Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

It is so sad isn't it ?
Some good acting , especially by Stacey

I would honestly believe that Stacey is devastated that Martin has left EE. She was that good at seeming distraught today. Her and Phil should get best acting awards this year.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 10:33

Ian having a pop at Cindy cheered me up a bit though !
His finally realized how toxic she is.
I think she'll be mad to tell the police about Kathy , but she'll still hold it over them no doubt?
Although she did try to kill Ian by pushing him in the road , it's a 'tit for tat ' situation there

Don't get me wrong, I was gutted last night that they killed Martin off. And I kept thinking what a great loss it was. Mainly because he added a bit of comic relief / normal nice bloke good dad vibes.

But I'm REALLY struggling to think of any storylines / chances to shine that he's had in the last 10 years (since he came back as a new actor).. Can anyone actually think of any? 😂

Things happen to the women around him: Stacey's mental health, Ruby lying, Lily getting pregnant.. but Martin's just kind of been there. Nice and supportive. Just gets on with it. No real signs of any huge internal anguish...

Only up to here catching up so sorry if repeating but the Martin storyline that always sticks out for me is when he denied Stacey seeing tiny premie baby Hope. I think she was banging on the door and begging to nurse her. I was breastfeeding at the time and the whole thing made my boobs ache and just hated Martin.

New Martin's entry story was when Sonia had nicked charity money to get a gastric band abroad in a bid to fix her and Martin's relationship as he was pretty horrid to her by all accounts. Not justifying her thieving ways, but between Jamie and those two episodes I've always thought Martin was a total **

That said I'm devastated he's gone. I think the endless killing off of characters is utterly boring and damages the show long term.

I don't want modern realism though, I've realised I'd rather have heartbeat for the 80s/90s generation. Pure nostalgia and the grimy mismatched London of my childhood. Appreciate that's not how to get the next generation of viewers in though.

Oh I don’t remember that! Original Chelsea certainly got around. I remember her fling with Jack.

Grant also had a ONS with Kathy, Jane and god knows who else I can’t recall. He clearly doesn’t have his brother’s super sperm as he only has two kids to show for it lol.

Hold on! I must have been hibernating. Are you saying that Chelsea had sex with Jack? He then marries her mum? 😱. Cindy shags her ex H's son? We need one of those spider diagrams showing who's had sex with whose family member.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 10:51

I also don't recall grant and Kathy .. doesn't surprise me though
It seems Bianca hasn't forgiven grant for Tiffany and Courtney either! He was particularly vile to Tiffany though.

Kathy was married to Phil for a few years and they had Ben etc. Sleeping with brothers and sisters seems the norm on EE as we have pointed out before on here .

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 10:54

I do recall Jack n old head Chelsea though oddly enough.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 10:59

At least jumpers acknowledged that Grant saved Sharon.
Nigel waffling on trying to ease the tension between the brothers was realistic even if it wasn't appropriate !
I hope that they may make up a bit before G heads off again
Linda was nice to Sonia today , she has been everyone's saviour lately.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 11:07

I think I wrote last week that Ian and Martin were nephew and uncle.
He said today they were cousins so I was wrong there ! Not sure how I got to my conclusion tbh and I watch nearly every episode . I think I just get a tad confused at times with the various family dynamics

Yeah I remember you wrote that and I was a bit confused as I knew Martin’s mum and Ian’s dad were siblings so thought the boys were first cousins. They’ve got the episode with Martin’s christening (from 1985!) trending on my YouTube feed🥲 It was so unecessary to kill off a character with a 40 year history, they could have just had him go off travelling/meet up with Bex.

I felt very sorry for Ruby today. Zack is the only one who spared a thought for her and Roman. As expected, everyone feels sorry for Stacey.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 11:45

Eastie. After I wrote it I was trying to remember how they would be related and realized I was wrong, but as nobody corrected me I then I wasn't sure ! 😆
Of course they are cousins

New stage role coming up for James Bye (playing Mr Darcy!):

Southeastdweller · 24/02/2025 12:58

Hmm, yes this confirms that I really don’t think he left voluntarily - why would a dad of four choose to leave EE to tour round the UK that pays much lower than what he was getting? Such a shame he was axed and I do hope it works out.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 13:01

So many different rumours over Martin's exit.
I've no idea, but goes to show how fragile acting work can be and how they often need a side hussle to make ends meet.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 13:22

When Honey got his birthday wrong last year , we all thought then ' somethings up' !
Then he was told about Roman. So I didn't think he'd be killed off tbh.

Southeastdweller · 24/02/2025 13:26

I never expected him to be killed off either but like I said I think they wanted to make a point about one life / chapter ends and a new one begins. And more broadly he was a little disposable.

OP posts:
Shellingbynight · 24/02/2025 13:27

I agree it is very unlikely that James Bye quit. Even if he wanted to leave he would have asked for a soft exit like so many others - Tish, Lacey, Patsy - with the option of returning. No way in the world would he want Martin killed off, that was not his choice.

Lacey is a great actress but I do find Stacey quite annoying when she plays the 'poor me' card.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 13:29

Yes. Agree that he was completely disposable despite having just found his new son and Ruby had returned, so it seemed they were lining him up for new storylines rather than axing him.
However, is what it is.
Todays one was very good I thought
Seemed a bit more settled snd at least a few storylines have been resolved

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/02/2025 13:43

Kathy and Grant bonded when the four of them ( Grant/Phil/Sharon/Kathy ) went on a trip to Paris .
They had a relationship (cannot remember how long )

And YY Old Head Chels and Jack&Jack .

Thankfully NuHead Chels seems to have had this memory not transferred

Eastie77Returns · 24/02/2025 13:45

You’d think JackandJack would be busy calling on his hospitalised niece who has just given birth or the other niece who narrowly escaped death at the hands of a madman. But no, he is on the phone harassing Dee to tell everyone they are back on. Presumably so she can move back in asap and resume her job as his housemaid and looking after his kids🙄

Itisjustmyopinion · 24/02/2025 13:50

When Stacey said to Jean was it my fault I just thought yes it was Stacey. Those chats could have been done in the comfort of anywhere else but a building that has exploded!

Lacey played a great part today though, especially as she would have been about 8 months pregnant then. She must have been exhausted

Loved the fact that Jumpers seemed intimidated by Grant

Southeastdweller · 24/02/2025 13:51

It was aa good episode, today, and as a long term viewer I found the scene where Kathy broke down about Martin especially moving, I guess because I too recall first seeing him when Pauline brought Martin home from hospital. Gillian Taylforth has long been one of the more underrated actors in EE - I still remember the episode from 1992 when Kathy confronted Wilmott-Brown about raping her and she told Pete their marriage was over.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 13:55

Yes. I was nodding too when Stacey said ' it's my fault '!
I do feel that Dee and Jack have moved on from his Chelsea fling , she doesn't bring it up anyway. It's still strange though.
Kathy was good today. I remember Martin as a little one , it's what people do isn't it , reminise.
It was well done and sad.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2025 13:56

Seeing Phil in an old grey hoodie was odd !
Made him look so vulnerable ( which did work)

Eastie77Returns · 24/02/2025 14:35

Yes Kathy’s scene was very moving. She always loved Martin. And Sharon saying she feels as if she has lost a brother😢

heartbroken22 · 24/02/2025 15:02

They definitely got it wrong killing Martin off.
