The US flag now has three stars - Hawaii, Alaska and Massachusetts. It is still Gilead in the rest of the country.

CruCru · 07/07/2025 13:17

Hannah is moving to Washington DC but that is about 400 miles south of Boston.

OnTheBoardwalk · 07/07/2025 13:17

They’ve liberated Massachusetts, New York, Ohio and Kansas as well by episode 10

june is hoping for Colorado next, I think that’s where Hannah is??

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/07/2025 13:34

Oh. So only one state /area of USA that is free

OP posts:
CruCru · 07/07/2025 13:40

I thought they were aiming for New York, etc next but hadn’t yet succeeded.

Oh @Soubriquetthat would be quite the ending. And possibly more realistic !!!

FloofyBird · 07/07/2025 14:36

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/07/2025 09:05

She has her baby. That’s all she wanted

I'm not convinced, June said being a mum was enough, but at the end it was like Serena was trying to convince herself of that but didn't really feel that way. I think she needs to feel powerful in some other way.

HaddyAbrams · 07/07/2025 14:37

I really liked the ending, but having read TT, I knew they weren't going to get Hannah out.

I loved that it came full circle with June's speech being the exact one she made at the beginning.

I am cross that we don't know what happened to Esther though. That was annoying.

InterestedBeing · 07/07/2025 14:45

Esther was a very minor character. I'd guess her baby adopted and her in a facility for the rest of her life.

deeahgwitch · 07/07/2025 14:49

I agree with you @FloofyBird
It sounded like Serena was trying to convince herself.

Flicitytricity · 07/07/2025 15:39

Quite honestly, I thought the whole episode was dire, just wrong somehow, save 2 moments.
Emily.
The very last scene.
The rest of it was boring.

I'm glad others enjoyed it and we're moved by it, but I agree with whoever said it was like the last episode of Lost😒

I listened to The Testaments a while ago, and remember enjoying it, so will revisit that.

dudsville · 07/07/2025 15:42

Thanks for the thread, I'd forgotten about Testaments, I have a vague recollection, will get it out. But even though I'd forgotten about testaments, as much as I wanted the reunion with Hannah, I thought it wouldn't have made sense, there was still so much Gilead that needed to be conquered. And I think they gave us the reunion with Janine and her girl to make up for that.

I liked the bit about Serena being given the bed, table, etc., they said something like "It's all you should need", referencing the start, and then Serena goes on that long bit about the baby being all she ever wanted. I actually thought this was her trying to self soothe. She wanted to be queen of Gilead, now "all" she will be is the child's mother, which June had also just told her to be thankful for. I think in that scene she's sitting with disappointment, in the same way that all the handmaids had lost all hope of being anything more or in addition to one thing.

But, I've been reading the thread because I have a question! Apologies for not recalling names of characters. In the episode where they've all had cake and are sleeping and handmaids are killing folks, isn't there a darkly lit scene where serena's new husband's handmaid walks up behind him with her knife? He's alive shortly after, so it bugs me not to know what happened there. Especially as that poor handmaid seemed so young and vulnerable. But maybe it was just a generic handmaid and commander?

Also, did anyone else felt creeped out by the ... can't remember his name or find it up thread, the lead guy of the resistance, June says "captain" and he corrects her to "commander, actually". Obviously he's not a gilead member, but it reminded me about how we can't just reax and feel safe 100% of the time, how not all men capable of causing harm look like a baddie.

It wasn't Serena's husband, just a random Commander.

Isitsticky · 07/07/2025 16:53

Is this a false memory or did Emily and June originally meet as handmaids outside the ex ice cream parlour, and Emily said the same thing about it?

Eldermileniummam · 07/07/2025 17:02

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/07/2025 13:11

So if there is no more gilead and commanders

why is hannah still a prisoner as such

is there is not an issue with fertility any more why are they training /keeping teens to marry/be raped

and why is there a follow up TT where hannah is still apparently is

They killed the Boston commanders but the rest of Gilead is still going

viques · 07/07/2025 17:02

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/07/2025 16:50

It wasn't Serena's husband, just a random Commander.

It was Tuello. Who has popped up in various guises but only now admitted to being military rather than political.

Yes I think so as I was sure I'd seen the scene before

That was Tuello I think you mean but he's not a Gilead commander

I think they've referenced the reversal of the fertility problem and if I recall it was mostly put down to the work in the colonies cleaning up the environment. But let's face it, the reason they are still training wives and handmaid's is because it was never really about fertility and all about mens power over women. If they say its all in the name of increasing the birth rate they get the support of women in creating their patriarchy (ie, Serena, Naomi, Lydia etc).

It’s in s1 e1

they are outside it and she talks about ice cream. Amazing

There are lots of echoes in the final episode. We've seen them at the fair and the aquarium before. In S1, episode 9, when June is trying to stop Janine from jumping with the baby, they talk about going out for a drink and singing karaoke when all this is over. 😪

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/07/2025 17:54

In the other thread, someone said that the main writer had always had parts of the last episode planned out.

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 07/07/2025 17:55

Janine had spent more time than most with her baby. She stayed with her in the commander's house (can't remember his name). So I do think the child would remember her.

Buiderswoe · 07/07/2025 18:18

Right just caught up with the last 2 episodes…/
episode 9 I didn’t like at all…I am not sure why. I liked Lawrence coming good, being so lovely to Charlotte and his gesture to June as he got on the plane. I still feel like Nick deserves some sympathy - he’s was a tortured soul. Even his fake bravado on the plane didn’t sit well with him. The plot holes were ridiculous though. The hanging scene and June just casually driving into an airfield and hanging about watching? Please…it was so unbelievable it spoiled my enjoyment.
episode 10 I actually liked better. Serena apologising to June and June forgiving her…telling herself that Noah was all she needed (unconvincingly). Luke FINALLY coming into his own - I liked the fact that they separated. Loved Emily’s cameo return. Loved Janine reuniting with Charlotte and Naomi…she did seem genuine at the end…but who knows what she is now facing in Gilead.
overall glad I persisted but totally agree with many on this threat that season 6 was not a patch on seasons 1-4.
