The most gripping reality game show is back! Tune in to BBC1 at 8pm on New Year's Day.

I'm buzzing!

The Australian version apparently had half ordinary people and half celebs but the "celebrities" were mainly reality show people I think (and not being Australian I couldn't tell who was who) but it totally killed the vibe, was so much poorer than the first series and ultimately ended up with the show being cancelled due to poor ratings.

I watched that. They also chose some incredibly stupid contestants.

Seen them all!

Yeah they were really dense and Sam was such an unlikeable traitor. The only thing Aus really had going for it was Roger. And if I didn't love Claudia so damn much I'd be wishing for a host exchange.

miffmufferedmoof · 30/12/2024 21:02

Yes, the second Australian series was by far the worst so far - too many contestants who were far too dumb.

Time40 · 30/12/2024 21:03

Oh what? It's back so soon? Wow - that will cheer up January!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 30/12/2024 21:04

@miffmufferedmoof dumb and arrogant. Never a good combo.

JimHalpertsWife · 30/12/2024 21:13

TV companies need to remember that viewers like watching the average Mrs Cannybody on shows like this. They don't need to make celeb versions.

It's tough when the best series on TV is on at the start of the year. Nothing else lives up to it!

Aintnobodygottime · 31/12/2024 00:28

The US one was the absolute worst as they assumed we all knew the ‘celebrities’ and as most of them were US reality stars I had no idea about them: it meant they never really introduced them, half the drama apparently came from their existing relationships with other players that were a total mystery to me, and the whole series ended up feeling like it had a massive old subtext that I just couldn’t read. Apparently the US network really likes this, even though it makes the show less sellable outside the US. I wouldn’t watch it again. The Aussie version had an element of that but nowhere near as much.

Who wants to take bets on a middle aged woman being first out? 😀

Yep.

ThePolarBearWhoLostHisCrown · 31/12/2024 01:05

Placemarking to catch up days after, I'm unlikely to watch while it's on. Can't wait to see what this series brings.

True but we need something to cheer us up in January!

I cannot wait! Will feel like a very long day until it starts at 8pm though…

dapsnotplimsolls · 31/12/2024 23:43

I can't wait!

JimHalpertsWife · 31/12/2024 23:56

Do we need a Traitors Bingo?

My guesses for the series:-

Claudia will wear a cowl knock chunky knit

There'll be a set of male/female twins so people won't know they are twins

Someone will be a psychic/medium type person and be voted out early on (and be wrong about their susses)

A traitor will be offered a hefty "leave now" bribe, but if they take it, they have to publicly out one of their fellow traitors.

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/01/2025 00:06

There'll be someone who works it all out but fails to convince the others.

Last year, Aubrey was first out by "murder".
Sonya was first banishment.

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 01/01/2025 01:46

Several of them are already annoying me from that article!

I enjoyed the celeb one, as the reality stars came across as so desperate, that they were even more desperate to win!

BeaLola · 01/01/2025 02:30

I was thinking we could have a married couple on this series ?

Not only this - normal people rather than celebrities, but also normal people being normal. Too often these shows try to one-up themselves by adding so many twists and quirky catches, spoils it for me.
See Big Brother for example. The first series was fascinating because it was normal people being normal. The more weird activities they added the more boring it got.
I hope The Traitors doesn't ruin itself by trying to be too extreme.

Gingerkittykat · 01/01/2025 05:50

I loved the American series with the mix of celebs and normal people. I had no idea who the celebs were but they were dramatic and it made great TV.

I'm a bit worried that this season is going to be too like the others and get a bit dull but will be watching anyway.

I meant a middle aged woman is generally the first person to be voted out.
I will also bet on an Asian man ( possibly woman but less likely) being the second or third person voted out for being sneaky and untrustworthy. It's been the case in most versions.

LuckysDadsHat · 01/01/2025 08:35

I cannot wait for tonight. Child will be going to bed early so I can watch it in peace!

rockingbird · 01/01/2025 09:00

I've never watched it 🙈 can you give me a quick summary of the show so I'm not going in completely blind.
