New 5 part drama starts next sun 26 Jan

For 5 nights consecutive

If there’s one thing Sheridan Smith is sure to do, it’s deliver a standout performance.

We do love a SS drama here on telly addicts 😂

From her gut-wrenching portrayal of grief in BBC One’s Four Lives (www.stylist.co.uk/entertainment/four-lives-episode-three-review/607622) to her hilarious cameos as Smithy’s sister Rudi in Gavin And Stacey (www.stylist.co.uk/tag/gavin-and-stacey),

we know the Bafta-winning actor is sure to rise to the occasion. No wonder that we’re seriously excited for her upcoming thriller series.

Smith and Céline Buckens (Showtrial (www.stylist.co.uk/tag/showtrial)) star as sisters in
The Castaways
, a new Paramount+ drama series based on Lucy Clarke’s bestselling novel.

Here’s everything to know so far, including the newly released trailer for the series

After a huge fight on holiday, Lori (Smith) boards a plane to Fiji, while Erin (Buckens) does not.

The flight never arrives at its destination and months later, no wreckage has been located.

But Erin refuses to believe that her sister is gone.

When Erin learns that Lori’s credit card has been used on a remote Fijian island and later recognises the plane’s pilot on CCTV, she boards a plane to Fiji to track down the truth. Sounds dark and intriguing.

As well as Smith and Buckens, the series also features Brendan Cowell (Avatar: The Way Of Water) as pilot Mike Brasse, Dominic Tighe (The Boys In The Boat) as fellow passenger Daniel Eldridge, Lasarus Ratuere (The Tourist (www.stylist.co.uk/entertainment/tv/the-tourist-bbc-one-2/765846)) as Felix Vatuba and Charlotte Vega (Burial) as Amber Gordon.

On the series, author Lucy Clarke said it “promises to be an incredible adaptation; the scriptwriting
is electric, and Sheridan and Céline are perfectly cast as Lori and Erin”.

where the above recap says dead in a car

The show switches to a flashback of young Lori (Katie Shelley) and young Erin reading. A man is deceased inside a crashed vehicle.

Oh that's interesting

I also thought it was a tent

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2025 21:01

Being sad I had to have another look

looks like they moved Islands - guess they couldn’t stay there incase people came to look at the crashes plane etx

looks like they are on another island with the as a house there (white thing in trees)

tho If they went to bunker island to get food water money then where’s the gun lady

maybe a few islands around there so they took the boat till found one they liked. Ans hence could fish

so guessing they had water money food

I don't think she knew how to fly

Well I reckon you could give it a go and presumably it had a radio / comms to call for help!!!

I've just watched this and was so aggravated by the hanging unresolved ending of Natasha the woman with the gun who was left abandoned (by the pilot and the sister) on the first island with the Bunker 3 supplies for SO many reasons.

Firstly that the sister Erin just left her and then she was never mentioned again. What was she really going to do? Leave her to rot there for ever and live with that on her conscience?

Secondly there was a high chance Natasha would return to civilisation in some way. It looked like there were more flare guns in the bunker. There may have been other satelite phones or radio for back up. Plus she had the plane - even if she couldn't fly it probably had some sort of radio and as @Sunflowers098 said you'd give it a try.

Then once she was back in civilisation, she would report to the mother who hired her, there would be some sort of rescue trail that the police would sooner or later pick up on in some way (given the detective was v. suspicious of Erin's story anyway) - leading to the discovery of Sheridan Smith being alive - which would very much interest the insurers.

How can this have just been left like that? The character should have been killed off in some way for a neater ending of that part. There were many other gaping plot holes but leaving the gun woman unresolved was the worst.

Sheridan Smith and her bf guy made the whole thing very watchable though.
