The lady buying the pony was Anna Crilly, who played Jack Dee's Polish housekeeper in Lead Balloon back in the 00s.

Magda! I loved her and was nice to see her again.

ThePoshUns · 07/02/2025 12:45

@CurrentHun in ep2 Anne was saying that she had found Darius' insta account and JJ said that she hadn't found his hidden insta and that it's been discussed on Mumsnet

Delatron · 07/02/2025 12:47

I’m loving how the kids (as teenagers) are featured so much more in this series. So accurate.

Also loving how Joanna Lumley’s relationship with her grandkids has improved dramatically! She is a stand out in this series. I love her.

Ah thank you! missed that totally.

And also thank you all re ID of Magda- I loved how she sneaked back to the stall

Loving it!

stonkytonk11 · 07/02/2025 13:28

I'm on episode 4 and really enjoying it, took a couple of episodes to get warmed up I think. Joanna Lumley is pure class, what an actress 🤩

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 07/02/2025 13:45

I've only watched eps 1-3. It's enjoyable but I agree, different to Motherland.

It is baffling that the writers seem to have forgotten key character points particularly re Anne. Though I hadn't thought about it as a PP suggested, we living in 'Amandaland', so are seeing it through Amanda's self-absorbed lens. So Anne's personal details are blurry or downright wrong because Anne is a supporting character in Amanda's universe and Amanda just isn't interested to know what happens in other people's lives beyond what serves her own interests. It's an interesting viewpoint.

Plus the weird Harlesden/Hounslow thing. Did the writers think we wouldn't notice? Why not just make up a Harlesden or Willesden team name?

As a PP mentioned, why does Joanna Lumley live in London? She got the house in the divorce. She was divorced in the Mother's Day episode of Motherland, when she visited from Cheltenham. It seems unlikely that she remarried, relocated and divorced within in the last few years. Never mind being able to keep that house after such a short marriage. There has been no mention of Cheltenham at all so far. Same as the changes to Anne's house. It just feels like a continuity error, which makes me question whether we are being generous with the POV stuff for Anne. I know it's a light comedy show but these things are irritating. When you carry key characters over, you should make sure you carry their backstory over too!

Mind you, they were sods for doing it in Motherland too. Julia's mother was supposed to live in Leatherhead, but we were supposed to believe that she provided regular wraparound care for the kids. Leatherhead - Acton is a good hour+ (not in rush hour school run time).

Back to Amandaland. I'm not a fan of Della & Fi either. I realise they are to demonstrate Amanda's social climbing ambitions aren't dead, despite her slide down the social snake, but ugh. Della's sneering annoyance is too much and something about the Fi character gets on my wick. I don't find either of them all that likeable.

Bailiwitch · 07/02/2025 14:15

That’s the thing … The script and direction did nothing to exploit Siobhán McSweeney‘s amazing comic timing and delivery as Della. Despite the odd conciliatory speech she wasn’t shown to be an attractive character so it was hard to care about her. And Fi appeared to have absolutely nothing to her - beyond basket weaving. She would have been intensely irritating to live with, with no apparent redeeming qualities. Does anyone in real life rejoice when their partner’s business fails because I never seeeeeeee you?

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda

Another one from Motherland

Amanda and Meg discuss schools. Amanda went to Putney High and Meg went to St Pauls Girls

In a later episode Meg mentions how she grew up in Brockley

SparklingJoyous · 07/02/2025 15:12

Just watched them all. They were alright. What was with all the drug use though?! Ruined it imo.
Amanda's new fella gave me the ick.
Not liking Anne's hair colour.

I missed that one! Another heck of a school run.

I am probably otherthinking this, but..... I assumed Ann's house move was because of having more children. (Is it five now? The one in the show, then there was mention of twins, plus the baby she had in Motherland and then the pregnancy when that baby was small?) Anyway, she would have needed a bigger house, and probably got more space for her money in SoHa.

wipeywipe · 07/02/2025 15:45

the dc were in photos on the walls of Anne's house.

Oldglasses · 07/02/2025 15:49

I've binged the lot and really enjoyed it. I don't think it was made to take seriously and think about all the whys and wherefores!

Hotmess101 · 07/02/2025 15:57

I thought it was great, trying not to view it through the ML lens too much (although I was never a huge fan of Meg, Liz or some of the later episodes/Christmas special). Feel like Amanda comfortably covers a fair bit of Julia’s cuntery so I’m not missing her too much, and JJ is a bit of a wet lettuce a la Kevin… I laughed aloud at the collab stuff with the kitchen showroom job (nice to see Sharon Horgan casting her old mate Karl from Pulling, he’s great). Mal is good and I think the ensemble just about works. Binged the lot in an afternoon so they must be doing something right!

The new house looked decidedly smaller, though?

Another continuity error from Motherland, Anne talked about going through early menopause and then went on to be super fertile with loads more kids!

Offredismysister · 07/02/2025 16:23

I watched 3 yesterday & 3 today & enjoyed it without comparing it to motherland.

fingerbobz · 07/02/2025 16:30

In the xmas episode (Last Christmas) Anne is pushing a triple buggy

So i think that's baby Niamh (something Irishy) and twins

NowNumber5 · 07/02/2025 16:37

The twin's (?) names she called out were Finn and Eoin.
Their surname is Flynn.
So, Finn Flynn... 😁

DoneRomeodone · 07/02/2025 17:02

Only watched first two but my theory of the football team is that Mal and family may have lived in Houndslow and son played for the team / Mal coached. Then when they moved they retained link there (you wouldn’t move teams if you could possibly still play - especially as away matches may be nearer your new home). Mal might have got other kids recruited from new area as their parents knew he coached and trusted him to engage their kids in the team even if it meant travelling. Or the writers didn’t have a map!

ValentineValentineV · 07/02/2025 17:20

There’s a lot overthinking going on here, it’s just a silly comedy, it’s not meant to make complete sense, that’s why it’s funny.

paranoidnamechanger · 07/02/2025 17:24

The writers were being lazy about Anne and didn’t care we’d notice the discrepancies of Anne in Motherland and the Anne in this. Likewise with this Hounslow/Harlesden crap.

the80sweregreat · 07/02/2025 17:31

I don't mind the obvious inconsistencies as it's not real life. I have ( however ) met a few Amanda types before now!!
I like Anne , she knows what A is like deep down but too nice to say anything to her face
