So many women pregnant, is there something in the water?
Wonder if they'll have a son or a daughter?
Joel's story lingers on, that's really too bad.
And now we have to put up with his mum and his dad.

Lauren's gonna do time, I wonder how long.
I guess she deserves it as she has done wrong.
Gail's gonna leave soon, after 50 whole years.
It'll be such a shame, there will many tears!

Bethany's putting on a brave face, though she's had a tough ride.
Daniel's still boring, and Kit's always snide.
Daisy's always got a snooty little pout.
And looks like she might just knock someone out..

Toyah and Nick have been secretly smooching.
Leanne knows all about it though, as she's always mooching.
Debbie's so funny, and Eileen's so droll
And Roy, a real favourite, is one of the best characters of all

Carla and Swain are getting quite close.
Not such a secret now, and nearly everyone knows.
Mason the baddie has gone quite good.
And Betsy always acts like she's Queen of the Hood!

Not much more to review for now.
But it's happy new year to us all.
I wonder how the Corrie cast will celebrate?
I bet they will have a ball. Grin

Happy new year everyone. Have a cracking 2025! 😄

Maureen Lipman is a great actress and Corrie struck gold when she agreed to join up. However is it realistic to think Evelyn can do a uni law degree which I think is at least 4 years. Not sure of her Evelyn age and I'm all for adult education etc (I did this myself in my mid forties) but the writers seem to be scraping the barrel somewhat with their ideas right across the board. 🤔

I agree. ^ I mean I know adults are allowed to get a degree whenever they want to. But doing it at nearly 80 seems a bit mad. I can't imagine most people this age doing this. I am nearly 60 and couldn't be arsed to be honest!

Also, do they allow you to take out student finance at that age? You would never pay it back!

I don't find the Swain/Carla thing that unbelievable. I think there are probably many lesbians/bisexuality women out there who weren't always attracted to women.

Women are different to many men in that they often fall for the person inside, rather than what's on the outside. They are deeper and more emotional than men, in general.

Carla has a disastrous history with men so it doesn't strike me as particularly strange she's opted for another option, particularly a strong woman like Lisa.

JMSA · 02/01/2025 11:50

It would have been much more realistic for Evelyn to have done a Paralegal training course.

I agree. Isn't that what Aaliyah is doing/did?

I like the Mason / Betsy relationship. There's no other 'normal' teen shenanigans going on. It's either gloom & doom & tears & wailing (Lauren) or serious ill health (jacks leg, Liam's mental health) or Hopes fire starting!

Carla & Lisa - meh. I get the relationship happening but it's going to be one of those "will they?" "Won't they?" ones and I can't be arsed.

So DeeDee and Daisy are going to have babies close together - like Sally and Gail! Jenny will be be a fab Grandma.

The chap Dev embraced wasn't Aadi apparently - Corrie execs have said he was just an extra.

PrincessScarlett · 02/01/2025 12:05

I did a law degree and there were 2 retired people in my year although they were in their 60s rather than 80s.

Shellingbynight · 02/01/2025 12:13

I think the problem with the Carla storyline is Swain. She is such an expressionless cardboard cut out that it’s very difficult to see why anyone would pay any attention to her.

I wondered the same thing about student finance Cellophane so I googled and there is no age limit. Evelyn clearly won’t be paying it back!

MonickerMonica · 02/01/2025 12:47

I think with regard to Carla/Swain (both very attractive ) it seemed to me a simple case of fancying and lust for each other. Fairly shallow but harmless but it's transpired their lives are poles apart and recently it shows that one has more feelings and commitment than the other. Whether gay/bi/straight or any other coupling initial fancying the pants off etc. can't realistically progress unless there's something deeper which develops.

It'll be interesting to see how the writers deal with this. They usually make a pig's backside of storylines so I doubt we'll be disappointed 🤸

TellingBone · 02/01/2025 15:59

Totally out of character for Carla to engage in this sort of subterfuge. She's a straight-talking tell-it-like-it-is woman in the classic Corrie tradition.

JMSA · 02/01/2025 16:13

@JellyBeanFactory

I like the Mason and Betsy thing too. I was delighted when Sal and Tim took him in!

CellophaneFlower · 02/01/2025 16:53

I worry Betsy is a bad influence on Mason.... which is something I never thought I'd say 6 months or so ago when he was threatening Liam with a knife with that menacing look he had (now replaced with a soppy side grin) 😂

eggandonion · 02/01/2025 16:57

Betsy and Hope together could cause chaos.
Mason just needs a bit of Sally love, he will be fine!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/01/2025 18:37

About Ken I a can understand (to a point) Tracy interfering that’s her Dad she’s worried about him being taken for a ride, fair enough.

However what’s he got to do with her who’s Steve is and isn’t shagging. She’s the one who cheated on left him. I’d get it completely if the boot was on the other foot.

SabreIsMyFave · 02/01/2025 20:16

Cassie had a bit of a look of worry/slight regret on her face last night when she was dishing out meds into Ken's drink, but she still carried on. I wonder why she is drugging him?

OP posts:
eggandonion · 02/01/2025 20:24

She's after kens money. I do think he is pleasant to her, and treats her well. But she's after the money.

But why drug him?

OP posts:
CellophaneFlower · 02/01/2025 20:36

She started drugging him as he told her he was better and had no more need for her. Then obviously she gave him the overdose, he ended up in hospital and he needed her again.

She changed to the antihistamines or whatever she's using now as they just make him sleepy. I think originally she was just doing it to keep her job but now she's getting greedy and wants more.

strugglingwithlife · 02/01/2025 21:50

Wouldn't Daisy need a DNA sample from at least one of the potential fathers to exclude the other?
Sarah is absolutely dreadful, has she forgotten her awful behaviour to Adam, sneaking around in hotels with Damon and she has the cheek to speak to Daniel like that.
He and Bethany had broken up, tbh should have stayed that way

Yes to all of this

Shellingbynight · 02/01/2025 21:59

Yes Cassie's behaviour is all about money. The antihistamines are to make Ken feel groggy so he feels like he needs her help. And now she's angling for more than carer status😬 and trying to get shot of all his family.

eggandonion · 02/01/2025 22:48

Poor Ken and his drugged sherry.
Is anyone nice? I suppose Tim is OK.And Frankie seems OK. The rest are either annoying or criminal.

JMSA · 02/01/2025 23:37

I feel so bad for Ken. He has always been thoroughly decent to Cassie.
I mean, I knew she had a bad side. But this is actually evil Sad

MissDeborah · 03/01/2025 08:10

Hmmm Kens not daft
I think he is aware of what she's up to

Shellingbynight · 03/01/2025 08:33

I don't think Ken has a clue what she's up to. If he had, he would sack her not bung her a few hundred pounds. I think she'll go too far though, surely Ken is not so vain that he'd seriously think Cassie would want to marry him for anything other than his money. (Actually he probably is!)

AmusedMaker · 03/01/2025 09:05

There are 2 storylines running at the moment which could be handled really well.

Carla & Lisa:
Realizing you’re a lesbian in later life.
I know this happens just from reading threads on here, and I get that it’s possible to fall in love with someone from the same sex, but ( from my limited knowledge on this subject ) surely those feelings have always been there? no matter how hidden? It’s as if Lisa gave Carla the ‘I really fancy you’ look and Carla just thought ‘ok, let’s give this a go’? Maybe that happens?
But I can’t help thinking if Peter came back she’d suddenly be heterosexual again. Which is fine
as plenty of people are bi-sexual. But it’s as if the writers aren’t sure where they’re going with this.

Cassie & Ken;
older ( lonely ) people being love scammed.
Happens all too often, so it’s good that this issue is being raised. I just hope Tracy catches Cassie out before she accidentally kills Ken with too many pills.

Shellingbynight · 03/01/2025 09:15

I agree @AmusedMaker It would be unusual for a woman with Carla's history to suddenly realise she was gay (or bisexual). She would have had plenty of opportunities to realise that in the past and she didn't have any particular reason to suppress those feelings. It just feels like giving Carla 'something to do' and has been done badly. It has been done really well on EastEnders with Suki.

And I had been thinking exactly the same about Ken and Cassie, it is the opportunity for such a good storyline but Cassie is such a panto villain and it is all being laid on with a trowel.

Of course! Thank you so much @CellophaneFlower

Thanks @Shellingbynight also, and the others who posted information about this. Smile
