I've been watching and I'm loving it so far. Siobhan McSweeney's character and Amanda's South African boyfriend have made the series for me.

itsgettingweird · 07/02/2025 18:07

I'm loving it.

It's so hilariously ridiculous but we all know these stereotypes exists 😂

I'm on episode 6.

ThePoshUns · 07/02/2025 18:09

I did chuckle at all the Irish cousin Pats on Ann's zoom call.

The lady buying the pony was Anna Crilly, who played Jack Dee's Polish housekeeper in Lead Balloon back in the 00s.

In a very spooky coincidence I'm just listening to Cabin Pressure and Anna Crilly was announced in the end credits cast list.

I've recently binged all the Lead Balloons for about the third time but don't think I've come across her in anything else

HotCrossBunplease · 07/02/2025 18:27

I loved the “Chim Chiminee” joke when Amanda first met Della.

Only in this episode of Ladhood.

I've not heard of that, I'll give it a watch

I also kept waiting for Johannes to be revealed as some sort of Tindr swindler type of bloke but no, he was genuine, if a dickhead.

Same!

ValentineValentineV · 07/02/2025 18:51

I thought it was funny when he said he hardly ever proposes and also giving out all the £20’s.

ShillyShallySherbet · 07/02/2025 19:18

It’s a shame Johannes is unlikely to be in the next series as he really made it for me, just such a funny character. Like someone said unthread, he is the male version of Amanda. In fact it’s all the same sort of characters to me, a perfect blend! JJ is like the new Kevin. Mal is like a Liz/Julia hybrid. I think Ann’s character changed over the course of Motherland as she wised up to Amanda and the power shifted a bit and she became more confident, to me she’s just developed more that way in the intervening years between motherland and Amandaland. Della and her wife (whose name is escaping me) balance each other out to be a bit like a Meg character.

TeachesOfPeaches · 07/02/2025 20:00

Johannes was the most amusing character this series

Bringmeahigherlove · 07/02/2025 20:27

I enjoyed it! I laughed out loud several times. My favourite line from JJ “that’s all the subs will cover unfortunately……we are not exactly Totting Hams Hot Spur”.

tennissquare · 07/02/2025 21:02

I've watched it all once and now starting again, it's so funny!

Wallasey123 · 07/02/2025 21:05

Rosalina2025 · 07/02/2025 08:43

As soon as I saw Liz and Kevin I thought yes I liked Amandaland but nothing beats Motherland.

Agreed! And I did like this but Motherland was just elite comedy

Enjoyed it more than I thought. The SA accent was so bad I thought he was a fake romance fraudster.

fingerbobz · 07/02/2025 21:35

Amanda trying to infiltrate the gang was a bit like Julia making friends in the pilot

fingerbobz · 07/02/2025 21:47

Anne mentioning the Sweet Bobby podcast 😂

With Felicity and JJ not adverse to holding their hand out for the odd £20 either 😆

Gan Gan: "I had to go to something called a London for this"

Great characters all round. Loved it.

A Londis!!!!

Autocorrect on here is brutal.

I've only watched eps 1-3. It's enjoyable but I agree, different to Motherland.

It is baffling that the writers seem to have forgotten key character points particularly re Anne. Though I hadn't thought about it as a PP suggested, we living in 'Amandaland', so are seeing it through Amanda's self-absorbed lens. So Anne's personal details are blurry or downright wrong because Anne is a supporting character in Amanda's universe and Amanda just isn't interested to know what happens in other people's lives beyond what serves her own interests. It's an interesting viewpoint.

Plus the weird Harlesden/Hounslow thing. Did the writers think we wouldn't notice? Why not just make up a Harlesden or Willesden team name?

As a PP mentioned, why does Joanna Lumley live in London? She got the house in the divorce. She was divorced in the Mother's Day episode of Motherland, when she visited from Cheltenham. It seems unlikely that she remarried, relocated and divorced within in the last few years. Never mind being able to keep that house after such a short marriage. There has been no mention of Cheltenham at all so far. Same as the changes to Anne's house. It just feels like a continuity error, which makes me question whether we are being generous with the POV stuff for Anne. I know it's a light comedy show but these things are irritating. When you carry key characters over, you should make sure you carry their backstory over too!

Mind you, they were sods for doing it in Motherland too. Julia's mother was supposed to live in Leatherhead, but we were supposed to believe that she provided regular wraparound care for the kids. Leatherhead - Acton is a good hour+ (not in rush hour school run time).

Back to Amandaland. I'm not a fan of Della & Fi either. I realise they are to demonstrate Amanda's social climbing ambitions aren't dead, despite her slide down the social snake, but ugh. Della's sneering annoyance is too much and something about the Fi character gets on my wick. I don't find either of them all that likeable.

I think Marion always lived in London. She stayed with Julia's sister in Leatherhead when the sister had a baby.

I'm guessing as Felicity is wealthy that she has more than one property.

Anne's house is completely different. She's moved- just not explained.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 07/02/2025 23:41

I loved it.

My favorite line in the whole thing was - our Kelly.

tennissquare · 07/02/2025 23:44

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName , my favourite too!

Floralnomad · 07/02/2025 23:58

It definitely improved as the season went on , great end

fingerbobz · 08/02/2025 07:34

On the whole, i like it

Amanda was my favourite character from ML

The characters in this were a bit meh, although i like Mal.

Perhaps they will bring Johannes back... as her on/off boyfriend

Maybe they will bring in someone else equally annoying

The inconsistencies/ plot holes have bothered me more than they should...I'm annoyed that i'm annoyed...its a sitcom after all
