Anyone watching?

OP posts:
Caterguin · 09/03/2025 22:14

I think they wanted James and were disappointed by the way it broke; hence 'feelings'. I think any one of them could have done it though. Maybe it should have been all 3.

Caterguin · 09/03/2025 22:15

And if you're going to base it on what they produce in one episode, then they should stick to that.

Yes, when they were saying to James how annoyed they were about the handle it was obvious that they wanted him to win.

This year I loved everyone except Mr Hula Hoop Man, who was a bit like a
n insufficiently washed Bill Oddie for me. But it was nice to really root for so very many of them and hope they all do well.

Francesca the kiln technician... 3 years on if Princess moves on, has Fran got a job?

Fatloss · 09/03/2025 22:19

Glad to see I’m not the only one. To win a lot of the challenges you need to have an interesting life of holidays, childhood memories and family. I know it’s just an entertainment show but I wish more of the challenges were on theme like a specific animal or maybe fruit.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 09/03/2025 22:21

James felt like the winner from episode 1 (and I think i that's my favourite thing he made) but then over time he didn't seem to progress consistently like previous winners have.

By contrast I think the other two really developed their skills. At the end I didn't think any of them were the standout winner but I am surprised they overlooked the broken handle because I don't think they would have been so generous to anyone else in that position.

James cardboard box fireplace was incredible though despite it not being what was requested.

I didn't know Siobhan does some pottery, on the Facebook site it says she makes all her own earrings. There's lots of extra little videos of behind the signs and some demonstrations.

Chrysanthemum5 · 09/03/2025 22:23

Steve's was far and away the best make today - if they are going to make their decision in advance of the final they should be honest

Hedjwitch · 09/03/2025 22:35

Sad for Steve but really glad James won.
I didn't warm to Natalie and her artfully daubed smears of clay on her face.

Pancakeflipper · 09/03/2025 22:37

Steve's creation was the best tonight. So clever, so him and yet appealing to many.

James has been the best throughout and very much agree with previous posters that the others grew more throughout the series.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/03/2025 22:42

James has been my favourite from the beginning but I think Steve's pot was better tonight in terms of the build and also the decorative cohesion. But I guess it was a bit 'flat' compared to the others? I was hoping they'd give the two men joint first place - I think that would have been the fairest thing.

SleepingisanArt · 09/03/2025 22:43

I was annoyed! They've sent people home this series for 'schoolboy' errors like stress cracks so a broken handle should not have been allowed on the winning piece. Not fair to change the judging criteria just because you like someone's style.....

Mimilamore · 09/03/2025 22:43

Love it.... this one was a good un!

Totally agree, beardy man was robbed, perfect pot and perfect decoration, he should've won.

No I didn't either,not sure why.

Me neither…i tried.

I felt she over played everything, overly animated…i wonder if with her performing background, if she is more interested in the media/presenting side and trying to line herself up for opportunities. Can quite see her popping up here and there.

Notaflippinclue · 09/03/2025 23:09

What a fix!

Fatloss · 09/03/2025 23:12

Been lovely sharing throwdown with you all.

Breathmiller · 10/03/2025 07:46

I loved that James won, despite the handle . I can see how it is controversial though to win with that.

I think I wanted James to win from early on as I think his style is great and he just pushes the envelope a bit. I loved the box fireplace but also his illustrations and colours at the beginning.. i did worry each week would be the same style but I think he got braver and stepped out of his comfort zone. I do think he lost it a bit midway through the series and Steve then picked up the baton and I really thought he would win at a few points.

Halfway through last night's I presumed James had lost it (a bit like the fireplace) but then pulled it out the bag. I did really like Steve's, the idea was great and he did the animation so well, especially the kangaroos but it just didnt feel done as a whole as well as I was expecting. It looked a bit...messy, untidy considering he was precise with lasers. Now, I don't mind messy when its meant but this felt it could have or should have been tighter. Like a pp said, it felt a little flat.

Nathalie has done some great work throughout but last night's was not her strong point and James and Steve were just stronger contenders all round.

I do also think they could have both won and it could have been a tie between James and Steve if we look at the whole series.

Good to read all your chat after the shows. See you all next series.

TheQueensCousin · 10/03/2025 10:29

Loved James's and I do think it was the best despite the handle. BUT did anyone else notice that Steve's still had all the pencil guide marks on after the final firing? I don't think that this was intentional and could have lost him marks although it was never mentioned!
Also, and I might have missed this, Steve wasn't interviewed at the end only James and Natalie??

Quebeccles · 10/03/2025 10:37

I'm pretty sure he must have meant those marks to be there, though? In my (limited) understanding, don’t pencil marks disappear in the firing? They were animation cells in pot form and I suspect on acetate they would be numbered, so he was recreating that. That’s my supposition anyway.

Turophilic · 10/03/2025 11:40

I agree, @Quebeccles , they were deliberate and part of the design. I thought it was great; I do love hand drawn animation.

Ah I see now. Just my opinion but I don't think it added to it.

Yes they usually disappear in the firing so I was confused as to why they were still there and the vertical hand drawn lines too.

Cel divisions and numbering, all part of hand drawn animation.
