Starting this thread (as I did this time last year) as the comments on the episodes on telly addicts are always so funny it makes it worth while sitting through the totally unconvincing plots, characters, so called relationships and ...

But who knows maybe this year will be different!

BBC One - Silent Witness, Series 28, Exodus 20:17 - Part 1

The body of an elderly woman found in a cave presents a disturbing mystery for the Lyell.

I guessed who the perpetrator was, and the reasons behind it 😥
So sad.

BananaSpanner · 14/01/2025 22:51

Good episode.

tapdancingmum · 14/01/2025 23:42

The house in the first episode (last night) where the estate agent was found is a brand new house built just round the corner from me. We knew they were filming around here but assumed it was just on the common.

I enjoyed this week's story.

Sadly, very believable

Mairzydotes · 15/01/2025 06:26

I don't understand why she killed the journalist.

Or how she managed to bludgeon to death a group or several people in the historic case. Perhaps they were incapacitated when she got there?

What was the significance of the survivor? Had she been using someone else's identity?

kerstina · 15/01/2025 09:05

Thought these two episodes were very gripping. Hard to follow at times or rather you need to concentrate.

I've had it on in the background and am a bit loss, think I will need to start again 🤦‍♀️

I think that happened because her sister was diagnosed & he was "dragging his feet" about the article.

I found the historic case difficult to understand also.

Something I couldn't quite decide/figure out.

It wasn't also her for the prison guard was it?

Presumably it was him that had sparked everything.

It was her that attacked him . They were the sisters foster carers and he assaulted the other one. She attacked him with his own hammer, but he managed to get another man put away for it.

Thank you, that's what I thought when Meg was remembering & it was at their house.

Also that he was still so on edge about it.

Popfan · 15/01/2025 18:21

I really don't understand why she killed the writer guy!

Because she thought that he had wasted Claire's time-time that she now no longer had.

He wouldn't commit to publishing I think.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 15/01/2025 18:35

After a French & Saunders pastiche, I still think of it as 'Witless Silence'.

Thanks for this as it was the part of the plot I couldn't get straight in my head.

I too thought it a much better episode, and really didn't need Nikki and Jack at all!

But as said up thread, all very believable in terms of the politics, cover ups, and those valued least by society paying the price.

Maybe we can start a campaign to get rid of Jack and Nicky. Even in RL no one I know likes them as a couple!

Yes, I thought is was a good one.

The ramifications of others' actions.

Yes particularly the housing angle .

aliceinawonderland · 15/01/2025 21:12

I don't understand:
Why the Heron Point people were murdered
Why she got asbestosis so quickly... I thought that even when people used to work with it, machining it day in day out, they didn't develop the fatal mesothelioma for several decades.

LittleMonks11 · 15/01/2025 21:39

Just finished. Thought it was a great two parter. Really gripping. Sad. Resonating.

And I have skirt version of Nicky's Me + Em blouse at the end there 😁

Is it me or are the autopsies getting more grisly?

tennissquare · 17/01/2025 18:44

Emilia Fox is interviewed on the (extremely light weight) podcast Binge (with Alex Jones and Harry Judd) this week and says that series 29 is being filmed in Birmingham, the whole production has been moved there so there should be quite a change coming at the end of this series (maybe why the number of staff is so small at the Lyell centre so they didn't have to introduce too many characters for only 1 series).

veraswaistcoat · 18/01/2025 23:41

As usual there is so much political statement in these programs. As for the housing one it was predictable from the beginning. What's with the helplines for everything that is mentioned in the series- helpline for addiction, helpline for this and that. How about a helpline for crap stories and hideous waistcoats as worn by Jack ? 😂

Its not very funny for those who are living it.

veraswaistcoat · 19/01/2025 11:57

Nothing is really very funny in real life but I don't think shows like this do much to actually change it. The 😂 was about Jack's waistcoat if you had read my post properly.

I've been on another thread where I mentioned one of the best Autobiographies I've read and thought I should mention it here as it might appeal to others who enjoy a bit of forensic pathology (this one's real though!)

Dr Richard Shepherd - Unnatural Causes
It's a fascinating account of all the cases he covered and I enjoyed listening to him read it on Audible.
