ITV’s hit crime drama The Bay is back for its fifth series, bringing more mystery, drama and emotional twists to Morecambe.

The new series starts on Sunday, 2 March at 9PM on ITV1, with episodes continuing on the Monday and Tuesday.

Marsha Thomason – who took over from Morven Christie as series lead for season 3 in 2022 – will return as family liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-bay-season-4-marsha-thomason-jenn-newsupdate/)
, who will once again be tasked with investigating a shocking crime.

Meanwhile, other regular cast members back for the new season include Daniel Ryan as DI Anthony 'Tony' Manning, Erin Shanagher as DS Karen Hobson and Andrew Dowbiggin as DS James Clarke.

There are also new arrivals in the shape of Happy Valley star Olwen May and The Full Monty's Tara Lynne O’Neill, while some more returnees include Barry Sloane as Chris Fischer, Georgia Scholes as his daughter Erin, and David Carpenter and Emme Hayes as Jenn’s children Conor and Maddie.

A synopsis for the new run teases: "When 23-year-old university student Hannah is found dead on the edge of the docks, Morecambe’s MIU team has another case to solve

Jenn, who is returning to work following the death of her father, pushes aside her own grief to support Hannah’s bitterly divided family.

"With the stakes of the investigation high, Jenn and the team dig deeper into the case, uncovering hidden friendships and secret liaisons as anger rises in the student community."

E3 recap

Tommy threatens to expose Craig and his money scheme, but he silences him on who Julie would rather believe.

Steve approaches Jenn about a taxi fair that Craig didn't pay for and she later confronts him about the Lancaster street cameras, which he acknowledges and explains that he had to deliver some keys. Though hesitantly accepted by the police, Lou later receives a confirmation about Craig's delivery.

The autopsy results of Hannah are returned and shows signs of the chemical substance TBP, with some traces also found on Cal.

A vigil for Hannah takes place at her university, which later leads to a confrontation between police and protestors. In the chaos, Karen tries to intervene in an arrest of a girl, only to be knocked down. She later learns that the arresting officer has filed a complaint against her.

Jenn deduces that Hannah and Cal could have been at the same power plant that her brother works at. Conor and his boyfriend face challenges in their relationship as they prepare to go to separate universities.

Regarding Craig's explanation about the keys. Yes, it checked out that he was actually delivering keys but it could still be a cover for what he was actually doing. He could have easily dumped a body AND delivered the keys 🤷🏻‍♀️

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 05/03/2025 07:49

Is it just me or is the acting this series really iffy?

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/03/2025 10:39

"Too much with Conor" is that Jenn's son? How do you mean too much, we've barely seen him?

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/03/2025 10:40

Oh sorry - I think you might have all seen episode 3 last night? I didn't, will catch up. Maybe there was a lot of Conor in it.

I think the body and keys were in opposite places so tech couldn’t have done it

It can't be Craig as he's been shown so much . Why do dramas have obvious red herrings ?!

Not sure who it is , I always guess wrong !!

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/03/2025 19:49

I’m still saying bruv

I just watched ep 3. Conor really wasn't it in a lot; a fairly brief break-up scene at the end. And Jenn told him to home at the vigil. That's about it.

duc748 · 05/03/2025 20:23

Bradley looks like he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders, can't believe he's a killer, but he's clearly mixed up in it somehow.

Rictasmorticia · 05/03/2025 22:17

I have watched them all and really enjoyed it. I love the music

Zenana · 05/03/2025 22:17

Leanne Best is getting on my nerves. She's playing the irritating Tina from Cold Feet.

Davros · 08/03/2025 10:43

I've just come here to see what people think. I'm struggling through it in the absence of anything else to fill this hole. I don't like ANY of the characters. It's hard going but Death in Paradise isn't on every night 😢

Jesus Christ! Tony! 😱

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2025 22:04

Oh wow.

Didn't expect the ending

Reminds me of unforgotten.

Hope he's not dead !!!

Not sure if crash his fault or he got hit by lorry

So how did hannah get traces of this drug as seems to be nowhere near

Who was driving the lorry on cctv

And cal is dead. Not surprised if he was pushed off the cliff 🥲

And still no closer to finding out who killed hannah

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 09/03/2025 22:05

Cal was driving the van on CCTV.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2025 22:21

Oh it was cal. Thanks. Tho can’t get any info from him

@Blondeshavemorefun yes reminded me of Unforgotten as well at the end with Tony. Shocking.

Re Hannah wanting to spend all her time with Steve riding round in his taxi when she was a girl. Perhaps she was avoiding being at home 🤷🏻‍♀️

Erin's boss is an absolute shit getting her arrested rather than talking to her first. All the CCTV would have shown is her turning a blind eye to mum nicking the formula. How many times are shop workers told not to take on shop lifters in case they come off worse.

Although it was probably a good thing that Erin was arrested as otherwise Chris was going to get drunk and end up with his work colleague.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2025 22:30

The shoplifter was very brazen. Stealing right infront of her

Erin had helped her in a previous episode. She'd told her the shop owner wouldn't notice, or something like that.
