I was also surprised to see this on BBC. I knew it’s coming but thought it’s something for ITV/ Channel 4. I don’t watch these programmes but watched this one. It looked like an extension to her Instagram really. Nothing surprising or more revealing… I imagine her thinking I’ve already got 5m people watching my family on sm, I might as well get paid to make a programme.
To clarify, her Instagram didn’t become popular because she was presenting a perfect family life that people would aspire to, as pp said. It actually became popular because she was very open, very imperfect and very relatable. I remember her sharing photos of herself in swimming costume soon after having Rex and it became viral as a genuine body positive image. She also did a lot of dancing with a mop sort of things, lots of vinyl sticking on cupboard doors, plastic flowers and plants… Just very accessible and not done before by ‘celebs’, who usually do (did at that time) try and appear perfect.
I think if she knew she’d be so successful on SM, and consequently have all these other opportunities, may be she would have not settled for Joe Swash. But when she met him he was doing better than her and she was a young, single mum of two boys with not much of a career.
If you watch Stacey on comedy panel shows it’s easy to see how smart she is. She’s very quick and if wanted to be a comedian would definitely do well. in contrast, JS is just cringe and a bit daft.
I remember meeting people from her community, from when she was a child. They didn’t have much positive to say about her, implying things like she was more interested in boys than anything else, while at secondary school. I don’t think she had an easy childhood with her parents divorce etc. Clearly didn’t have an easy late teens/ twenties being a young mum, judged by many. I am happy she found (created) her niche and is doing so well. Not sure about the children being broadcasted but it’s not as bad as other influencers using their children, (she seems to share only snippets and doesn’t have them in front of the camera every day).
