Irish fella is smashing it again

TinyMouseTheatre · 26/01/2025 20:21

Thank you @AlicePottery Wink

TokyoSushi · 26/01/2025 20:23

I think hula Steven might end up going.

TokyoSushi · 26/01/2025 20:23

Steve & James are miles ahead of the others

AlicePottery · 26/01/2025 20:23

I 100% preferred Steve's to James'

He is a bit out of his depth isn't he?

Steve & James are miles ahead of the others

They are aren't they? Consistent too.

Chrysanthemum5 · 26/01/2025 20:24

Im a little behind but I love the work of the guest potter

HeadNorth · 26/01/2025 20:27

Steve & James are in a different class. Controversially, I don’t like the guest judge’s pots, the idea sounds good but I just don’t think the finished look is all that.

Surely poor Stephen has to be put out of his misery this week.

TokyoSushi · 26/01/2025 20:20

Oh they're not cheap, but they're lovely!

Oh wow, they're really not are they? DD has a bit of a thing for nice mugs from Artisan Potters. She loves her recent one from Glosters but these ones, although beautiful, might be a bit of a stretch...

I don't think it's controversial at all. We can't love every sort of pottery Wink

They're expensive but I'm not surprised as she's built up quite a following. Making pottery is ridiculously expensive once you factor everything in, I worked out it costs me about 5€ to make a bog standard cup in my garage, that's without counting my time.

stilldumdedumming · 26/01/2025 20:29

@HeadNorth me neither. It actually doesn't seem that skilful to me. But I'm not a potter and so I probably don't understand what's involved

Does that include firing?

DD had a go at pot throwing at Wedgwood and it turns out she's actually pretty good for a novice. She's just asked for a wheel...

AlicePottery · 26/01/2025 20:31

We have some great pottery markets where I live, the average price for a cup is about 30€.
Online some potters I follow sell them for over 100€ (they sell out in seconds).

me neither, but to be fair I think they are probably very marmite so can see than they would appeal to lots of people.

Agree poor Stephen has reached the end of the yellow pottery road.

I like the prefired matte look but not the finished thing, too shiny.

The contestants’ pots all look beautifully smooth!

Wolfcub · 26/01/2025 20:32

I think Imi is going before Stephen

SoupDragon · 26/01/2025 20:34

I can't watch the bit where they take them out in case they drop them

Wolfcub · 26/01/2025 20:35

The sugar was great.

TinyMouseTheatre · 26/01/2025 20:36

@AlicePottery was it coloured slip that the Potter was using? It's not cheap is it?

SereneFish · 26/01/2025 20:39

These are looking amazing except the one who took the pots out too soon (can't remember her name)

stilldumdedumming · 26/01/2025 20:39

Has anyone ever dropped it. The woman with the lightbulbs. Is not going on her feet. I'm not either so I notice this.

She uses coloured porcelaine, some of the colours are very expensive, others are ok, it all depends on the ingredients, some oxides are ridiculously priced (the prices have more than tripled in the past 5 years). She adds gold luster on her stuff too, I asked for some for Xmas, at over 100€ for 2.5g I haven't even dared to use any yet 😅

I don't like Diane's
