on earth in the space of just three series can you kill the same character off twice? It’s either laziness or contempt for viewers.

She knew he wanted to get to know Duncan because he didn’t trust her. It was him trying to police her.

Absolutely this. I had an ex like this, if ever he felt I was too close to any man (including work colleagues, friends) he would come swooping in exactly like Aidan did. It's all masculine posturing and the equivalent of peeing all around 'his' woman.

Past Carrie would have ignored these particular red flags. Not now though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/07/2025 23:28

I am so surprised she didn’t say I was faithful

you shagged your ex wife and I forgave you

loved shoes cat tree perch thing

joy was lovely with her baggage

Charlotte funny falling over and least we know harry had his surgery

Anthony was fab tho surprised what a small shitty apartment he lives in considering how well his business was doing

let’s hope gia leaves them alone now

and ozampic mentioned a couple of times

obv the crystal rock deodorant didn’t work

and I wouldn’t want arm pit love. I’m tigglish

helloquitty · 25/07/2025 23:32

Loved the Taylor song at the end !! Carrie is looking stunning this serious.

Wildbird12 · 25/07/2025 23:45

Who leaves steak out over night??!! That's my lasting thoughts after this episode..

Doubleraspberry · 25/07/2025 19:57

They live next door to each other.

I don’t think so. His photos show him to live on a massive modern apartment high up. I know he has moved recently unless he’s moved into a house?

Doubleraspberry · 26/07/2025 00:25

They lived next to each other a couple of years ago - he may have moved since?

EachandEveryone · 26/07/2025 01:11

He’s just moved now. He had a big thing about it on Instagram saying goodbye to the door men etc. I don’t know if I like him or not. He seems to be a good dad though. Funny how both of them used surrogates. I’m so against it but it seems to be the norm there.

Doubleraspberry · 25/07/2025 12:39

I felt the last two episodes should have been one 30-45 min one with fluff cut out.

Chippendales isn't a nightclub. The editing discussions on the inner thoughts of child Margaret were painful.I found myself wondering what habits he picked up while writing about Henry VIII. Throwing chicken legs over his shoulder as he wrote? And I'd be astonished if half of her cabinet members over the years smoked pipes - that felt like someone's AI googling gone wrong. I think they've just created such a poor character for Duncan that they can't write that it makes it impossible now for that storyline NOT to ring false.

Shoes/rugs/on/off etc.

But mostly thank fuck for that, and the break up was very well done. And they did leave us thinking she was going to take the crap for quite a long time.

Clearly Seema is now The friend for Carrie, rather than the gang. I did feel a bit forlorn that we didn't get them together except through a window. I wonder if they're struggling to write them.

I think Harry told Charlotte she wasn't meant to move about until the pills kicked in, so presumably they then did.

Miranda and Joy - lovely again. The relationship Miranda has always needed.

Ozempic is totally mainstream in the US. I liked that line (and frankly was rather wondering myself before she said it why he wasn't!). And a reminder that the election still looms.

Chippendales was actually a nightclub in LA. It was the place that the make dance Troupe was formed. There was a really great series on Disney+ about it all.

Just catching up.. Aidan looks old, I'm aware most people age (not I of course) but even since the last episode he was in...

Edit spelling

Also it kind of jarred @Netaporter that she called Big "John" I might be nitpicking but he was always "Big" maybe new friends, nicknames make no sense?

Edited

Tbf, I think he was John a lot in AJLT - especially s1 (for obvious reasons). I’m hoping I was right and this storyline turns into an arc about how grief affects people - because they are some rose-tinted specs Carrie has been wearing about Aidan and their history..!

I thought Anthony would have a bigger space because didn't Stanford leave him everything when he went off to become a monk or something.
Gia was awful and I'm glad he had a go but I think Giuseppe will flee without his mums cash.
BBBBBYE! Aiden, at last Carrie has come to her senses. I didn't care about the steak being left out, it just shows that money dosnt matter to either of them.
Yes Selma shouldn't wear heels she looked a bit bandy when she was going down the stairs to the Ladies , and why did she say "I'm not that women" what women was she referring to when she was quickly putting under arm roll on. We have all done that before I'm sure.
Why did Charlotte fall on the floor when the bed was so close, and Harry seems to have had a jokey vasectomy that is always portrayed in comedy shows rather than a prostrate op.
Loved Carrie's green dress at the beginning and her gorgeous dressing gown at the end. No matter how silly some of her costumes are she never looks like "mutton dressed as lamb", if you know what I mean. Classy.
Very short episode again, just got every one in.
Didn't like Selmas assistant what was that all about. Let's put him/ she in a skirt. I think they are trying too hard to be cool and trendy, when sometimes its just silly.

Anthony’s apartment is rent controlled. No one gives those up.

‘I’m not that woman’ referred to the previous episode where there was a woman applying deodorant in public.

Not in London though! Duncan wouldn’t think of an LA nightclub when Aidan was visiting the UK. It’s just poor research again. Which no one American would recognise I know.

Doubleraspberry · 26/07/2025 08:17

I have just seen elsewhere something that does make me want to applaud the writers. The contrast between Miranda and Joy’s honest mature conversation about Joy’s emotional baggage and Miranda saying that she has room, and Aidan’s huge heavy luggage which he moves into Carrie’s house, that she carries the most of, refusing to tell her what’s in it, that they then argue over where to keep. I think that’s really very clever and I hope it’s deliberate.

greengreyblue · 26/07/2025 08:21

Seema was referring to the woman that applied roll-on deodorant at a restaurant table. But outside a loo is hardly shocking. The young woman would not have raised an eyebrow at that.

I downloaded it after the show.

GellerYeller · 26/07/2025 08:23

The green outfit veered too far into comedy costume territory for me.
I also wondered if Anthony had been left loads by Stanford- who had a Chanel clad gran and came from money, didn’t he- did he spend his entire fortune on their OTT wedding? I take the point about rent control though.
I want them to being Samantha back from London so she can correct all the lazy Brit tropes they’ve attached to Duncan! Wishful thinking, I know.

He and Stanford were living in a nice apartment at the start of the first series IIRC, when we saw them dressing for Big’s funeral.

Maybe Anthony sublet his rent controlled place and moved back in when Stanford became a monk….

Or maybe it’s just another continuity error because despite all the blather on the podcast about the care they take, they take none at all!

Didntask · 26/07/2025 09:05

Aiden was so aggressive in this episode. So glad she's finally sacked him off!

I missed the mention of John / big

when was it and what was said
