Be totally crap and wonder why we have just spent the last 10hrs of our lives watching s6

Thing I've realised what you mean

It starts with the same bit where she introduced herself as Offred

I see that because the book is her memoir. All of what we just watched is the book and this shows her getting to that point and starting to tell the story

Yes.

I didn't think they needed to signpost that quite so blatantly, however, by having both Holly and Luke telling June that she should write a book.

Eldermileniummam · 06/07/2025 23:05

I agree

The previous episode was so much better than this one but I kinda felt like this was a gift to fans with Emily and then Janine getting Charlotte / Angela back. I felt sad for them about Hannah but I think she's still in Gilead in the Testaments so they couldn't have her rescued.

I didn't understand Luke and June going to find Hannah separately and was about to say the same thing. Maybe they just needed to go their separate ways but still didn't make sense if they have the same aim.

the ending was e1 in s1

I may be being slow but don't understand what you mean by this!

What she says in the room at the end is what she says in s1 e1 when she went to the Waterford’s

I liked the fact that Serena got a bed, a chair and a table.

Yes. That was good.

I missed that!

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 06/07/2025 23:22

I wondered at the 2 Hollies coming down from Alaska at all, since she was going to leave them again!

There hasn't been much subtlety in this series.

dapsnotplimsolls · 06/07/2025 23:27

Is it too soon for favourite moments? One of my top ten has to be Moira escaping and meeting up with Luke because she's on his list of 'family' 😢

Yeah I thought that. Wasn’t needed imo

peanutbuttertoasty · 06/07/2025 23:47

I agree about Holly coming. Hardly feels safer than Alaska??!! Also annoying how little mention Nicole got. That child is going to have some serious attachment issues.

I missed where Serena got on a bus to… where was that supposed to be?

peanutbuttertoasty · 06/07/2025 23:48

Also annoyed me how Luke didn’t really acknowledge that June basically killed Nick. I’d have thought that might be kind of a big deal

Pemba · 06/07/2025 23:48

They couldn't reunite June with Hannah, because Hannah features in The Testaments, living in Gilead. Yes it's really sad but like real life, people don't always get a happy ending. And I suppose it could still happen in the Testaments!

I don't feel as though she's abandoned baby Holly, she's with her grandmother who loves her. And she needs to keep fighting to get Hannah back, and to help destroy Gilead in order to make things safe for her daughters and everyones daughter.

It was so wonderful that poor old Janine got her daughter back after all her suffering, so that was like a stand-in for June and Hannah in a way.

It was good that Naomi did the right thing by relinquishing Angela/Charlotte. But to be honest, I don't think she was that attached to her really. She just wanted a child as a status symbol and seemed to leave most of the childcare to the Marthas. I remember her being very impatient with the child. Lawrence was far more loving and he'd only known Charlotte for a few months surely. He would have been a good father.

To be honest Naomi was an unpleasant woman and also not that bright. She was mean and vindictive towards the handmaids and especially Janine. She was a good match for the horrible Putnam, but Lawrence deserved better than her.

dapsnotplimsolls · 06/07/2025 23:52

Naomi was horrible.

My favourite scenes are season 1 when Luke gets June's note from the Mexican delegation and also when June is going shopping expects to see Emily but it is fact the new Ofglen accompanied Simply Minds Don't You. Also I think its season 3 when June kills Commander Wilmslow and the Martha's clean up his body.

But yes very disappointing finale. How come Lydia is still alive. Last we saw Gilead was going to execute her so how has she managed to escape death. Also Naomi telling Charlotte/Angela she loved her when she was nothing but horrible to her. Also June was able to safely walk around a derelict house? As if you would.

Are we allowed to talk about The Testaments now?

Those are great moments too.

Crinkle77 · 06/07/2025 23:59

The imaginary sequence was rather optimistic about how life would have been for the women had Gilead not happened. I recall that at the beginning of the series, Janine was an addict and initially glad just to be fed at the Red Centre (before she realised just how bad things were).

Was Janine an addict? I remember the new Ofglen having a go at June because she used to be an addict before Gilead but now she had a home where they were nice to her and she didn't want June to spoil things for her. She was the one that then went on to detonate the bomb in season 2 or 3 killing a load of commanders.

Maybe I'm totally mixed up, then.

bobbinrobinbobbin · 07/07/2025 00:25

What happened to Ava?

I found that really underwhelming. I realised I didn’t actually like anyone left in it apart from Serena. Far too much slow motion and close ups of smiling. I’m glad they have freedom finally but it doesn’t half make for boring viewing.

JewelleryCat · 07/07/2025 00:53

@peanutbuttertoasty Serena got on the bus to the UN refugee camp so Tuello must have sorted that because Serena mentioned she had no passports

This is why I think that the ending should have been one or two years later because we still have all these unanswered questions

InTheWindow · 07/07/2025 02:03

Given how Serena keeps offending people and dropping back into Gilead speak I was quite worried about how she and Noah might fair in a refugee camp. Surely there’s a chance she’ll be recognised like she was on the train and not manage to get herself out of bother. Although I suppose the perfect June gave her a pep talk just before she left so now she will instantly be reformed.

I was really disappointed in the final episode, and much of the final series. So slow in places, then rushed in others and the never ending shots of (mainly June’s) expressions were so overdone. They had a place in the early seasons as often characters were reliant on facial expressions to communicate, but they could just have talked more once they had escaped. I was actually tempted to fast forward parts of this episode. Too many near perfect resolutions with no explanation as well, nice as it was to see them.

Olivesforteatonighty · 07/07/2025 03:10

When June was day dreaming about being out with the handmaids, was that Stevie Nicks singing?

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/07/2025 03:17

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/07/2025 23:04

Also means I now need to watch the testaments when it’s on

and will get pulled into that

but why was the testaments written 15yrs later

The Testaments was written due to the TV series of THT, which caused new interest - people wanting to know what happened next.

So Atwood wrote The Testaments to wrap things up and will have done so with a mind to that also potentially becoming a TV series and that is why THT hasn't wrapped everything up... Which annoyingly meant that anyone who read The Testaments wayyyyy before THT series ended, will have been pretty confident that we would not see Hannah rescued at the end.

EBearhug · 07/07/2025 06:11

But even if we haven't read TT, I think it would have been too neat for June to get Hannah back, as well as Janine and Charlotte and all the other neatly tied up ends.

TeenToTwenties · 07/07/2025 07:13

I thought the episode was a bit weird but it sets things up quite well for a The Testaments series, so I am looking forward to that.
