I agree, as they were judging they pointed out that she'd chosen the defective pot because it looked better which was a bit daft for a functional piece.

But didn't Francesca say that it was a decorative piece so the crack wouldn't matter? Or am I remembering it wrong?

Yes she did. The pot didn't need to hold water or anything.

Didn't see the point of the kiln building whatsoever! Would rather have seen them in a proper kiln with the red effect.

They are running out of new stuff to do.

I rather thought that when they airily announced the challenge in Ep 5 - make a psykter vase. Everyone just nodded along but most of the viewership must have going: eh? Who’s heard of one of those? Who uses a posset-pot nowadays?

It's like Bake-Off when they started off with nice Victoria sponges and battenbergs and these days they’re desperately thumbing through the ‘Cakes Around the World' books and getting them to make Baumkuchens and Japanese soufflé cheesecakes 😅

Does it always have to be new stuff though? I wouldn't care if they had some of the same tasks they had in previous series. They'd all come up with something different and that would be interesting to see. Bake Off has got a bit silly by trying to come up with new challenges e.g. moving biscuit sculpture or hanging cake!

AlicePottery · 26/02/2025 18:46

I definitely think they should redo some challenges from previous series. I'd like them to make sinks again. And the fireplaces were quite cool too.
As for the spot tests there are a million things they could do which are way less random than that weird pot for wine. I'd quite like to see week where they have to follow a recipe and make their own glaze from scratch.

Siobhan’s dress is a Joanie/ Laura Ashley dress. I have it in a different style but the shape of Siobhan’s is very similar to my wedding dress from 1975. Yes I wore a printed wedding dress.

Her dress was very similar to a Laura Ashley dress I wore as a bridesmaid in the early 80s. Lovely dress but not great to wear on a boiling hot day.

Piggywaspushed · 27/02/2025 16:27

Was it actually vintage though or can I get it anywhere?

TinyMouseTheatre · 27/02/2025 17:52

Glad to see that the Birdbaths are going on display. Don't know why they won't be on display at Gladstone Pottery Museum though.

In 1972, had a flared maxi skirt in this swan print, dark grey on purple slate. I absolutely loved it! Laura Ashley was a big part of my life as a teenager. I'm from Newtown, those who know will know!

It's so ill fitting it's ridiculous! And his shirt sleeves cover his hands!

AlicePottery · 02/03/2025 19:55

Would have been nice to see a few more examples of what they're after!

Just as well Francesca went. That fireplace is the size of her.

Fatloss · 02/03/2025 19:56

Evening all - didn’t like the bit at the beginning

Yes - it was silly and far too long.

SabrinaThwaite · 02/03/2025 19:58

That clay looks very gritty.

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/03/2025 19:58

@LillyPJ he doesn't seem to consider his body shape when dressing but he seems happy

I think Siobhan always looks good

Wolfcub · 02/03/2025 20:04

I think our two top potters are going to have a tough time
