in the first eviction, did Keith spell Nathan "Nather"? Together with that and his comment that Yin was clearly very intelligent "because she was reading the BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY" (said in a flabbergasted manner), I don't think he was the brightest tool in the shed. Probably would have been a good one to leave in for a while.

Agree so much about the excess of crying and screaming. And the hugging and walking arm in arm and declaring how much you love each other 🤮
YOU'VE ONLY KNOWN ONE ANOTHER 48HRS!
I'd be voted out as a traitor for being too unemotional. Blonde Army woman's reaction when Linda started hugging and kissing her at the end would pretty much be mine all the way through.

I'm wondering whether there's more to Charlotte's fake Welsh accent. It just seems like such a bizarre thing to do, and so risky if there is another welsh person in the house. Surprised Elen didn't query it more - I'm actually Welsh and her accent itself isn't too bad, dropping in and out slightly - but when she said she could only count to 5 - at her age it would have been compulsory to take it to GCSE, so pretty much anyone, fluent or not, should be able to count to at least 10 and say a few basic phrases - my 3 year old niece doesn't go to a welsh language school but knows that! The only thing I can think of atm is that she is related to one of the others but wants to throw them off the scent?

Don’t forget that Jaz last year hadn’t heard of Agatha Christie and said last night on Uncloaked that he had never read a book. Lots of people don’t read.

ChoccyJules · 02/01/2025 23:32

I have just caught up with both episodes back to back via I-player. My first niggle was why one of the sisters didn’t get off the train, it seemed obvious to me, they could still share any money won. Having seen the episodes I now realise that Armani at least would never do that!
I am surprised Linda didn’t get banished by now but they suddenly all turned on Elen.
I think they can tell there is something about Charlotte, as she must be giving off scheming vibes, it’s just not because she’s a traitor.
I like Army Barbie, just wondering if she’ll ever tell them. I can understand why she hasn’t.
Bit of a shame we didn’t get to see more of Nathan and Alexander, they had some back stories I reckon.

Yes, I was wondering whether that would have been a giveaway to Elen. I would have thought most of people who did any language for GCSE would remember a few basics even if the grammar was slightly sketchier than it should be.

Exactly. I only did French for 3 years, not even GCSE and I can remember some basics like counting or ordering in a cafe.

APushbikeNamedReluctance · 02/01/2025 23:42

Once Elen started excessive crying i was just overcome with the need for her to be banished.

Regarding the spelling of names, I'm a pretty poor speller myself, so I'm felt some sympathy for Keith and decided he wrote "Nathen" and just didn't finish his n completely as I feel "Nathen" is a reasonably understandable misspelling depending on the accent you hear the name in.

I wonder if they ever get to see how everyone else spells their name. There can ofteb be some alternative ways for quite common names.

They all stay in a hotel in Inverness I believe, with lots of security on the different floors. The hotel is a travel lodge type job and they book out the whole thing. This we found out last year.

Personally I don’t think the tower is in the castle. It looks like a set to me. I think the set is in a warehouse or even the conference room of the hotel. That way they aren’t travelling for a long time to go back to the hotel. The scenes of them in cloaks walking around at night are crew who are the same build.

I also think that there are two diary rooms which are identical. One at the castle and one at the hotel.

Edinburgh surely, not Inverness! Thats miles away.

Possibly. But I’m sure it was established last year it was Inverness. I could be wrong though. I do recall it took about an hour to get to the hotel.

I know we’ve only just finished episode 2 but there hasn’t been anyone likeable yet to me. What about you guys?

I have to disagree there, I have warmed to this lot far more than the in previous years!!

Inverness is way closer to the castle than Edinburgh

Inverness is closest I think - 30 miles from the castle

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 02/01/2025 23:55

Edinburgh is almost 200 miles away - Scotland is big!

Yes, you are correct with Inverness.

Perhaps the other one is where the people who got off the train were taken!

UnNiddeRides · 03/01/2025 01:14

I think that the contestants are an interesting mix. Unlike a pp I can’t see much filler apart from a couple of the women. I do wonder if there will be a startling relationship, e.g. the vicar & the one who wants the money for IVF.

ShesNotACowShesAFox · 03/01/2025 01:52

I already spotted the overuse of “myself” “yourself” - last year was a nightmare it sent me nuts. At one stage Harry said “Paul, from myself, I’m voting for yourself” Angry

That's gorgeous, I've got one quite similar and always receive compliments on it.

Totally agree, that drives me absolutely bonkers too. It just sounds so dense!

RonnieOmelettes · 03/01/2025 07:52

I assumed that when they apply, they need a hook, or a gimmick, to help make them interesting. The producers will know any kind of lie or deception would bring out some level of drama eventually.

We reckon they leave the castle much earlier than midnight and agree about the turret being a set.

Totally agree about all the I love yous. We keep shouting NO YOU DON’T at the telly.

I also keep thinking about in Big Brother 2(?) when the contestants used to sing ‘It’s only a game show’ to keep themselves grounded and a HUGE dose of that is needed here….you’d think they’d start to accept it’s not personal the more series there are but no.

Pumpkincozynights · 03/01/2025 07:56

I think last years contestants were using yourself/myself so as not to sound too impolite. They were underneath quite nice people, in the main, unlike the contestants on the USA show. The lack of understanding grammar was also a fact.
I would be doomed straight away, as I love to read and I don’t fit the young influencer mold.
What occupation does Charlotte claim to have? I’m wondering if she is lying about that too.
I hope the 3 who got off the train come back, I’d like to see more of them.

Pumpkincozynights · 03/01/2025 08:08

The issue with the contestants getting emotionally attached is interesting.
I personally do not care what happens in the lives of strangers, as long as it doesn’t affect me or my family. I really could not care less about anyone I will come across today. That includes people I come into contact with at work etc. I always find it odd when an randomer asks me about my day. For example some complete stranger calls me trying to sell me something then launches into a script asking if I have had a nice Christmas, what about New Year? Did you have plans? Maybe it’s just me but my mind goes to ‘What the hell do you care?’ And quite frankly what if I had a terrible Christmas, what on earth can you do about it? Just stop with all the fakeness, my guard is now up and you are marked as a person not to trust because you are disingenuine.
Don’t get me wrong, politeness is fine. Hello, how may I help? Fine. The rest I class as prying.
I will admit that I feign an interest in my boss’s life. That’s self preservation because they want me to care. They are the type of person who thinks it matters if you show a deep interest in what they did over the holidays.
Again, my chances of being accepted as a contestant are slipping away.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 03/01/2025 08:11

I really hope they bring back the 3 who left the train. The landscaper lad with the mullet looked a lot of fun!

All the blubbing is getting on my wick. I hope that’s the end of it now that Elen has gone.

Samcro · 03/01/2025 08:46

sadly the 3 who got of the train looked interesting.
I only really like IVf guy. blonde beautician girl, army girl, curtains and vicar at the moment.
non welsh person is just daft and gobby traitor is beyond irritating. other young traitor reminds me of someone from how to get away with murder. so she needs to stay.

scissy · 03/01/2025 09:09

I said this on the other thread but I reckon they will bring back the other 3. My original guess was that when a traitor is banished the traitors get to recruit one of the train people or someone in the castle, and if they pick someone in the castle a person from the train is returned at random. Not sure how that would go down with this lot, but it's a similar play to some of the "werewolf" characters for those who know that game 😉

I've nicknamed this series the series of "the criers and the liars", as there's way way more crying than previous years and it's tedious already.

Sammy900 · 03/01/2025 09:30

"Nather" haha was it a nickname? Also I'm pretty sure Keith said "God smacked" instead of gob smacked bless him.

I also think on Uncloaked they are really amused by Lindas overacting..I can't say I've overly noticed this but will look out for it now.
