ITV’s hit crime drama The Bay is back for its fifth series, bringing more mystery, drama and emotional twists to Morecambe.

The new series starts on Sunday, 2 March at 9PM on ITV1, with episodes continuing on the Monday and Tuesday.

Marsha Thomason – who took over from Morven Christie as series lead for season 3 in 2022 – will return as family liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-bay-season-4-marsha-thomason-jenn-newsupdate/)
, who will once again be tasked with investigating a shocking crime.

Meanwhile, other regular cast members back for the new season include Daniel Ryan as DI Anthony 'Tony' Manning, Erin Shanagher as DS Karen Hobson and Andrew Dowbiggin as DS James Clarke.

There are also new arrivals in the shape of Happy Valley star Olwen May and The Full Monty's Tara Lynne O’Neill, while some more returnees include Barry Sloane as Chris Fischer, Georgia Scholes as his daughter Erin, and David Carpenter and Emme Hayes as Jenn’s children Conor and Maddie.

A synopsis for the new run teases: "When 23-year-old university student Hannah is found dead on the edge of the docks, Morecambe’s MIU team has another case to solve

Jenn, who is returning to work following the death of her father, pushes aside her own grief to support Hannah’s bitterly divided family.

"With the stakes of the investigation high, Jenn and the team dig deeper into the case, uncovering hidden friendships and secret liaisons as anger rises in the student community."

I can't remember if I gave up on this series in the end....need to go back to the series 4 thread to see,

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2025 18:45

I do wonder if it's just the locals who are fans, spotting all the filming locations.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 17:35

I love watching anything local and spotting stuff

Grace is good for that

RandomMess · 02/03/2025 21:40

Will watch on catch up

PrincessScarlett · 02/03/2025 22:03

Yep I'm here.

I liked that. Shocker that he's still alive. I don't think he killed Hannah. Everyone is trying to pin it on the boyfriend saying they rowed and had problems, even her tutor.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:15

Agree. When I saw a flicker I thought omfg he’s alive

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:15

I think Hannah’s brother seemed a bit suss when he found out his sister was dead

I’m saying it’s him. Prob isn’t

I got hooked when they mentioned the sugarhouse - happy memories

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:24

I think of sugar house as sugar hut and towie 😂

I don't like Jenn at all, she seems so cold and goes from 0 to 100 with her temper, her and her partner don't even seem to like each other and series 4 was constant falling outs in their house. Looks like this series is going to be the same.

Much preferred it with Morven Christie

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:49

The ex wife didn’t help things in s4. Always letting self into house

glad they moved

PrincessScarlett · 02/03/2025 22:58

I wonder if the mum is going to replace the ex wife this series and always be at Jen's house.

I noted the nod to Ofsted inspections and head teachers being terrified of Ofsted.

Agree that Jen and her partner don't even seem to like each other very much. No chemistry either. Like the dynamics between their kids though. And liked last series when Erin had to face facts that her mum was useless and Jen wasn't actually the wicked stepmother after all.

Too early for me to guess who done it 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 23:03

We usually see all the Suspects so

family
bf

who else

There's autistic flat-mate, but he looks like an obvious red herring.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2025 02:16

Oh yes. The one who gave them bus times and exact

i don’t think it was any of the flatmates

The Ofsted thing made me laugh - 3 days notice! They give 24 hours notice irl.

PrincessScarlett · 03/03/2025 06:55

Tutor looked a bit shifty to me. Keen to deny he didn't know her very well.
