Finally got to watch it last night. I enjoyed it, although my husband didn’t (but then he also didn’t recognise Emily, or the Waterford’s house , or remember any of the stuff that linked back to the beginning so I guess if you don’t remember that, it’s less impactful).
I’m pleased they didn’t wrap it all up in a nice little bow, because realistically, that’s not how something as huge as Gilead would or could end.
What I liked:
All of the season 1 references
Seeing Emily back and learning what she had been doing
June being able to forgive Serena which will help June to be able to move on.
June & Luke realising that everything’s changed and that their relationship isn’t what it was and never can be again. Accepting they needed to move on and see if down the line their paths reconvene when they finally get Hannah back.
That Janine got her rescue and her daughter back
June’s comment about Lydia having “nine fucking lives” when she heard she had somehow survived again - saying what we were all thinking! Also ironic coming from her….
What I didn’t like/had questions on/didn’t really work:
Naomi. I thought to start with she was turning herself over to the US and maybe part of the agreement was she gave Charlotte back to Janine - but then she turned back round to go to Gilead? If they’d spent the season building up to it, showing her feeling guilty or something I would have found it more believable. That said, the season did show us that she seemed to find motherhood challenging.
Not seeing what Moira was doing next.
Would have been nice to find out what happened to Esther, but from what I understand there was a clash of availability that made it impossible. I know the actress had said she wanted to come back.
I’d have liked to have seen Rose’s reaction to the news about her father and husband. In fact actually seeing any sort of Gilead reaction to the bombing and taking of Boston!
Why was a refugee camp telling Serena they weren’t really allowed children there? That makes absolutely no sense!
Where was the refugee centre located?
I’m on the fence about Hannah. I completely get why they didn’t have them reunite. But at the same time it would have been nice to see something about her that tells us either she remembers June, remembers who she is, or that she’s trying to make her own escape plan or even just showing us where she actually was! The whole season has had a disappointing lack of Hannah.
