I must be the only person I know who hates open plan. The noise would drive me insane within a week.

Sweetiedarling2024 · 26/02/2025 20:54

Did anyone else see at the start that it said the house was Edwardian? It’s clearly 1930s ffs.

The dad just needs to get a job closer to home, they live within commuting distance to London fgs.

Meredusoleil · 26/02/2025 20:56

Really don't like the new utility in the conservatory. Plus the fridge freezer seems to be in there?!? Or was that just a tall cupboard?

They seem to have whitewashed pretty much all the walls and kitchen. What happened to the green paint they were testing out?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2025 20:58

Knew it.

I was right

preens self

it’s the distance

Thank goodness. Very sensible of them. Didn't think they were going to budge tbh.

This couple are silly! Why doesn't he find a job closer to home?

Exactly. There was nothing wrong with the house that money and effort couldn't fix. It was plenty big enough for them. Even moving to Rugby would have left him with over an hour's commute plus made her commute almost an hour and away from her family who I assume help with school runs when she's working and he's away. The current location works for her but moving would have made it awkward for both.

He spoke about the house going into disrepair...er that's because you've done bugger all with it for years. Nuts.

He said it was a great opportunity he didn’t want to turn down. They should have moved to Manchester.

Indeed!

What was all that stuff they had to remove from the loft? Had they put it there or did a survey not pick it up when they bought the house? How much did it cost to remove? Enough to stop them doing the full refurb and then for Kirstie to mysteriously refer to it when unveiling the new values. I thought last night’s programme was a nice reminder of why you should never buy a doer-upper unless you are actually going to do it up (snd that it will be much harder to do so if you both work full time and one of you is away three nights a week). It was a lovely house, but a bit of a tip. Do you think they were instructed to make it as messy as possible for the ‘before’ visit? The utility room in the conservatory is one of the worst ideas I have seen on the show.

They should have pulled that conservatory down. It blocked the light so made the whole back of the house seem gloomy and weird.

Doingmybest12 · 27/02/2025 07:50

I liked the idea of using the conservatory like that, really useful for young children and gardeners. Most people say they aren't a liveable space so good storage and an extra sink seems like a good idea.

I thought that was awful!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2025 13:08

I thought made a change from total open plan but could see the kids /chat to people - almost like a breakfast bar

I’m not sure if I misheard but initially their ‘love it’ budget was 50k, then because of their roof, they lost a third of it. So they didn’t do some of the works that Kirstie suggested yet I’m sure at the end they said they’d spent 54k excluding the roof work. What they did was decent but I’m struggling to see 54k worth of work.

I think they always intended to list but wanted help where to start on their house.

I wonder if they went to Rugby or moved further north for his job.

MrsDrDear · 27/02/2025 14:48

It sounded like a move to Manchester to me after Paul saying they had an opportunity.

Since when did the master/main bedroom become the 'primary' bedroom? Phil and Kirstie both said it last night.

Anjo2011 · 27/02/2025 14:53

Couple buy home with no money/time/inclination to renovate. A costly mistake from the beginning. Downstairs looked better, the new bathroom was a strange choice. The wood and tiles were awful. They would be better in a new build where they don’t have to anything. I bet they haven’t moved and are still there with no progress.

tothelefttotheleft · 27/02/2025 15:02

Hated the kitchen floor as it made it look very busy. Also didn't like the bizarre bathroom walls and wood sink thing.

mewkins · 27/02/2025 15:45

What I found strange was that her job was described as a job. His was a 'fantastic opportunity '....was it actually a job?? I missed the start😆

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2025 15:47

I’m assuming his job was very well paid

Hmmm, I'm not so sure of that. I felt like they'd dragged their heels on renovating due to cost and the relocation to Rugby (made no sense as they would then both have to commute) was about getting more for their money. The great opportunity sounded like it could become something rather than actually was something. Also, absolutely no mention of moving to Manchester.

MulberryPeony · 27/02/2025 16:10

I liked the utility in the conservatory - not the only one I’ve seen like that. I’m unsure about the hole in the wall. I don’t consider what they did to add any value though. Wonder if they ever got around to converting the old utility into something. Like a PP said they hadn’t done anything to the house since buying it then wondered why it looked shit.

Alltheusernamesaretakennow · 27/02/2025 16:41

How many times did the camera zoom in on the broken chest of drawers? Not keen on the wall panels they put in the bathroom.

Seems like they took on too much with 2 young children when they bought the house originally.

It is being described more and more as the principal bedroom rather than the master bedroom in lots of property particulars that I've seen. Plus on escape to the country they generally say principal bedroom now. I think it's to distance it away from the master of the house, which is a bit old fashioned.
