So many women pregnant, is there something in the water?
Wonder if they'll have a son or a daughter?
Joel's story lingers on, that's really too bad.
And now we have to put up with his mum and his dad.

Lauren's gonna do time, I wonder how long.
I guess she deserves it as she has done wrong.
Gail's gonna leave soon, after 50 whole years.
It'll be such a shame, there will many tears!

Bethany's putting on a brave face, though she's had a tough ride.
Daniel's still boring, and Kit's always snide.
Daisy's always got a snooty little pout.
And looks like she might just knock someone out..

Toyah and Nick have been secretly smooching.
Leanne knows all about it though, as she's always mooching.
Debbie's so funny, and Eileen's so droll
And Roy, a real favourite, is one of the best characters of all

Carla and Swain are getting quite close.
Not such a secret now, and nearly everyone knows.
Mason the baddie has gone quite good.
And Betsy always acts like she's Queen of the Hood!

Not much more to review for now.
But it's happy new year to us all.
I wonder how the Corrie cast will celebrate?
I bet they will have a ball. Grin

Happy new year everyone. Have a cracking 2025! 😄

@CorporaINobbyNobbs · Yesterday 20:35

It’s just boring lazy writing. How many times has this happened now (in recentish years) - The other woman getting pregnant or partner not being father.

Steve, Michelle, Leanne.
Kevin, Abi, Imran.
Robert, Michelle, the other NI woman.
Gary, Sarah, Phelan’s daughter.
Adam, Sarah, prison dude.
Steve, Karen, Tracey
Lucy Peter Shelley!
Kevin, Molly, Ty

Yep it's ridiculous! So many pregnant women - who are pregnant with a man they're not dating/seeing/married to!

Don't forget Daisy, DeeDee, and Shona (just this past few weeks!) I mean, DeeDee was with Joel for a while (in a relationship,) but they were finished before she found out.

As you say, lazy writing. Get a new idea FFS. Hey maybe a couple can get married, and STAY married and have no affairs, and have 2 or 3 children (same mum and dad!) How wacky would THAT be?!!!!

Gemma and Chesney are the closest to this, as they have 4 children together. But that was only one pregnancy. And if I recall correctly, Gemma touched on cheating with a handsome fella she knew from the past. (She was seeing him secretly for 'coffees' and the like.) The storyline was so daft though, that Corrie ditched it quite quickly.

I saw an article about the new producer yesterday, and she hinted at upcoming storylines, all grim and harrowing ! Just what we need, aaargh. 😕

Oh FGS why? Confused Can we not have some funny and endearing storylines for a change? I'm sick of all the dark gritty shite, really I am! Hmm

I didn't bother watching "live" this year. The Corrie Christmas episodes were always something I looked forward to. I watched on catch up and sped through most of it to be honest.
If they are going down the grim and dark storyline path next year I might just pass all together. The world is dark and gloomy enough without having to watch more on the only soap I have ever watched!

Shellingbynight · 29/12/2024 13:41

Thank you for the new thread @SabreIsMyFave !

I read that interview with the producer too. I've clipped a section in case there was any hint spoilers in the rest of it (from Digital Spy)

-------

"I think it's important that we tell gritty, issue-led stories – and we've got those coming up in abundance – but it's about packaging them in the right way and keeping them fresh and different, without losing the DNA of Corrie.

"What makes Corrie so wonderful is the familiarity of it. It's the wit, it's the characters. All of these stories have been packaged with that in mind. That will be at the heart of every one."

Brooks continued: "I love telling stories in non-linear ways. I love big, bold, stunt storytelling. I think taking a story and telling it in a completely different way that changes people's perspectives is really good for the show. I want to do more of that. As long as we root these stories in reality then the audience will come with us.:

----

So it doesn't sound too bad, except for the 'non linear' nonsense, because I think what she means is endless bloody Joel style flashbacks.

JewelleryCat · 29/12/2024 13:49

There used to be wit and we used to love the characters but I don’t think there are characters you can like and gel with nowadays, not like in Classic Corrie (which I’m missing, can’t wait until it’s back on tv)

Shellingbynight · 29/12/2024 14:19

Yes I thought the same sadly. It used to be character focussed with great writing. At least she has acknowledged that is what viewers like about it. I'm probably hoping for a miracle though and we'll have an endless loop of characters we don't care about like Swain, Betsy, DeeDee, Gemma, Daniel, Bethany ...

JewelleryCat · 29/12/2024 15:00

There are some characters I don’t mind but some I really don’t like. I don’t mind DeeDee actually, I like her but I’m not keen on Betsy. I don’t believe Carla and Swain as a couple, no chemistry. I did quite like Daisy with Daniel and I’m leaning towards it being Daniel’s baby. I don’t like Cassie and let’s hope Tracy tears her down though I think with Tracy, she doesn’t have the fire she used to do in Classic Corrie

Shellingbynight · 29/12/2024 17:30

I like Carla but not with Swain, and I used to like DeeDee but she's never off screen and has become yet another crying miseryguts (see also Lauren).

I don't mind Daisy at all but she's had terrible storylines, the toing and froing with Ryan, Daniel, Kit is very annoying. Daniel is very annoying full stop.

Tracy has been underused, but surely it will be her who works out what Cassie is doing.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 29/12/2024 17:44

The new Harry actor is a vast improvement on the old one !

NCTDN · 30/12/2024 12:07

This with kit is ridiculous!

eggandonion · 30/12/2024 21:11

Whole episode later, Kit is still ridiculous.
Steve and Amy need to keep an eye on Cassie.

JewelleryCat · 30/12/2024 21:36

Just catching up on Corrie. Why does Shona need to talk about child benefit to David? Lily isn’t her child biologically, only David’s so Shona won’t get CB for Lily

Shellingbynight · 30/12/2024 21:56

So Kit is the new villain. At least he can act, unlike Joel and Uncle Stephen. I guess we'll be stuck with him till next Christmas.

The storylines are painful, but I liked the scenes with Shona and David.

The only thing Leanne is good at is self pity.

Edited

Yes I thought that too!

Scutterbug · 30/12/2024 22:36

She can still get CB surely? Grandparents for example can claim it if the child lives with them.

So step parents can get it? I’ve never heard of that before but if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. Didn’t know that about grandparents either

Roryno · 30/12/2024 23:59

Only just found you!
It will definitely be Daniel’s baby, not Kit’s, because it will have more impact. Bethany should just leave when she finds out, but she won’t, as Bethany and Daisy sneering at one another is one of Corrie’s favourite plots.

Why is Shona wanting David back? She was the one saying the marriage might be over last week? And David is vile, gaslighting her as though it’s all her fault. She should leave him.

EachandEveryone · 31/12/2024 01:27

Bethany is pregnant in real life though so she will have to go at some point.

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 31/12/2024 07:10

Stay off social media and press today if you don’t what to know a storyline covering next year. I have come across it twice this morning already and without looking.

AmusedMaker · 31/12/2024 07:23

Thank you Cottonheadedninhymuggins

HurdyGurdy19 · 31/12/2024 07:54

I accidentally saw a spoiler from The Sun on Facebook yesterday. I don't even follow that paper. It was one of those Recommended For You things 😠

I've hidden their page now, but I'm certain that other pages will be doing the same clickbait headlines. It can be really hard to avoid spoilers now.

JewelleryCat · 31/12/2024 08:57

If it’s the same one, I saw it in the DM too so avoid that too

Ooooh, why do they do this?! Hmm

This is what I liked so much about the finale of Gavin and Stacey - whether you watch it or not, whether you like it or not, the plot of the last show was kept a massive secret! NO-ONE knew what was going to happen until it was broadcast on Christmas day. Not even the families of the cast members.

Every cast member kept the plotline close to their chest, and even the lass who played Sonia was put into a different hotel - in a different town to the rest of them, (and her scenes filmed there,) so no-one would put two and two together.

Why can this not be done with the soaps? Why do these 'spoilers' keep getting out? Who keeps telling the press and media the bloody storylines? I knew Joel was going to die MONTHS before he actually did. (And I have stumbled upon many other big plotlines some months before they are aired too.)

Sooooo annoying! 😡
