On in about 15 mins, anyone planning to watch?

I watched it, I don’t mind a bit of mindless stuff like this tbh. I like Stacey but I didnt see a whole lot of appreciation from her about how incredibly lucky she’s been. Yes she works hard and is very organised but she’s got what she has because of her celebrity and it seemed to be presented as purely hard graft which I felt was disingenuous. May not have been her intention tbf, possible editing fault.

She is married to a manchild which must be quite difficult.

Compared to other celebs, she’s worked very hard on social media and she is super grateful on there - I don’t follow her anymore but she would say thank to her followers for every single opportunity she had, almost every day.
She also used her platform to promote many small shops and business over the years.

She’s lucky in the sense she had a platform, but many other z list celebs also had that, and she just worked relentlessly on there. All the rest followed after she gained fans on there.
And even today, I’ve been told, she’s been posting to say how lucky and grateful she is. Apparently, she had many positive messages through instagram.
She comes across as grateful and hard working.

I mean she’s got where she’s got right now because she had a level of fame already. Via X Factor and I’m a Celeb etc. What she does now with her BBC shows and lifestyle stuff is as a result of the exposure she had from that. I think she’s being presented as a smart businesswoman who has built up a small empire from nothing when it’s more that she’s exploited what fame she already had. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing or that she’s not likeable, she is. It’s great that she’s achieved what she has.

Ah, I didn't know she was being presented as a smart business woman, I didn't watch the whole programme

Well tbf she is a smart businesswoman, it’s just that she didn’t start that from nothing. It’s arguable that the truly smart thing she’s done is be able to seize on what she had and exploit her likeable qualities.

I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the viewing figures for episode 2. I’ll probably watch it. It was lighthearted and a wind down evening show that didn’t require total concentration.

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 02/04/2025 20:55

She did start from nothing though, she was a penniless 17 year old single mother. Getting as far as she did on X Factor and doing I'm a Celeb may have been the start of it but she worked for both of those and everything she has done since. She is likeable, smart and very capable.

I honestly think his being late like that (5 hours!!) was a deliberate borderline abusive stunt. He knew how important that meeting was, was repeatedly told he needed to be back, then goes awol. Nasty and deliberate. She could do so much better than him. I got the impression her dad isn’t his biggest fan either.

Yes I agree. I don’t know how she kept her patience with him there. She seems resigned to him being this way. I do wonder if the reviews will make him have a think. It’s weaponised incompetence.

abracadabra1980 · 02/04/2025 21:40

I do like a bit of mundane reality drivel and found this oddly relaxing. Same re TOWIE in its heyday. BUT, I'm so over that Essex drawl of an accent. And Joe simply has an unbearable one. He'd give me the ICK if I had to listen to that horrendous accent for the rest of my life.

Totallybannanas · 02/04/2025 21:51

II don’t understand why they bother creating these programs. It only exposes them to public criticism. They have plenty of money, so there’s no real need for it. They just get greedy!

mslava · 02/04/2025 21:54

We don’t know how much money they’ve really got. They do have big expenses. Being on tv is their job.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 02/04/2025 22:21

Was their pool fenced off?

2JFDIYOLO · 02/04/2025 22:38

I love SYLO and enjoy her Insta, so I was interested to see the show. The house is gorgeous, the kids are, well, kids, with their sweet, funny, infuriating, stroppy perfectly usual kidness.

I really admire Stacey, who's created such a life for herself from challenging beginnings. And her personality, drive, kindness, humour, business acumen, tiger mama openness. Her dad seems great!

But. The more I watched it, the more 😬 I found the sperm donor. No anniversary present ready, couldn't be arsed to do the one thing she'd asked him to do, being deliberately and extravagantly late for something hugely important to her so she couldn't focus for children everywhere while he was off having fun, leaving her to do the mountain of holiday prep for the kids, refusing to accept he could be at fault. He behaves like another kid - no wonder she rather treats him as one.

It did have quite a staged feel; several cameras, casually ideal camera angles, beautifully lit, every expression carefully captured... I start to wonder if it's real - or 'reality'?

I think it had a rolling cover but not 100% sure.

The no anniversary present and being late was content for the show, otherwise what else was there?

I agree I think it was scripted for him to be late

Good grief no, and I watch channel 5 films.

Love this response 👏

WongKarCry · 03/04/2025 09:54

I'm sure Stacey is perfectly nice (Joe seems a bit thick and annoying), but I can't for the life of me think why the BBC would make a show like this. seems a bit ITVBe.

Then again, as far as I'm concerned, the only decent show the BBC has put out in years is Inside No.9, so maybe it's me that's out of touch.

Coffeeishot · 03/04/2025 09:57

I wonder if they wanted to appeal to "instageneration" and that's why the bbc made it,Stacey already works for the bbc so they might have thought it take viewers away from Itv?

Coffeeishot · 03/04/2025 09:58

OR maybe Stacey and Joe thought they were too good for Itvbe !

WongKarCry · 03/04/2025 10:32

It just seems like an odd choice for prime time BBC One, but I suppose times are changing!

Stressybetty · 03/04/2025 12:29

Thinking about Joe being hours late for her meeting. She did say to him on the phone if he wasn't going to be back for 10am she'd need to change the time then after she hung up said to camera he's not going to be back for 10am is he? If it were me I'd have reduced the risk and pushed the meeting to later in the day and not told him. I know that's not the point and he really let her down with something very important to her but if it were possible that's what I'd have done to save myself the worry.

HectorPlasm · 03/04/2025 13:10

Their grating voices! She sounds like she has a mouthful of food and he sounds like a sub-par Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins.

the80sweregreat · 03/04/2025 13:13

I’d also prefer more ‘ inside number 9’ too, but I suppose these type of shows are easier to make and film ! All about the money I guess.
I can’t imagine what the other episodes will be about though.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 03/04/2025 20:37

I haven't read the full thread so apologise if this has been said but

Where Joe's son? From before stacey? Her kids are on the show but there's no mention of him in the credits

Just starting the show now, thought I'd be able to binge it, bit annoyed that I can't

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/04/2025 20:48

I think he may have chosen not to be on it @mumofoneAlonebutokayI think he is over 18
