Tuesday 13th May, BBC 2, 9pm: Abortion - The Choice.
"Five women face up to their decision to have an abortion, describing their thought processes as they made one of the most difficult choices anybody can make, and on which there can be no hard and fast agreement. Beyond the chatter, 200,000 pregnancies are terminated in the UK each year and none is anything less than tortuous and painful - as demonstrated by this poignant film."

Won't be watching that.

Twinklemegan · 12/05/2008 21:06

I can't imagine anything less tortuous and painful than watching that programme. I couldn't bear it.

Milliways · 12/05/2008 21:13

It may be worth recording and showing Teenagers? Depends how they treat "The choice".

Not to sure whether I can watch it either, I'm not religious or anything but I only agree to an abortion if the woman was raped or the baby had abnormality defects.

Buda · 12/05/2008 21:23

I dont agree with abortion in ANy circumstances at all other than if it would harm the mother and possibly kill her to carry and have the child but i will be watching to see how it is portrayed.

madamez · 12/05/2008 22:12

Oh FFS what is the point of making a programme like this. Every woman's experience is her own, every woman's choice is her own: five women do not and cannot represent 'all' women.
And while everyone is entitled to their own opinions about abortion and to make their own choices when necessary, people who campaign against abortion are woman-hating scum.

2point4kids · 12/05/2008 22:13

I am completely in favour of women having the choice, although I know full well (from friends having been in that situation) how painful making that decision can be.
It is NOT a topic that they should be making entertainment out of though

expatinscotland · 12/05/2008 22:13

Blood Sweat and Tshirts is on at the same time.

I know which one I'll be watching.

suwoo · 12/05/2008 22:16

I am pro choice (for other people) but there is no way I could actually watch someone go through the decision making process or the actual procedure. I'd be devastated and I think I would be for a long time. Too sad .

spicemonster · 12/05/2008 22:17

Great. The only people who are watching this are those who think abortion is a dreadful crime

Way to go, BBC

expatinscotland · 12/05/2008 22:22

i don't see the point in making a programme like this, either.

Milliways · 12/05/2008 22:24

I have my own opinions, but could never judge another women for hers.

I may watch (if DH not around as he couldn't watch it) just to see how the BBC handle it, and to hopefully see some different sides to the arguments.

OP posts:
TheWiltedRose · 12/05/2008 22:24

now hang on nobody has seen this yet it could be a very fair and equal sided representation i think its unfair to consider its for or against until you ave seen it.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2008 22:25

i don't care what it is, tbh, i have no interest in watching people struggle like that.

TheWiltedRose · 12/05/2008 22:30

I proberly wont watch it tbh i think if i did i would be quite upset for the rest of evening and id rather not atm

Disenchanted · 13/05/2008 09:25

Its too 'big brother-y' for me.

I understand making programmes on the subject, but watching 5 women make that descision is just bad taste.

Reality TV gone too far IMO.

edam · 13/05/2008 09:29

I'd imagine it's not 'reality TV' but a serious documentary. Sounds very interesting - why shouldn't the public be offered the chance to see what making this decision is really like? Might stop some of the more knee-jerk responses.

Btw, I agree with Madamez - anyone who thinks they have the right to tell a woman what to do with HER body is a misogynist, whether they admit it or not.

Milliways · 13/05/2008 16:33

Bump for tonight

sleepdeprivationandme · 13/05/2008 16:40

I just wonder of all those out there who say how against abortion they are, and what a terriblle thing termination is - how many of their female friends/colleagues/relatives have had a termination and know not to tell then for fear of critisism/rejection.

Choice is so important. It is hardly an easy decision for any woman to make.

I wont be watching the programme.
