Starting this thread (as I did this time last year) as the comments on the episodes on telly addicts are always so funny it makes it worth while sitting through the totally unconvincing plots, characters, so called relationships and ...

But who knows maybe this year will be different!

BBC One - Silent Witness, Series 28, Exodus 20:17 - Part 1

The body of an elderly woman found in a cave presents a disturbing mystery for the Lyell.

If I were the cops. I'd be asking Nikki and Jack if they have any work to be getting on with and to stop hanging about doing their jobs.

Go on, away with you both

The government scaling down the police and just letting everyone in the Lyle centre solve all the crimes

hopeishere · 07/01/2025 19:34

So glad Velvy is gone. And hopefully the annoying niece as well. Nikki and Jack have zero chemistry. It will end in tears.

Still not enough forensics for my liking.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 07/01/2025 21:30

I'm confused, is the old man stuff in the past and the is he one of the bodies?

KohlaParasaurus · 07/01/2025 21:31

Haven't worked it out, but I'm cautiously optimistic about the latest new team member. (I liked Velvy and the niece too, though.)

Houseplanter · 07/01/2025 21:46

Goodness me, what have the script writers been taking?! 🤪

NowNumber5 · 07/01/2025 21:47

Does anyone else see Peter Kay when the local policewoman comes on the scene?

KohlaParasaurus · 07/01/2025 21:51

Killing is always wrong and all that, but DH and I gave the old man a big cheer. I still don't know what's going on.

EDIT about 30 seconds later: Oops, shouldn't have encouraged him.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 07/01/2025 21:53

So now the old boy is going to get done for murder

Houseplanter · 07/01/2025 21:57

It's all bonkers.

The policewoman did nothing about her being missing, just assumed he was senile

The old man survived being unconscious in a river, and was well enough to murder

Far fetched in the extreme

gingercat02 · 07/01/2025 22:00

I'm just catching up. I have watched it since the beginning, and I still miss Harry 😍
It does get shitter with every series, sadly. I knew I would hate Jack and Nicky as a couple, and I do.
The new prof might grow on me, I didn't really like Thomas at the beginning either.

CrushingOnRubies · 07/01/2025 22:01

Was I watching call the midwife at the end or silent witness -

BananaSpanner · 07/01/2025 22:01

What was the scam? They bump off old people then rent their houses out? Why did he need to work in the care home for that? Who was the lad that got murdered? Just a random?

JenniferBooth · 07/01/2025 22:04

Perhaps the script writers read a few Mumsnet threads where the housing crisis was being blamed on pensioners and used them as a jumping off point!

2025hello · 07/01/2025 22:05

The old man managing to get up from the river and home (by bus? Taxi?) and hide in his house to then pounce is so far fetched. How they don't manage to laugh at how incredulous it all is.

This has always been DH issue, I still secretly love it.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 07/01/2025 22:06

How on earth did a programme that used to be so good get this bad, and why doesn’t someone put it out if its misery?

TitsInAbsentia · 07/01/2025 22:08

I'm wondering if it's always been shit but I just never realised it. Shall we all go back and watch S1Ep1 to check!

KohlaParasaurus · 07/01/2025 22:08

I assumed that the old man being unconscious and in the river was some sort of dream sequence.

Hoppinggreen · 07/01/2025 22:11

Pancakeorcrepe · 07/01/2025 15:01

It’s revolting! Canoodling on the forensics desk with their legs and arms all entwined. Wtf

Most unprofessional.
We love it, its hilariously bad.
Nicki does seem to have a great array of sweater vests this time

And list all the horrid things that happened to Nikki.

Buried alive - tick

Mistifiedme · 07/01/2025 22:15

@BananaSpanner I think the point of working in the care home was to pick out their targets, to make sure there was no relatives who would ask questions. It was briefly mentioned last night when they targeted the old man.

I assume the 2 scammers were brothers since they looked similar, and based on the care home guys smug "prove it" i think the dead guy was the one doing all the actual physical dirty work, whereas CH guy was the target picker.

hattie43 · 07/01/2025 22:25

I used to love this show in the Amanda Burton days but I lost interest years ago with the new stars . It's not the stars per se but wondered if they bought new writers on board because it just didn't hold my attention. Think its time to retire it really

Want to know this

Also want to see the interviews in police custody.

Finished a bit abruptly

aliceinawonderland · 07/01/2025 22:37

I loved these two episodes though agree about the Nikki/Jack cringe. The old man didn't seem at all senile ... if adult social services were called just because one has forgotten where one's tea is, then I'm on their list!!
However he was a sandwich short at the end, though he must have been so irritated by all the nitwits around, especially the dim and condescending police officer.
And why didn't the young couple just say to the old man when he asked for Gloria... "oh sorry, we've just moved in ( ie a week ago) but such and such agent might have the details of the person who was here before", as opposed to implying they'd always been there. It was a rational question to ask.
Didn't portray anyone really in a good light.
