Starting this thread (as I did this time last year) as the comments on the episodes on telly addicts are always so funny it makes it worth while sitting through the totally unconvincing plots, characters, so called relationships and ...

But who knows maybe this year will be different!

BBC One - Silent Witness, Series 28, Exodus 20:17 - Part 1

The body of an elderly woman found in a cave presents a disturbing mystery for the Lyell.

Has anyone ever noticed how Nicky always walks with her arms straight down by her side? She runs like that as well. Her and Jack just don’t go together do they. I always thought she’d get with the lovely Harry

veraswaistcoat · 19/01/2025 15:45

They don't go together I agree.

I've been on another thread where I mentioned one of the best Autobiographies I've read and thought I should mention it here as it might appeal to others who enjoy a bit of forensic pathology (this one's real though!)

Dr Richard Shepherd - Unnatural Causes
It's a fascinating account of all the cases he covered and I enjoyed listening to him read it on Audible.

I enjoyed that one. Stiff by Margaret Roach is also very good and humerus 😉. I liked reading the Simpson autobiography Forty Years of Murder too.

No they don't go together. Everyone understands this but we go along with the charade.

Cattery · 19/01/2025 18:17

Also the more recent series seem to be struggling for replacements for Leo, Harry, Thomas and the fabulous Clarissa. Loved her friendship with Jack

PinkArt · 19/01/2025 19:01

This year's new cast feels good to me so far. Gabriel seemed to have no character whatsoever, he was just sort of there. And by contrast Velvy had such an unusual backstory that it almost overwhelmed the character. I struggled too with the idea that we were meant to be rooting for the man who walked out on his two tiny kids, even if it was because of his oppressive religion.

I miss Clarissa, who by the way, out of the many royals and celebrities I’ve met, was the most interesting and charismatic in person. She was also completely charming and gracious when I introduced myself (at an event in a work capacity as an artist), gave me great behind the scenes info on the show and left me buzzing. Me, someone who is not at all bothered by stars normally.

Has she been in anything recently? She was stabbed I think some time ago, which was horrendous. Did she leave Silent Witness by choice or was she written out? Honestly once she left I’ve only sort of watched it, I miss her character and the friendship with Jack.

IwantToRetire · 19/01/2025 20:09

I think when she left Silent Witness she went to do some work in the US.

Not sure how that worked out but see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Carr

Liz Carr did a documentary last year on assisted dying, she's one of the most prominent voices against it.

Agree , loved clarissa character !👍

Love Silent witness! But does anyone else wonder how chilled Nicky is, considering all the trauma she's witnessed and been a part of. Also, not a lover of her and Jack's story line!

Oooh she’s in Loki on Disney! That’s cool!

I know, must be dissociating 😅

I wonder if Tuesday's episode will end with someone getting attacked, then getting back up to be able to attack another character this week .

Seems to be a theme .

It's a bit like the Fatal Attraction bathroom scene.

The last episode didn't need the side-stories of child sexual abuse and adoption on top of the housing one. It muddies any clear message having so much going on constantly.

I thought it was interesting how it was all connected.

It's a drama-what should there be a clear message about?

tennissquare · 20/01/2025 22:27

Today's episodes is one of the better in recent times. (I've been watching since 2010!)

It was a good episode this evenings

Made me look forward to tomorrow's episode. Quite often it's a case of watched the first one better watch the second

Angelsrose · 21/01/2025 00:01

Did anyone watch the "Homecoming" episodes last week? Does anyone know why Tina Steadman targeted the journalist Harry Singh? I thought he was trying to get the tragic story of Heron Point publicised? I was so confused, perhaps too much going on in the episode.

Shetlands · 21/01/2025 13:28

Heron Point Episodes:
Gripping plot but so complex it was taxing to follow and I'm still not sure I worked it all out!

My main criticism is the casting of the prison officer's wife Meg (great actress that she is). How old was she supposed to be, given that her husband was still working? I thought she was his mother to start with.

JollyTallTeddy · 21/01/2025 13:31

I though the latest episode was quite good. It's growing on me thankfully.

TheHillsIsLonely · 21/01/2025 14:19

Having watched SW from the start and gradually seen standards drop, it seems that this series a decision has been made to sex and gore it up. Perhaps this is an attempt to modernise it and draw in more viewers in these times when too many people have become more desensitised to violence because of t'internet. I don't really want or need to see Nikki and Jack canoodling in the Lyell or shock-tactic graphic images and gleeful descriptions of bodies, body parts and post-mortems. What I want from SW is more about the people - dead and alive - their stories and where the forensic science and pathology investigations take us. I'd like to say 'less is more' to the SW production team, go back to the roots of the series and do what it was really good at.

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2025 14:56

I went back to some older episodes to compare and they were most certainly less gorey BUT they showed a lot more naked dead people - now they are draped
I wonder if its reflective of changes in practices in morgues etc that now they cover the dead people up to preserve their dignity?

diddl · 21/01/2025 14:59

She is 4yrs older than Lorcan Cranitch, who was born in 1959.
