I know that my first thread isn't full yet. I just wanted to create the second thread before i forgot.

@Ilikeadrink14i loved CTM, have never missed an episode. But I think it should have stopped about three series ago. As PP’s have said, it’s gone twee. And repetitive. They are just flogging a dead horse.

The film could be interesting. I'd certainly like to see early 70s Hong Kong but the prequel. Oh my, just what we all wanted. Makes me sad that I won't be around for it. Think of me when you're watching it 🙂

I will think of you. I am excited about the prequel but i am unsure about the film. I don't like the downton films but i might like the ctm film.

So does this mean the 1972 film will be the end of the current cast (and they won’t be covering 1973 or later)?

I hope they move further into the 1970s for the purely selfish reason that I was born in ‘72 and remember the late 1970s.

Brilliant news about the prequel. It’ll be great.

The Christmas viewing figure was pretty impressive. Nothing was going to beat Gavin & Stacey I guess.

I think so as they'll be too busy making the film and prequel to make the series as well. I'm glad they are doing my birth year 71 so I can see the fashions and issues of the day.

TickingAlongNicely · 07/05/2025 23:07

The actual Nuns left in 1976, so its nearly the end of its life as a series.

I think it will end with the death of Sister Monica Joan.

PinkCandles · 07/05/2025 23:13

I think it would be sad to end it on them leaving Nonnatus. So maybe it's for the best.

According to the character back stories Sister Monica Joan was born in 1873 so they really should let her celebrate her 100th birthday. Then she can pass away and the series could end.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 25/06/2025 22:06

As much as I love CTM it’s time to call it a day.

TickingAlongNicely · 25/06/2025 22:18

Not overly surprised, especially with the prequel announced.

Hope it gets a good ending though. Mybearly bets are...

  • death of Sister MJ
  • retirement of Nurse Crane, maybe Sister Julienne?
  • Trixie has a baby
  • wedding of Cyril and the annoying one who i can never remember name of
  • HV nun goes of the set up drugs programme
  • Tim is fully trained doctor
Convolvulus · 26/06/2025 00:58

As they're tying up loose ends, it would be good if they did some sort of catch-up to show what some of the previous main characters are doing.

I must say, I never enjoy episodes when they send everyone off to other countries, I'd rather they kept it in Poplar.

StillCreatingAName · 26/06/2025 01:21

As much as I’ve been frustrated with these last few series, it’s never been a hate watch. It’s actually comforting tv, not sure it’s film potential for me. Downton didn’t translate on big screen, but I went to see them anyway 🤷‍♀️

Surely it ends with Sister MJ’s passing?

jay55 · 26/06/2025 09:27

The prequel gives us CTM without the Turners, I’m all for that.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2025 09:29

Apparently it's not true it's been "cancelled".
According to the Beeb anyway.
It will have to end in a few years though as we will be up to when the Sisters leave London.

Me too. I hope Stephen McGann doesn't get to play Dr Turner's dad - a GP during WW2 in it.

jay55 · 26/06/2025 10:06

@PinkCandlesdo not give them ideas!

Is there any McGann sons that became actors?
One of them could be young Dr Turner 😬

SnowyMice · 26/06/2025 10:44

Is there a new series?

Dr T was away at war. I know he has special powers but I don't think being in two places at once is among them.

Currently filming the next Christmas special I believe.

Surely he ended up in a mental institution with PTSD at some point. I feel we may need to watch that play out. Lots of hammy sobbing perhaps?

Needmorelego · 26/06/2025 11:43

Most of the male characters would have been away at war. Chummy's husband was Police so he might be able to pop up (or would he be too young?).
All the original non-nun midwives would have been children in the war.
Not sure how old Chummy was.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2025 11:50

Just checked the official biographies - Jenny and Trixie were both born in 1935 and Cynthia in 36.
Chummy was slightly older born between 28 and 30.
But of course they weren't locals.
Valerie grew up there and was born in 1938 (so actually might have been evacuated).
If they started the prequel just before the war we could have Val being born and delivered by one of the Nuns.
