Never seen this before, waiting for the Agatha Christie which was due on at 9. Is this not total sentimental nonsense?

Yes that's why we like it.

LIZS · 02/03/2025 21:13

Poor Paula, completely traumatised

LIZS · 02/03/2025 21:16

Lurid orange dresses!

ohhowiloveyou · 02/03/2025 21:17

Very 70s - seen many a wedding photo like that in my granny’s albums!

KohlaParasaurus · 02/03/2025 21:17

Sniffle sniffle

Elderflower14 · 02/03/2025 21:17

Where is his Mum???

FagsMagsandBags · 02/03/2025 21:20

I love the little girls' bridesmaid dresses, so right for the period and so adorable!

I enjoyed that episode a lot, it was full of love and warmth and made me cry so that'll do for me.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/03/2025 21:22

I thought it was a lovely episode. The wedding outfits were just right.

placemats · 02/03/2025 21:22

Three hankies and that was a wonderful conclusion. So much to mull over, especially teenage pregnancy. Had a school mate who gave birth at 15. She was allowed to sit her O Levels. She passed them all with ease.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 02/03/2025 21:23

God, that was boring 🥱
Really disappointed by that final episode.

witchycat2 · 02/03/2025 21:27

Well that's it then until Christmas!

DrinkReprehensibly · 02/03/2025 21:27

I enjoyed that. This series was a definite improvement. I loved the dresses in this episode - very 70s. I wasn't born until the 80s but I can't help thinking the nurses and nuns all still speak a bit like it's the 1940s. I don't know how realistic their vocab/phrases are really. I think it was something in last week's episode where Miss Higgins said that Nurse Crane was looking "positively sanguine". Maybe it's me though - I just don't hear that kind of thing very often!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 02/03/2025 21:28

It didn’t feel like a last episode.
How many days pp was Nancy? Would she have been up to a wedding and reception when she had only just had a baby? Poor Paula she was so frightened.

LIZS · 02/03/2025 21:30

I thought they would leave SMJ at the Mother House.

I wasn't around in the 70s either but Miss Higgins is supposed to be mid to late 60s at least, so born in the early 1900s. And she's supposed to be quite posh so her language reflects that.

Miss Higgins would have been born in the Edwardian period and was raise in India among a certain 'type' her speech wouldn't suddenly alter to that of of someone born post WWii and raised in London.

RosaMoline · 02/03/2025 21:38

Great episode - Nancy has the most wondrous hair - I’m very envious!
Call me psychic - I just knew the case was going to be repaired Kitsune style, even before Geoffrey mentioned Japan - with the Kitsune, and Geoffrey talking about Japanese things, and the acknowledgment that ‘someone else’ repaired the vase, I am wondering if Geoffrey has a new love interest, who just happens to be from there?
I think (hope) we will see a wedding next season between Rosalind & Cyril ♥️

RosaMoline · 02/03/2025 21:39

vase NOT case!

Needmorelego · 02/03/2025 21:39

I swear the official BBC trailers said "tragedy to strike" for the final episode.
This meant anytime in the episode there was a hint of a possibility of something bad I was holding my breath.
Premature baby in an ambulance.
The world's smallest 14 year old giving birth.
Mention of fireworks.
Reggie being followed by bullies.
Dr Turner and Sister Thingy in the car saying about "hopefully they'll get there in time" so possibly driving fast.
Sister Monica Joan being just very very old.
And then.......no tragedy at all.
Pah !
Unless you could that colour scheme for the wedding (but oh so 70s).

Needmorelego · 02/03/2025 21:41

Why would the fire at a mother and baby house be reported on the radio news?
Back then locals would have known what the house was for but it wouldn't have been officially common knowledge.

Why do you think that? Thought it was a lovely ending to the series, tying up all the loose ends so neatly, not all happy but moving and bittersweet.

Needmorelego · 02/03/2025 21:43

I'm also curious where the wedding took place.
It wasn't the usual church. In fact didn't look like a church at all but also didn't look like a registrar office (which back then it was that or a church - you couldn't marry anywhere else).

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 02/03/2025 21:44

Toddlerteaplease · 02/03/2025 20:28

Trixie completely breaking patient confidentiality there.

I thought that!

When did mother and baby homes disappear?

Needmorelego · 02/03/2025 21:44

LIZS · 02/03/2025 21:30

I thought they would leave SMJ at the Mother House.

She'd run away if they tried that - despite being 97 ish years old 😂
