My parents are staying for a few weeks and trying to find us something to watch of an evening is proving difficult.
We all like crime/thriller dramas but it seems we’ve watched different ones so everything I suggest they’ve already watched and vice versa.
My dad doesn’t like anything too emotions based eg we tried Apple Cider Vinegar and that didn’t work.
if it’s on bbc or itv they’ve probably watched it.
They also don’t like anything with loads of swearing or sex - occasional plot driven is fine.
also needs to not be a slow burn and capture them quite quickly.
Also doesn’t help that it usually takes them 10-15 mins to realise they watched something!

Red Eye (maybe ITV or Channel 5)
Nightsleeper (BBC)

Both thrillers, British, first set in a flight, second set in the sleeper train.

We really enjoyed them both.

I started nightsleeper after I convinced them it wasn’t the boring one in the snow - snowpiercer, 30 seconds in dad thinks they’ve seen it, 5 minutes in it’s confirmed!

Have they watched Happy Valley? My DH thought is was like Emmerdale or Countryfile🤣

justjuggling · 09/03/2025 17:39

I’ve just watched Toxic Town on Netflix which was eye opening and full of great acting.

Shakespeare & Hathaway is a very gentle mystery/crime series you could binge during the visit.

Rainbow1235 · 09/03/2025 17:44

The bay is a great watch but Mayb they have already seen it

Well, it was on quite recently. Thought it’s nothing like Snowpiercer!

Try Red Eye. It has the added bonus of Richard Armitage.

There are few programmes that DH and I both enjoy. We loved the series The Day of the Jackal.

Nellienooiloveyou · 09/03/2025 18:08

Would they have watched “the staircase” on Netflix..real life but like a thriller..and it’s nicely long

TickingAlongNicely · 09/03/2025 18:11

I've just started Virdee but since that's bbc they've probably watched it...

Night Agent on Netflix... First series, couldn't get into the 2nd one.

Nellienooiloveyou · 09/03/2025 18:13

Edited

Oooh yes! And The Bridge!

I don't think that either of the originals are available on iplayer at the moment but the American version of The Killing is on Channel 4 streaming, I think.

Brilliant!! Sound alike they’d need the US version

my parents loved the bridge

IwantToRetire · 09/03/2025 18:20

Have you/them watched London Kills.

Its available on BBC iPlayer. A different approach towards crime series.

Although by series 4 had so many personal plot lines it was hard to keep up.

I assume Morse, Lewis, Endeavour have all been watched. Vera.

Blue Lights although I found series 1 very emotional.

But as others have said worth checking U Drama as they have lots of series that maybe you/ they missed at the time.

Magpie Murders although series 2 not as good?

Shetland?

IwantToRetire · 09/03/2025 18:27

Do you / they like spy dramas (which are often like crime dramas)?

Just a thought as you seem to have watched quite a lot of crime series?
