Yep hope Lauren gets a celeb next year she’s brilliant …

I suspect Lauren was only benched this year to be a back up for poor Amy. It was always going to be physically tough for Amy and it would have been remiss of producers not to have a plan B.

Samcro · 01/12/2024 09:17

i was disappointed by tash's dance. sarah was barely on the floor.

Runningupthecurtains · 01/12/2024 09:31

I have to say the prospect of sparkly Leyton in a 'joyous' Titanic musical of Celine Dion 'bangers' leaves me feeling a little nauseous. I'm getting strong The Producers vibes.

Not all musicals are equal, some are fabulous others are dire but to dismiss an entire genre because it happens to be popular (sorry appeals to the masses) is snobbery in the extreme. To write off the golden age of Hollywood song and dance numbers and top quality excellently written stage shows just because someone has cobbled together the hits of a has been boy band to produce a jukebox musical is not superior it's snobby.
I for one am thrilled that Miss Saigon will be back on stage next year.

WillowTit · 01/12/2024 09:33

Lauren did well with Krishnan Guru-Murthy last year

severyyhv · 01/12/2024 09:42

Montel will almost certainly be in the dance off, it's a shame she's not more popular she's good and seems lovely.

It will be Pete or Tasha i suspect with her. If it's Pete he will go and if it's Tasha, Montel will go.

Personally I think Tasha should win she's fantastic and after her JB. Chris is amazing but not the winner

She did, and he spoke highly of her, comparing his experience to that of Amanda Abbington.

Krishnan was one of the highlights of last year for me, and much of what made him so great was how much he was enjoying himself, which was largely down to Lauren.

I can see the same joy in JB now! And he has the technical skills too.

Yes, I agree! They were a great couple.

Lentilweaver · 01/12/2024 10:11

I think JB would be a deserving winner as he's good at both Latin and ballroom, but I know he won't as he doesn't have a journey.

I agree with you, although I do think he's had a "journey", considering how much he's improved.

Samcro · 01/12/2024 10:21

isn't JB a bit of a ringer though?

disclaimer I know nothing about JLS

I only vote for ringers! The 'journey" ones like Chris and Hamza aren't good enough, in my opinion. This is why none of my faves ever win.😂

Inkanta · 01/12/2024 10:27

I loved Petes dance. It was the only dance that had emotion and chemistry. That's what I like to see on Strictly and the odd technical mistake isn't important I hope he stays.

He's definitely ringer-adjacent, he did a lot of dancing in JLS but his prior education was music-focussed rather than all round musical-theatre Italia Conti style.

How would you feel if Brendan Cole or Kev from Grimsby were announced as contestants next year? They would be brilliant dancers but surely not the point of the show.

A wee bit..not actually trained and employed as a professional dancer like Tasha, though. Definitely a musical performer, some dancing - ish involved.

I am afraid I wouldn't care. Better than watching Pete stumble around the floor in PVC trousers.Though I havent voted for Tasha so far.

They won't choose someone like that though.

Leyton really wasn't far off, neither is Tasha.
To me it's programme about learning to dance - those that have already got extensive training/experience aren't learning. If I didn't want to watch learners I would swerve strictly and watch a dance performance.

Lentilweaver · 01/12/2024 10:50

I am glad Leyton was there last year as otherwise the general quality would have been terrible.

If a person is in the show, I think I can vote for them! No rule that says we have to vote for the journeymen or women.😊Though last year I voted for Krishnan too.

Lentilweaver · 01/12/2024 10:51

Sorry, it's Layton.

severyyhv · 01/12/2024 10:56

Tashas not a trained ballroom dancer though is she? I did ballet from the age of 3- 19 but it doesn't mean I have a clue how to cha cha.

Layton as theatre performer was pushing it.

Runningupthecurtains · 01/12/2024 11:00

Lentilweaver · 01/12/2024 10:51

Sorry, it's Layton.

My bloody auto correct defaults to an E (I have a friend spelt that way so the AI has obviously picked up that I normally mean Ley rather than Lay.
Of course anyone can vote for whoever they want and we all have our own line where experienced tips over into inappropriate but for me the point is to see people learn to dance and if they can already dance to a high standard to me it isn't in the spirit of the show and the record of ringers across the years suggests it's not just me that feels that way.

Lentilweaver · 01/12/2024 11:09

@Runningupthecurtains it's definitely not just you who feels that way. The majority of people feel as you do and want to see someone learn.

Ringers never win. I am still seething over Danny Mac losing to Ore.

WinterBones · 01/12/2024 11:20

The thing with this 'ringer' issue is the rules have always been the same, they're not allowed to have any ballroom dancing background/training.

Throughout the whole time its been on (and i've been watching it from the first season) there have been celebs on there that went to theatre school, did ballet, tap, some commercial, or theatre dance... i just feel that of late, people have got more and more pissy about it, and there is no need.

Debbie McGee spoke about the fact that her background in ballet gave her flexibility and the understanding of dedication to learning dances, but the discipline of Ballroom/Latin was completely alien.
