My parents are staying for a few weeks and trying to find us something to watch of an evening is proving difficult.
We all like crime/thriller dramas but it seems we’ve watched different ones so everything I suggest they’ve already watched and vice versa.
My dad doesn’t like anything too emotions based eg we tried Apple Cider Vinegar and that didn’t work.
if it’s on bbc or itv they’ve probably watched it.
They also don’t like anything with loads of swearing or sex - occasional plot driven is fine.
also needs to not be a slow burn and capture them quite quickly.
Also doesn’t help that it usually takes them 10-15 mins to realise they watched something!

Defending Jacob on Apple TV

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/03/2025 18:44

Yeah but the OP says crime / thriller so presumably they like that sort of thing.

AmusedGoose · 09/03/2025 18:44

The American version of the Staircase was excellent but not sure what it was on Amazon maybe? Couldn't you just watch something again though?

Nellienooiloveyou · 09/03/2025 18:33

Ah I think they made a drama

I meant the documentary with the really family…

but if you didn’t like 🤷‍♀️

I’m just cringing at the thought of colin firth…it’s all wrong I say!

I like the documentary so much as they turned into a thriller

24 would be good..but I’m not sure OPs parents would keep up..wonder if it’s stood the test of time

beguilingeyes · 09/03/2025 18:50

It's old, but if you haven't seen it State of Play with David Morrisey is fantastic.

ElizaCBennett · 09/03/2025 18:52

How about Ludwig? A detective drama with no sex or violence

Growsomeballswoman · 09/03/2025 18:52

I've watched Frost again and they are still brilliant

I keep seeing this advertised is it good ?

Yeah it's very whatchable. I love Sam Neale but there's some v good other actors in it too.

He's incredible for his age. Must be playing a character a good deal younger than he really is.

RedRiverShore5 · 09/03/2025 19:18

The good ship murder on My5

ShriekingTrespasser · 09/03/2025 19:22

The Capture on Netflix is excellent

Stuckinarut79 · 09/03/2025 19:47

So many good ideas thank you, I’ve added a load to my list, they watch way more tv than me and have seen many of your suggestions!

we’ve done an episode and a half of Will Trent and seems to be a goer. They don’t think they’ve seen any 24 hours in police custody and I’ve only seen a few so think that’ll work as well.

Only Murders in the Building, if you have Disney.

Jewel1968 · 09/03/2025 19:59

How about something that's not a thriller? I do love a crime thriller but stumbled across Physical on Apple TV. It's hard to describe but has an 80s vibe. It really hooked me. Given the time period they might like it.

Thriller types.

Paradise on Disney is good

Under the Banner of heaven is good - was on Disney but think it might be on itv too

The English

American Primeval

Neveranynamesleft · 09/03/2025 20:00

You've probably looked through, but lots of decent stuff on bbc iplayer
The One That Got Away
Virdee
Boat Story
McMafia
And also ITVX
Unforgotten
Six Four
Payback
Without Sin

Why not try a bit of humour instead, Two Doors Down, Early Doors, The Cockfields..

The Detectorists is easy to watch and brilliant.

Artyblartfast · 09/03/2025 21:27

Early Doors is one of my absolute favourites. 😊

Neveranynamesleft · 09/03/2025 21:49

@Artyblartfast
If you haven't already seen it, you may also like Rovers series, an old one with with Craig Cash and Sue Johnstone.

Yellowtulipsdancing · 09/03/2025 22:07

Sister Boniface
Magpie Murders
The Brokenwood Mysteries - free on U

IwantToRetire · 10/03/2025 01:14

I remembered that on another thread there were suggestions for crime dramas based in Ireland. IMO some aren't as good as others ...

Cra
Blackshore
North Sea Connection
Dublin Murders
Hidden Assets
Holding
Borderline
The Vanishings

And 2 that are more mysteries and maybe a bit emotional
The Woman in the Wall
Blood

2 series which if you like looking at beautiful cities in Europe as well as intriguing plots. Very stylish and atmospheric
Vienna Blood
Prague Mysteries

Set in early 1900s(?)

colouringindoors · 11/03/2025 00:37

Just finished The Capture S1 snd S2.

S2 has one of the best twisty endings I've seen in a while.Hugely satisfying, highly recommended 😊
