Baby Niamh or something Irish-y was never seen

Amanda's goddaughter

NowNumber5 · 07/02/2025 07:38

Baby Niamh was actually Philippa Dunne’s (Anne) real life baby!

lottiegarbanzo · 07/02/2025 07:59

The main question I've come away with is, does anyone else pronounce collab the way Amanda does, as CO-lab (like she's sharing a laboratory) rather than coLAB (first part of collaboration? I take it this is a 'how sincerely wrong and wanky can she be?' joke like 'Higga Tigga'?

Is it not co lab like two different words?

Not something I've ever needed to say out loud but in my head I read it like that

lottiegarbanzo · 07/02/2025 08:14

It's short for collaboration.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/02/2025 08:14

It's short for collaboration.

I know that if course but if you say it like the first part of the word it doesn't sound right to me, it sounds kind of rushed and like the emphasis should be different

But as I say my day to day life . doesn't involve me coming across it as a spoken word

lottiegarbanzo · 07/02/2025 08:21

I first came across it in a Boden 'Autumn workwear' ad about 5-7 years ago. 'Back to creative collabs and morning croissants?'. 'I am not your target audience' thought I.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/02/2025 08:27

Ok, this is the question I'm asking. I would say it exactly like the first part of collaboration 'creative c'lab'. I'm asking if that's me mispronouncing it in my head and people really do elongate the CO part and make it sound like colon. Or if it's another case of Higga Tigga trend-subverting wankery by Amanda.

Delatron · 07/02/2025 08:32

I think people do say Co (long o) lab. Not sure why. Or maybe that’s just me. (And Amanda).

lottiegarbanzo · 07/02/2025 08:37

Well that's my new thing learnt for today!

Take a nice word like collaboration and make it sound like colon. Yuck.

CO-lab should be shared laboratory workspace, in my mind.

Anyway, quite enjoyed it but then, after the last episode, iplayer moved automatically to the pilot of Motherland. It was sooo much better.

As soon as I saw Liz and Kevin I thought yes I liked Amandaland but nothing beats Motherland.

MoonWoman69 · 07/02/2025 09:27

Binge watched it last night and I actually loved it! I really didn't expect to, but I thought it was funny and quite well written.
I agree, it's no Motherland, but it was better than I imagined! Still think Kev, Liz and Julia should have been in it somewhere!

the80sweregreat · 07/02/2025 09:58

I just love how Amanda manages to get people to do things for her! She cracks me up

Except it doesn't work with Mal, which is why I think he's good for her.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 07/02/2025 11:26

I really liked the relationship between Mal and JJ, Mal feeling insecure about how close Ned and JJ were and JJ feeling like he'd never be able to live up to Mal. Yet they managed to have a decent friendship and get on with each other.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 07/02/2025 11:27

I also kept waiting for Johannes to be revealed as some sort of Tindr swindler type of bloke but no, he was genuine, if a dickhead.

wipeywipe · 07/02/2025 11:28

obviously Mal and Amanda will get together

pearbottomjeans · 07/02/2025 11:31

Johannes/Your Highness made me proper guffaw 🤣

NowNumber5 · 07/02/2025 11:34

‘Kitchens - Bathrooms - Kitchens’

and

’Johannes’ - ‘Your highness’ made me lol.

I love Amanda and Felicity’s relationship. In Motherland, it was portrayed as nothing short of diabolical, so pleased to see another side of it

Mal, JJ and Ned’s relationship is lovely too.

Yes! I was too. They all seemed to hate him but I didn't think he was that bad. In a show where everyone has their quirks and is still tolerated, he didn't seem that bad to me that he was singled out as being a dick. Do I need to raise my standards?! What did I miss? Clocked the money thing and the sexism.

fingerbobz · 07/02/2025 12:08

Loved the continuation of everyone mispronouncing / not getting the name of Amanda's brand

kerstina · 07/02/2025 12:30

Loved it ! Motherland is my comfort tv I , can go back to it and it will always make me laugh and I can see this being the same. Great script , brilliant actors.

CurrentHun · 07/02/2025 12:31

I loved the long running detail gags that carry through like ‘senuous’ so well written! People on this thread are treating this like Megan ve Kate or something - it’s not a competition.
And as we all know as a discussion-ender from MN ‘it’s perfectly possible to care about two things at the same time’ Grin

What was the shout out to Mumsnet in Amandaland, that someone mentioned upthread? I missed that. I got overexcited at first and thought the lady buying the pony was Justine doing a cameo for some reason. That would have been fucking brilliant.

Anyway please let them get a series 2. I just loved how you can feel the writers are having fun with writing it for such a great central trio of actors. I can also tell that they have absolutely mined comedy gold from this website. ‘We just asked all our mates for their funny stories’ say the writers, aye right. They just have been old lags on here for years, I reckon. Anyway- congratulations to cast and writers and more of all of it please.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 07/02/2025 12:42

The lady buying the pony was Anna Crilly, who played Jack Dee's Polish housekeeper in Lead Balloon back in the 00s.
