New drama starts 18th June for 6 episodes on itv

Rose Ayling-Ellis leads the cast of ITV's "groundbreaking" new crime drama Code of Silence, playing a police canteen worker and skilled lip reader, whose skills are called upon for a perilous undercover operation.

Created by Hijack’s Catherine Moulton, the six-part series stars Strictly Come Dancing (https://www.digitalspy.com/strictly-come-dancing/) winner Rose Ayling-Ellis (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/reality-tv/a62071943/rose-ayling-ellis-family-connection-eastenders/)
in the lead role of Alison Woods, a deaf woman who has spent years working in a police canteen and secretly observing conversations.

The Strictly Come Dancing (https://www.yours.co.uk/leisure/celebrity-tv/bbc-news-strictly-come-dancing/) winner plays Alison, who finds herself embroiled in a high-stakes undercover operation. As the tension builds, her character faces dangerous challenges while trying to navigate a world of secrecy and deception.

Alison's life takes an unexpected turn when her lip-reading skills catch the attention of DS Ashleigh Francis (Ritchie) and DI James Marsh (Andrew Buchan), who recruit her for a covert operation in which she must surveil a dangerous gang who are plotting a high-stakes heist.

She’s struggling to make ends meet, juggling two jobs, in a police canteen and a local bar, while also doing her best to support her Deaf mum, Julie.

When DC Ashleigh Francis calls on Alison to lip-read the conversations of some dangerous criminals, she is plunged into a new and exhilarating world." the ITV synopsis teases.

Alison’s interpretation of the gang's clandestine meetings quickly become key to unlocking the police investigation.

But Alison's feelings about the case become complicated when she finds herself drawn to Liam, one of the main suspects.

Alison knows she's putting herself at risk by agreeing to work with the police, and when things threaten to spill over into her personal life, she knows she should step away. But Alison can’t let go…"

Could Liam be an undercover rogue cop?

Fleamaker · 20/05/2025 14:36

There's something not right about him...he keeps giving funny looks after he's spoken to her, but I can't decide whether he's hiding something or it's bad acting

Looks a lot better than that Protection bollocks which was on a while ago

Protection was embarrassingly bad, I felt sorry for Siobhan Finneran. What possessed a good actress to get involved in such tosh?

Oh I hope so
she she obv likes him but it can’t go anywhere if he is a crim

that would be perfect

and makes sense and sure he did see/delete the text

I've noticed funny looks from Liam too, there's more to him than meets the eye , I think.

It's great that they're making dramas with a deaf person as the lead , Reunion was another one on BBC.

I'm quite enjoying this but it's not as good as thought it would be ~ got fooled by the never ending trailers !

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2025 12:56

Oh I’m enjoying it @butterpuffed

I'm not sure he did see delete the text. But he knows she can lip read and that's worrying.

ETA. I don't think she does like him, because if she did there would be sexy scenes by now.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 21/05/2025 18:59

Liam is a dead cert to die whilst doing something heroic.

I think he is undercover but not official. It will turn out that his sister/ex girlfriend got caught up in a previous gang job and was killed so he's out for vengeance ...

BakeOffRewatch · 21/05/2025 20:30

About to start this up - who is watching week by week? I think in the big thread some people
mentioned having worked their way through? Just checking!

moto748e · 21/05/2025 20:32

Should be everyone on this thread. Except me. I'm not watching it at all! 😄

purpleme12 · 21/05/2025 20:33

Well this thread is for watching week by week so I'm thinking the people on it will be watching week by week

JewelleryCat · 21/05/2025 20:52

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2025 22:05

I did think a pint for 6,99 was costly

Haha, I thought - at last they get the price of a pint right in the South East!

I'm really enjoying it. I love her character. She keeps doing everything she's told not to and still thinks people underestimate her. She is really believable. Joe Absalom is terrifying and he used to be so angelic.

RedBeech · 22/05/2025 21:19

Fleamaker · 20/05/2025 10:06

I think Liam knows she's working for police

I wondered if he is undercover. He's new to the gang, no police record so far. And (SPOILER if you haven't seen Ep2) he must have seen and deleted the message she sent to Charlotte Ritchie, unless she managed to delete it first.

purpleme12 · 22/05/2025 21:26

I don't get how he can have deleted the message she sent

Surely it's more likely what other people suggested, that she's got a burner phone

purpleme12 · 22/05/2025 21:48

Ok I've watched the scene again cos you made me think

I see what you mean now. Interesting

BakeOffRewatch · 22/05/2025 23:28

Watched E1 and E2 now. So the next one is Sunday?

At first I didn’t know whether to keep watching, as I found it a bit too over-done on the exposition and explaining in E1 and then her just making All The Bad Choices in E2 was infuriating, such obvious story-making! But it works as it’s entertaining, the cart are great and everything is so well done. Good TV! DH says that’s how it’s always done, E1 set the scene, E2 set the story. He really enjoyed it so we’ll keep watching together.

@ChicOliveCritic i wasn’t sure if she cycled in front of him on purpose either! I’m sure she didn’t mean to be run over, but perhaps hoping to stop him? @3smallpups yes me too, I’m just going why are you doing that they literally just told you not to Google, and I was even more annoyed with her after James shared that a member of the public died and that didn’t temper her actions at all! @moto748e I've caught up on the thread now and you did watch one episode Wink

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun - first ITV one I’m watching. I actually quite like the ad breaks, gives time to discuss with DH and can concentrate the rest of the time. Usually we start talking then miss bits.

moto748e · 22/05/2025 23:40

I've caught up on the thread now and you did watch one episode

Yeah, I did. But I couldn't get past Alison's improbable beahaviour, it all seemed a bit too cookie-cutter for me. People behaving like they'd never do IRL.

I totally agree! But I actually found the other stuff really realistic, like her being there for her mum, the stress of managing multiple jobs and facing rent increase and homelessness, being treated unfairly in employment, avoiding an ex. I can see why she’s being totally reckless - at least vicariously for the viewer - to escape that and dream a bigger purpose.

I wonder what the back story is with her dad.

I’m finding it hard to find Charlotte Ritchie believable in the role but I love Ghosts and watch it a lot.

moto748e · 23/05/2025 01:20

Catch you on the next one, @BakeOffRewatch ! 😀

placemats · 24/05/2025 11:19

Thank you @BakeOffRewatch I was wondering where I'd seen the female detective before. I love Ghosts and there's now the possibility of a film (saw this on Facebook so don't quote me!).

I thought her being knocked off her bike was showing one of the effects of her deafness - that she couldnt hear a car behind her> I have a wing mirrowe on my bike because of that!
