Starting this thread (as I did this time last year) as the comments on the episodes on telly addicts are always so funny it makes it worth while sitting through the totally unconvincing plots, characters, so called relationships and ...

But who knows maybe this year will be different!

BBC One - Silent Witness, Series 28, Exodus 20:17 - Part 1

The body of an elderly woman found in a cave presents a disturbing mystery for the Lyell.

At 6 a.m. this morning I realised the 'friends' were all in his head!

I got it after the incident in the shop (smug)

Domestic abuse also.

I agree and meant to put that in along with the overprotective behaviour. Hearing him talk made me think of the various posts on here over the years of domestic abuse and the things the men say that they think is just caring but it really isn't.

was it really necessary to ship a baby grand into the workplace?

It does happen. When I was starting out I had a Senior who had a saxophone in his office. He used to try to play it to cope when we were all under particular stress or the morning after an argument with his wife. It was tortuous. You could always tell when he was 'playing' it because the car park would suddenly empty as we all rushed off with screeching tyres to attend to urgent matters elsewhere. My shoulders have tensed up towards my ears just thinking about it, even all these many years later!

But a baby grand? Wind instruments, most strings - even cellos - can be carried into the office fairly easily. But a large piece of furniture which needs space around it? You won't even be able to hear the sound properly in an office that size. Plus I wouldn't be spending that money and leaving a good instrument permanently in the workplace!

Shipping in a digital upright and forgetting to use the headphones would slightly more credible.

Trying to work out if these episodes are poorly written, poorly acted.... or both?! 😣

WingingItSince1973 · 04/02/2025 21:01

Chatting to my dd last night as we watched and I said I can't put my finger on it but Jack reminds me of someone. She said he looks like Elon musk if Elon worked out. Now I can't unsee it 🤢

JenniferBooth · 04/02/2025 21:13

"how do you know it was him that left the flowers"

FFS!

BotterMon · 04/02/2025 22:00

This ending is all a bit cringe.

NowNumber5 · 04/02/2025 22:03

Right.
I'm SO cross they kept Dawn outside of the school, well within hearing of her dad being shot.
They knew it was more than likely the outcome of the siege😭

Also, was the indecent proposals between Mr Dogger and Jack necessary? It was bad enough having Mrs Dogger looking at Jack lasciviously.

LOVED Nikki's dress, though not quite enough to marry Jack for it 😆

Hotafternoon · 04/02/2025 22:06

I've hardly watched any of this latest series it's so awful.

Nicki's dres has been the only highlight.

It used to be so good too. 🙁

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 04/02/2025 22:07

Cannot believe they’ve married them. Zero zero chemistry. Working and living together.

Mochudubh · 04/02/2025 23:08

Only caught the last few minutes as I turned over for the news. the whole dancing in Trafalgar Square - boak inducing. I hope both the other characters apply for the job in Birmingham and they're so good they take both of them on and we have a spin-off.

CrushingOnRubies · 04/02/2025 23:33

Really hope that isn't the last we see of kit & Harriet

Loved Nikki's wedding dress. But really didn't need to see that bedroom scene

Love Amy Nuttall has an actress. And I recognise the chap who died in the car from something too.

NowNumber5 · 05/02/2025 00:05

@Mochudubh @CrushingOnRubies
Both Kit and Harriet got job offers too at the new set up in Birmingham so they'll be in the new series 🙌

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 05/02/2025 06:27

All I kept thinking was, there is no way you'd see stars or even that many stars in central London due to light pollution.

I think it's a bit sad that neither of them have any friends either.

I did enjoy this series though.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 05/02/2025 07:08

Yes agreed about the friends thing.

RosesAndHellebores · 04/02/2025 18:57

I rather liked it. Sitting on my hands to avoid a spoiler.

And now I'll say what I was thinking. It would have been great if she'd called Harry to come and give her away (when they were thinking of a big wedding) and they had both realised there was chemistry and always had been and ran away together.

JollyTallTeddy · 05/02/2025 08:08

I've been bingeing on the series from the beginning. Harry is rather gorgeous isn't he? Sam has just left and we haven't got Nikki yet. I'm interested to see how that plays out. I agree with those who said how much the series has changed.
Ed to add that Sam might have been married to her work, but she also has a history and a social life ( even if she does at times have a shocking taste in men!)

I did enjoy this series though.

The friends thing was just weird and in the end not even Jack's daughter was there. Two adult professionals, at least one of whom manages to form easy relationships with others and not a single friend relationship between them. Just the latest in a chain of colleagues as the required witnesses.

Perhaps next season they will be the secret perpetrators of the murders...

FuzzyPuffling · 05/02/2025 08:25

I couldn't understand why they seemed to get married in London but ended up outside Birmingham Town Hall and the Floozie in the Jacuzzi.

Me neither but hasn't the Beeb built a very expensive set of new studios near Birmingham?

I imagine a number of popular London based series will find their in story location moving to new offices in Birmingham (if they haven't already moved to Media City or Cardiff).

They used Royal Holloway University in Egham last series for some of the University lecturing scenes. It didn't make sense when there are universities in actual London. And there is no way a campus like that would be in central London.

Shetlands · 05/02/2025 09:27

I enjoyed the plot and the investigation of these last two episodes. Things that annoy me are:

  • Nicky being able to put her hair up into neat French plaits on the way to a murder scene;
  • Nicky & Jack's awful 'romance';
  • Limited police involvement in crime investigations.

I think they have dialled back on Nikki and Jack running to solve it all though. In the last series they would have been at that school dealing with the standoff.

I assume working for the home office will give them more scope for storylines.

Nikki's dress was gorgeous. Her and Jack are so unbelievable. As was the lack of friends. And the annoying niece not being there.

Cattery · 05/02/2025 13:51

I realised the mates must be voices in his head quite early on but what I wanted to say was about the complete lack of chemistry between Nicki and Jack. They’re both lovely in their own ways but I don’t think she’d have been interested in him romantically. He’s kind of wooden. Plus they are from completely different classes (I know, I know). It seems like the writers just sort of put them together because they couldn’t think of what else to do with them. I’ve said it before but I still think Nicki would have been better matched with Harry or even Leo. Golden days of Silent Witness.
