Starting this thread (as I did this time last year) as the comments on the episodes on telly addicts are always so funny it makes it worth while sitting through the totally unconvincing plots, characters, so called relationships and ...

But who knows maybe this year will be different!

BBC One - Silent Witness, Series 28, Exodus 20:17 - Part 1

The body of an elderly woman found in a cave presents a disturbing mystery for the Lyell.

I understood that Calvin and his mates had served in the British army in Syria @Freysimo

Wasn't Nikki's wedding dress beautiful on her.
Where is it from ?
I hated the first one. Even Emilia Fox couldn't pull it off.

Marvellous acting by Maggie Steed and Francesca Mills.

I think a lot of you are a bit mean about Jack
I hope he or any of his friends aren't on Mumsnet. 😀

I'm going to miss the London vibes.
I love seeing all the landmarks etc, and it was 100% Trafalgar Square.
The fountain, the National Gallery and the ubiquitous Red London bus (but no sirens 😆, and TS was miraculously remarkably empty)
London is my spiritual home even though we are only 40 mins away now.
It was one of the best things about SW, seeing the best and the worst of London!

@deeahgwitch the gorgeous dress was linked by pp on the previous page.

Ah yes - they blew the budget on hiring the location for exclusive use AND on the CGI twinkly stars Grin

Perhaps the excessive music was to cover up the background noise.

I've never watched this but need a new thing to binge. Can I start with more revent seasons or would it be best to start from the beginning?

You would be a very long time! This is series 26 😂

The clue was in the thread name 🙄, I was thinking someone might come along and suggest I start at e.g S20 because of reason xyz or I can dive right in etc.

I started from the beginning during covid, when I had a heck of a lot of free evenings - it took less time than expected!
If you carried on watching on Monday and Tuesday nights from now you'd probably be a healthy way through by the time the next series is on.

🎵Let's start at the very beginning
A very good place to start🎵

That's my advice anyway.

You realise Jack's not real, @deeahgwitch? Wink Anyway, he and Nikki don't have any friends to be on MN from what they said before their wedding, but sorry to Jack and Jack's friends if you've been reading this!

More seriously, I don't know anything about the actor David Caves. I think it's just our enforced watching of the awkward intimacy between his character Jack and Nikki that we've been railing and squirming against.

Am I allowed to say that Jack reminds me of Jon Pertwee's Wurzel Gummidge for some reason?

veraswaistcoat · 06/02/2025 16:57

Omg it's season 28?

IwantToRetire · 06/02/2025 17:17

I am convinced that the writers of the series read the telly addicts threads on MN!

Thanks to our consistent comments on his inappropriate addiction to fighting, and his complete empathy pass, that the writers have changed him.

And have bought in Maggie Stead's character just to say all the rude thinks to her that we want to. (Admittedly if a male boss did this to a woman it would have a very different meaning.)

I've given up on Harry coming back, but had moved onto hoping Jack would do something really silly and Nikki could float around in black, and then another brilliant female would be added to the team and they would become First Female Forensic Force. The 4 Fs!

(If anyone watched Granchester last night it was totally given over to how women are the ones who really get things done!)

@WellsAndThistles watch the very first one at least, so you can see the ‘dead body’ on the slab wriggle and rub her nose…

deeahgwitch · 06/02/2025 19:24

Yes I realise Jack isn't real @TheHillsIsLonely but the actor playing him is and I think he's grand ( in the Irish sense of being ok/fine not the British meaning posh ).

And now you say he reminds you of Worzel Gummidge.
Ah now !
That's really mean.

JollyTallTeddy · 06/02/2025 19:37

@WellsAndThistles I'm bingeing from the start, having started watching the series maybe five years ago. You're in for a treat, as long as you're not married to someone in the trade who shouts at the telly for the show's inaccuracies. I've enjoyed all the series, but have to remember it's telly-land and not real life.

Today I watched Nikki Alexander's first appearance. Her character has changed a lot over the years. She's really rather sweet and very young- in the more recent episodes I find her a bit too cloyingly nice.

veraswaistcoat · 07/02/2025 00:44

The guy who killed the people in the Syrian restaurant had served in Syria. It's that simple.

hopeishere · 05/02/2025 21:29

The dress was lovely but the flowers were hideous !

deeahgwitch · 07/02/2025 07:48

Thank you @veraswaistcoat for the link to the dress.
Though on me it would look hideous as I am not a 5ft 6, teeny, tiny, pretty, blonde with big brown eyes Smile

veraswaistcoat · 07/02/2025 12:57

I tried several dresses from that company when I was getting married but they looked ridiculous on me but I was at an advanced age. Beautiful dresses though!

I went back to Series 14 as I tried a few before that but I wasn't keen on the naked dead people and the effects and production seemed clunky, although I am sure they were good for their time

Mochudubh · 07/02/2025 19:17

Ok, I get it now. They're doing a Waterloo Road and moving the whole kit and caboodle hundreds of miles away.

As I say, I only really catch the last few minutes of each episode as I usually watch something on Netflix then turn over for the news.

Tigresswoods · 09/02/2025 08:54

Just caught up. Do Nikki & Jack not have any friends (or family) apart from the 2 women they work with?!?

veraswaistcoat · 09/02/2025 13:05

Their work is their life 🤷‍♀️

Tigresswoods · 09/02/2025 21:44

What does Jack bring to that relationship???

Humour lol. Just so AWFUL. We laugh and laugh.

Tigresswoods · 09/02/2025 21:44

I suspect we're supposed to think he's fantastic in bed. Personally I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, and I'm surprised Nikki doesn't have better taste.

LittleMonks11 · 10/02/2025 08:52

Obvious innit. Jack is The Protector of Little Bird Nikki
